If you are struggling with your weight and feel like it’s a helpless situation, you're not alone. However, all you need is a little motivation and a few healthy habits to transform into the best and healthiest version of yourself, according to Jason Henriques, an instructor at Row House Monroe who lost a whopping 160 pounds. In a recent interview with Body Network, the father-of-three tells his story and reveals a few of the simple but effective habits that helped him lose over half his body weight without getting weight loss surgery.

1. Jason’s Weight Struggle Started as a Child

Weight,Scale,scales,loss,diet,health,feetShutterstock

According to Jason, his weight became an issue at the age of six when he had to start shopping in the “husky” section, and he struggled with it for many years. “I kind of battled with my weight my entire life. There were times where I was up, where I was down, there was always kind of that yo-yo effect,” he says. He also suffered health issues as a result, including herniated discs in my back.

2. The Breaking Point at 360 Pounds-Plus

The pinnacle moment of his life was after he first became a dad. His son was around 3 at the time that Jason was at his heaviest weight of all time. “My scale stopped at 360, so I know I was over 360 pounds and I had a 56-inch waist,” he confesses, adding that he still has a pair of those pants “to always remind me of where I was.” He adds that “had to lie” to himself every day that he was happy, “but knew deep down” that he wasn’t. Jason spent a month in the hospital with stomach issues. “I had gallstones and had to have my gallbladder removed,” he said, attributing it to the poor nutrition choices he made and his lack of physical activity. “One day I'm sitting on the floor in my dining room in our house with my son looks up at me and says, ‘Daddy, when I get big, I want a big tummy like you.’ And right then and there, that broke me. That was a serious wake up call.”

3. Habit 1: He Started Walking

The next day after his son’s comments, “I decided I was going to change everything about my life,” says Jason. “I got up and I started walking. I couldn't do a whole lot. I knew the things that I had to do, but I started with walking and every single day I got up and put him in a stroller. We lived close by the beach, so I would push him down to the beach and we would walk between three and 12 miles a day.” Little by little, the weight started coming off.

4. He Opted Against Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Jason_Henriques7Jason Henriques

Around that time a gastroenterologist friend of his suggested that he undergo a gastric sleeve surgery to help him lose weight. Jason started going through the process, which included six months of counseling. After four months, he was already down 60 pounds on his own. When he walked into the doctor’s office he was informed that if he wanted insurance to cover the procedure, he would need to gain weight. “At that moment I looked them right in their eyes, I shook their hand, I got up and I walked out of the office and never went back,” he reveals. “I was proud of the progress I made, and they were more worried about the insurance company than how they could help me progress with my journey without a surgery.” It was that incident “that put me into hyperdrive,” Jason explains.

5. Habit 2: He Discovered Rowing

Jason_Henriques3Jason Henriques

Jason joined a gym and attempted to get in shape by himself, but “did it in all the wrong ways,” he says. “At first, I wasn't eating properly, I was barely eating, and I was doing lots of cardio.” His wife suggested that he use the free personal training session that came with his membership. He didn’t think he needed it, but signed up anyway. “One of the first things that trainer did was put me on a rowing machine and he said, ‘I want you to row a thousand meters.’ So I did and it was absolutely terrible, but at the same time, absolutely amazing.” Despite his three herniated discs in his back, a torn MCL in his right knee, “zero cartilage left” in his left knee, and “a bad rotator cuff” in his right shoulder,” he “didn't have any of the joint pain” he experienced with jogging, running, or biking. “So I fell in love with rowing right then and there.” He now rows marathons – over 42,000 meters – which he calls a “big deal” because of the endurance and mindset, “a lot more mindset than the physical.”

6. Habit 3: He Learned About Nutrition

Jason_Henriques6Jason Henriques

He also started “diving even further into nutrition” to find out what his body needed to build muscle and grow stronger. In addition to tracking his macros, he pays attention to protein intake, which is crucial, he says. “Protein will help keep me fuller longer, and it helps me maintain the muscle that I have,” he explains. He loves cooking his own food, and prepares nutritious meals the whole family can enjoy, sourcing local meat, eggs, dairy, and vegetables from local farms as much as possible. “I know for me especially, I know if I put a more quality product in my body, I feel better. But if I try to be on a budget and cheap out, I can definitely tell the difference,” he says. He loves making burritos for every meal, using low-carb wraps. For breakfast he will scramble six eggs with a cup of spinach, wrap it up, and sear on both sides for added crunch. They can be eaten immediately with a little salsa, or even frozen so you can meal prep ahead of time. “If I don't have the time to prep, I will just go get a rotisserie chicken from the store and shred it apart and make it into a wrap with some vegetables,” he says. He also makes sure to drink enough water – about a gallon per day.

7. Habit 4: He Changed His Mindset

The fourth and final habit, which is also the most important, according to Jason? Changing your mindset. “We have to be willing to change and we have to have something that we're willing to change for because like I said, that pinnacle moment of my son telling me he wanted a big tummy like me, that changed everything about my mindset. It made me look at everything that I do in a different light.”

8. Jason’s Full Circle Moment

Jason enjoys rowing so much he is now an instructor at Row House Monroe. And, when he is at home, that very same son who once wanted to be “big” like him is now 10, and his workout buddy who will row with him at home. “That part just makes me so happy to see that now I went from him wanting to have a big tummy like me to now wanting to work out and keep up with me,” he remarks. He has since welcomed two more children, including a daughter who declared that she was “proud” of him at the age of four. “You always do what you say you're going to do and you take care of yourself so that you can take care of all of us,” he recalls about what she says. “So it's like my son at three says, ‘I want a big tummy like you,’ and now my daughter at almost the same age four years ago was saying she's proud of me for setting a better example and proud of me for that. And that part right there was probably one of the best moments of my life to hear that.”

💪🔥Body Booster: According to AFPA Fitness, a rowing machine exercises your upper body as well as your lower body. “The rowing stroke when using an indoor rower is composed of 65-75% leg work and 25-35% upper body work,” they say.

Indya Ago Lost 120 Pounds by Learning How to Have a “Balanced” Approach to Food

@indyaagos

Something I tell my clients when they first start coaching with me is that in order for these results to be sustainable we have to create balance. when I first started my weight loss journey, I used to restrict myself so much, I would demonize so many different kinds of foods that diet culture had brainwashed me, and into believing were the reason why I wasn’t able to reach the results I was looking for. Which just led me to cycles of binging, and creating a very unhealthy relationship between nutrition and my body. Through proper education on macronutrients, I was able to heal this relationship. And this is how I help my clients and maintain their goals as well. Education is power. WIEIAD DEETS: 💚 breakfast: protein, pancakes, egg, white scramble, turkey bacon 💚 snack: fruit, salad, and protein smoothie 💚 lunch: birria tacos + veg 💚 dinner: seafood boil Babe, if you’re ready to finally create a lifestyle transformation that’s sustainable while still eating all of the foods that you enjoy, I would love to work with you. She “Started Slow” and Learned “Self-Trust”

@indyaagos

If you wanna lose 80 pounds next year, I’m gonna tell you exactly how to do it! No gatekeeping the secret to success here. The number one thing that you need to get clear on, is the amount of time it’s going to take you to achieve your goal, the amount of effort required for you to get there, and, of course, why it’s so important to you. Setting a realistic expectation for yourself, while also simultaneously connecting with your why is the first step to create the foundation. You need to be successful through 2024. When you understand that this journey is going to take time, it’s going to require sacrifice, it’s going to require you stepping so far out of your comfort zone, that you may be paralyzed by fear at times. But being okay with the discomfort. Surrendering to knowing that in those moments of uncertainty, in those moments of insecurity, and discomfort, are facilitating growth. Connecting with knowing that, allowing yourself to grow, is what is going to help you reach your goals. And not only reach your goals, sustain those achievements. Baby, 2024 can be your year, and the first thing that you need to do, is get your mindset right. Know why you’re on this journey, know what you need to do to get from point A to point B, and set yourself up for success. Start building the mindset, habits, and routines into your daily life now in order to be successful 2024. and if you’re ready to take the next step, you’re ready to invest in yourself. I’m now accepting applications for January. The link is in my bio let’s get to work!🤘🏽 #weightlosstransformation #weightlosstips #weightlossjourney #weightlossgoals #weightlosscoach #weightlosshelp #weightlosschallenge #fatlosstips #fatlossjourney #nutritiontips #mindsetcoach #newyearsresolution #newyearnewme #nutritioncoach #fitnesscoach

In another video, Indya reveals another tactic that helped her lose so much weight. “You got to start slow,” she says. “If you approach this from an all or nothing mentality, you are only setting yourself up for failure. A big part of this journey is regaining self-trust. You are so used to letting yourself down. The way that you build trust with yourself again is by following through with the promises that you've made to yourself.”

And Took a Deep Dive Into Her Failed Attempts at Weight Loss

Another thing she did is “going to require you to dig deep,” she says. “We need to figure out what your main excuses or your repeated point of failure chances are. You've been stuck in the same exact cycle, repeating the same narratives as to why you haven't been able to be successful in the past. If your story is that you never have any time, then we need to figure out why you're not prioritizing making time. People make time for what's important to them. If the story is that you are overwhelmed and you have no idea where to start, then it is time to reach out for help so that you have a plan of action as well as guidance.”

Raven Norwood Lost 165 Pounds By Cutting Processed Foods From Her Diet

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven1rowwithraven/Instagram

Raven Norwood, 28, of Huntington Beach, California, started her weight loss journey at 212 pounds and has managed to drop down to 155 pounds, losing 165 pounds in two years. In an interview with Body Network, she explains that she used to eat food containing several dyes, fast food, and packaged food with GMOs, too much MSG, and preservatives. While she didn’t eliminate “any specific food groups because balance is the key to longevity,” she did cut the above from her diet and started cooking her own meals “as much as possible.” Creating healthy relationships with all food groups is so important when it comes to keeping the weight off, she stresses. “Balance is key, so, if I want a cookie here and there, I eat the cookie… no biggie!”

She Also Amped Up Her Water Intake

Raven adds that “lots of water” keeps her hydrated and feeling full. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

She Fell in Love with a Boutique Fitness Method

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven4raven.grl/Instagram

Raven also encourages finding a fitness form that you love. She discovered rowing at her local Row House. “I love how boutique and specialized gyms are getting more recognition! When I first found Row House, I had never seen a gym dedicated to rowing,” she says. “And on top of that you get floorwork exercises, group fitness and the wonderful community that comes along with it! I think a lot of people would benefit from boutique gyms.”

She Took Progress Pictures

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven6raven.grl/Instagram

Progress photos were also an important part of Raven’s weight loss journey. “Sometimes your mind will play tricks on you, and make you feel like you haven’t done as much as you have,” she says. If she feels discouraged, she will look at her “Day 1” photo and it will provide instant motivation. “Take photos because your mind will play tricks on you, but those photos won’t,” she says.

Dils Less Lost 50 Pounds by Not Drinking Coffee on an Empty Stomach

Dils Lee (@dilshealth) lost 50 pounds by making a few simple lifestyle habit changes, which not only aided in weight loss, but were a game-changer in her overall health, especially with her inflammation and hormonal imbalance. One of the first changes that she made? “I stopped drinking coffee on an empty stomach and started making my breakfast look like this,” she said. “Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can lead to bloating, nausea, and anxiety, and it can also raise your cortisol levels, which can negatively impact ovulation weight and hormonal imbalances.”

She Also Switched From HIIT to Low Intensity Workouts

You don’t have to do HIIT workouts to lose weight. The second change that she made “was stopping all high intensity training while I was losing weight,” she said. “I found that I harbored a lot of inflammation in my face, arms, body, stomach, and legs everywhere.” Instead, she opted for lower intensity training. “Basically, by switching to lower intensity workouts, I've found that my waist has drastically come in. My stomach is much more flat, and I'm actually building a lot of tone and muscle in my arms and legs,” she says.

And, She Prioritized Sleep

“The fourth change that I made is that I introduced a healthy sleep routine,” Dils reveals. “My routine includes using supplements like magnesium and then not using my phone an hour before bed. Prioritizing sleep will help your body recover after physical activity. It'll also help with hormone regulation, metabolic regulation, stress and emotional wellbeing.” What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

He does “harder” push ups, he says. “It's not enough to just do as many as you can and do them fast. Alexandra Lost 40 Pounds by Eating the Same Meals Every Day

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) personally lost 40 pounds by eating the same meals daily. “For 1-2 months I ate the same meals every single day why? Because I was confused I didn’t know what to eat or where to start so I ate the same thing everyday,” Alexandra confesses in the caption of her video.

She Also Walks 10,000 Steps a Day

In another video she reveals that walking 10,000 steps a day was also key. “I weigh around 150lbs so walking 10k steps burns an extra 300-400 calories a day without spending hours on the stair master,” says Alexandra. “Walking can be done anywhere you don’t have to get fancy gym clothes you can literally walk in your pjs,” she adds. And, it helps regulate hunger. “Walking is not an extremely difficult exercise and it can help regulate your appetite hormones and reduce feelings of hunger,” she says.

David Tuckfield Lost 60 Pounds EMS Workouts

David_Tuckfield7David Tuckfield

David Tuckfield, 61, dropped 60 pounds and reduced his body fat by 23 percent in 16 months by incorporating electro muscle stimulation (EMS) workouts into his routine, which he discovered at BODY20. “I was very skeptical when I first tried the EMS workouts. I was shocked after my demo workout how much I felt a difference,” he told Body Network. “For me, the amazing thing about the EMS workouts to me is that I can actually feel or sense my muscles. That was something that I had never experienced. At first I could feel them only during the workouts, but now when I exert myself I can discern which muscles are engaged. I don’t have huge or impressive muscles, but that I am more in-tune with the muscles I have. It is a good feeling to feel your muscles engage when you do an activity.” Another “great thing” about the workout “is that you really get a full workout (or better) in 20 minutes,” he says.

He Also Set Long-Term Goals

David_Tuckfield5David Tuckfield

He also started looking at weight loss as a long-term goal. “Don’t think short term. Think of it as a very long journey,” he suggests. “You will plateau, and you should just be comfortable with that. If you don’t stress out about the plateaus, you will eventually work through them.” Daily weigh-ins also helped him. “If you’ve gained weight, ask yourself what you did yesterday that would have made you gain weight. Usually the answer is obvious,” he says.

I ate about 1600 to 1800 calories daily, just depending on my activity level for the day. If I did two workouts that day, I would eat closer to 1800. If I had a more sedentary day, I would eat closer to 1500 to 1600.” She also followed a meal plan. “I have a seven day meal plan available at the top of my profile. It just makes it really easy when you're going to a grocery shop, when you're first starting out, when things are structured, it's gonna make it a lot easier to follow and just to stay consistent, not skipping breakfast, especially if we're exercising.”

When I tell people I lost 30 pounds by changing my mindset, they stare back at me as if to say, it can't be that easy. No, it's not that easy. But it really does work.

I am a Mindset and Movement Coach and a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Professional with a B.A. in Psychology, as well as a certified fitness coach in mat pilates and barre. I like to say that I was my first client—when I gained a considerable amount of weight in college, I remember not recognizing my own reflection both physically and mentally. I tried a TON of yoyo dieting and followed an inconsistent routine.

In my senior year of college, my life changed when I was given a one-year membership to a gym. This was the start of my true passion for movement and mental strength. I learned so much about myself that continued to unfold over the years bringing us to the present day where I have married the two to become a mindset and movement coach.

Throughout my fitness career, I have met so many people that were physically fit but lacked that same health in their mindset and mental health. Everything is all connected and they truly work hand in hand in order to cultivate sustainable well-being. Being able to tap into your body's needs, staying consistent, and recognizing when your mind and body needs me more is the act of being your own health advocate and activating the power of being the author of your own story.

And every story needs a good beginning.

I remember the exact day I decided to lose weight. I was in New York City with a friend and there was this huge staircase in the subway station on 5th Avenue and 53rd Street. The escalator was not working so my friend and I had to climb the stairs. I remember how difficult it was, and saying to myself I can do this. Eventually, when I got to the top I also remember saying to myself I will climb these stairs one day without a problem. Fast forward about 2 years. I remember the feeling of accomplishment when I did just that with a yoga mat and backpack on my back.

There are two things that have gotten me through the hardest times in my life: Being able to tap into my internal strength while seeing my physical strength develop is profound. It didn’t stop there—these realizations spilled into other areas of my life creating a full transformation. Read on to learn how I lost weight and how you can, too.

1. How I Lost the Weight

Nadia_Murdock2nadiamurdock/Instagram

After years of yo-yo dieting and deprivation, I struggled to lose the weight I gained freshman year of college. I was given a one-year gym membership by my brother, my senior year in college. I was also introduced to Weight Watchers by my best friend's sister who recently had a baby and was using Weight Watchers to get back into shape. The combination of the two changed my life. I tried every class imaginable until I found a workout routine that worked for me. Through this I was also able to connect with like minded individuals that helped to support me in my weight-loss journey. When it came to nutrition, my curiosity was sparked! I learned the importance of hydration, having a colorful and balanced plate and eating foods that served me and my new active lifestyle. Over time this became a part of me, it became a lifestyle.

2. My Advice for People Who Struggle With Maintaining a Positive Mindset While Working Toward Health and Fitness Goals

Silhouette of happy success positive teamwork hold hands up as business successful, business victory & celebrate achievement. Accomplish people merger & acquisitions concept.Shutterstock

The biggest thing in my coaching that I advise all my clients to do is write down their accomplishments! Often people are focusing on what they haven’t done vs. what you have. Having a working document or journal for you to reflect on regularly will help keep you motivated and remind you of what you are capable of.

3. Common Weight Loss Mistakes to Avoid

leg of fat woman being run or jog on belt of treadmill machineShutterstock

They don’t do things they enjoy! They tend to hop on trends and do what other people are doing which causes them to quit. Another thing that gets in the way is the desire for a quick fix! Sustainable change takes time and consistency. Most importantly they aren’t tapping into their WHY! This is what is going to get you out of bed when you don’t feel like doing it. If you can vividly paint a picture of why you are setting yourself up for success.

4. Conquer Your Fears

fitness, sport, training, aerobics and people concept - close up of people working out with steppers in gym from backShutterstock

I recall when I started taking classes I would always go to the back of the class in fear of doing the moves wrong. I also wore baggy clothes for fear of being judged. As my physical body got stronger so did my mental strength and mindset. I started to care less about what people thought and moved from the back of the class to the front. I was less concerned about what people thought and more concerned about showing up for myself.

💪🔥Body Booster: Write down your accomplishments! Having a journal will help keep you motivated and remind you of what you are capable of.

Brenda Lizard is a weight loss influencer who goes by the TikTok handle @brenda.lizard. In two of the many viral videos discussing her massive and rapid weight loss — she lost 40 pounds in just under four months — she reveals a few simple tricks that helped. And, a few of them might surprise you.

1. Brenda Decided to Change Her Lifestyle After Learning She Had Pre-Diabetes

@brenda.lizard

Replying to @evelynn How i lost weight 🙂 Comment if you need clarification or DM me on insta and I’ll respond to you quicker there #gymtok #greenscreenvideo #greenscreen

Brenda prefaces the video by confessing that she is not a professional. “This is just what I did and what worked for me,” she said. She also revealed that she “decided to change” her lifestyle for health reasons, namely after she got a breast reduction and discovered she had pre-diabetes during the blood work. “So obviously I had to make a change for my own health,” she said.

2. First, She Changed Her Diet

ChickenGrill,grilled,bbq,breast,meat,proteinShutterstock

The “biggest thing” for Brenda was changing her diet, because after getting her breast reduction she couldn’t exercise for two months. “I couldn't lift anything over 15 pounds, so it was all my diet,” she said. Instead of going on a “specific diet like keto or whatever” she went on a calorie deficit, “which basically you're counting your calories.” She calculated how much she needed, inputting her age, weight, and height, and then figured out how many calories she would need to cut to lose one pound a week, which came out to 1,670 calories per day. For breakfast she ate overnight oats or an egg spinach omelet. “I love cottage cheese and cottage cheese is what's gotten me through a lot,” she added. For lunch she would eat tuna salad, chicken wraps, and “just regular chicken salads with a side of something.” She still ate out on occasion. “So if I were to go to Wingstop, I would still mess up some wings, but instead of getting regular fries, I'd get sweet potato fries. If I went to In-N-Out, I would still get a double double, but I'd get it lettuce wrapped,” she revealed. “I never felt miserable throughout this whole entire process just because I would eat what I wanted. And at home, I don't necessarily count my calories If I make my food at home, only if I'm going out to eat, that's when I do start counting my calories,” she added.

3. Second, She Started Doing Cardio

Hikers,Walking,Mountains, outdoors, outside, rural, walking, exerciseShutterstock

Once able to start doing cardio, she started seeing the most weight loss, “and don't think it's extreme cardio,” she said. “I've always been an early bird, so I've always woken up six in the morning to eight in the morning, the latest. And I would go get up, and then I would go on runs, jogs, I take my dog out. We bonded a lot throughout this entire process, and I would go on hikes.” A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure and fewer strokes.

4. Third, She Joined a Gym and Used the StairMaster

StairMaster, steps, stairs, treadmill, gym, machine, exercise,Shutterstock

She also got a gym membership at LA Fitness, “and I just go there to use a StairMaster,” which she says “is a must.” Recently, the "25-7-2" StairMaster workout went viral, with people boasting about the weight loss benefits. It involves jumping on the stair-climbing machine, setting it to level 7, and climbing for 25 minutes. Does it actually work? "Any new stimulus will burn more calories at first, but your body will always adapt to whatever stimulus you're doing," Katie Kollath, ACE CPT and cofounder of Barpath Fitness, previously told our sister website Eat This, Not That! "So, if you want to continue to burn more calories after a couple of months doing this workout trend, you will either need to increase activity elsewhere or do the StairMaster workouts for longer."

5. And Fourth, She Started Lifting Weights

@brenda.lizard

Replying to @Brenda DM me on insta or comment if you need clarification!!! #gymtok #weightloss

Once cleared by the doctor, she started lifting weights. And, for anyone who is starting to lift, she warns against putting too much emphasis on the numbers on the scale, as “muscles are heavier than fat.” To warm up, she would jog to the gym or go on the treadmill for ten minutes. She would also do more cardio – a little over a mile of walking, jogging, and sprinting – post lifting. Then, she would take a quick water break and “hit up” the StairMaster, her “favorite” workout. “I go on it for 15 minutes. I'd range from level four to six, sometimes seven,” she said. While first “scared” of the dumbbell area, she says she learned how to lift by watching tutorials on her phone or getting help from other people at the gym. “No shame at all. I didn't know what I was doing at first, and there's times that I still don't know what I'm doing, but I just go and I say YOLO, and I watch my little TikTok tutorials on how to do my form and stuff,” she concluded.

💪🔥Body Booster: Incorporating a StairMaster workout into your routine can help you lose weight. Just make sure to continue increasing intensity as time goes on.

Do you want to lose 44 pounds in three months? It may be as simple as incorporating some healthy habits into your lifestyle. Talia Fawaz is a social media influencer who boasts over 147,000 followers on Instagram, sharing about everything from her lifestyle to how she stays in shape. She recently posted a viral video about her weight loss, revealing how she lost an average of nearly 15 pounds per month. Here are ten changes she made to her lifestyle to lose weight.

I Focused on Changing My Diet

“First things first is food,” Talia says in the video. “I feel like food is actually super obvious.” She explains that if you don’t eat well and expect to lose weight, “it's not gonna happen.” She adds that she started losing weight by eating healthier.

It’s also “really important to know what you're eating, so I would definitely recommend eating at home and cutting out the outside food,” she says. “I wouldn't say cut it out completely, eat like once in a week, something you like from out, but most importantly is like eating at home because I feel like you really know what's in your food and I feel like, it's like a less likely chance that there are some ingredients there that you don't know that could be like stopping you from your weight loss goals.”

I Implemented Volume Eating

Another one of her tricks? “I did a lot of volume eating,” says Talia. “I ate a lot of broccoli,” she continued. “I had a lot of salads, I had a lot of spinach, I had a lot of lettuce, cauliflower, and so many vegetables that will actually keep me full for a long time.”

I Amped Up My Protein Intake

She also amped up protein, consuming it “with each and every dish of mine,” she says. “Sea bass fish, broccoli, and a salad would be like my lunch. Like that was a truly a daily thing, and I actually enjoyed it so much.” She recommends pairing a protein with “just volume, volume fruits if that makes sense.”

I Practiced Self-Discipline

“Commitment and self-discipline” are also key, she says. “A lot of people ask me, ‘How are you motivated?’” she says. “Like it's literally a war in your head.” But instead of saying that you will start tomorrow, you have to be unwilling to give up.

I Maintained a Positive Mindset

You also need a “positive mindset” towards weight loss. This might involve not listening to your head, or if you do, and decide you want McDonald’s, get back on track the next day without beating yourself up.

I Had a Balanced Approach

It’s also important to have “a balance,” says Talia. ”So it would be more like a lifestyle thing rather than a diet for a short period of time.” You can't have the mindset where you diet for a month and then eat whatever you want. “You have to make it like a lifestyle change.”

I Exercised

Attractive sports people are working out with dumbbells in gymShutterstock

She also started working out. “I did not have access to a gym like when I was trying to lose weight. So I would literally jog around my compound, jog around my area for about an hour or 30 minutes, and it was actually really fun. It wasn't like sprinting or jogging; it was usually like light jogging,” she revealed. She recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day to “slowly progress towards your goals.”

I Made It a Lifestyle Change

She emphasizes the importance of making it “more of a lifestyle change” and not being overly restrictive. “Just don't, don't restrict yourself and make it more of a lifestyle thing than a temporary thing because that's the only way it's gonna work.”

Finally, “Make this a fun journey,” she says. “You know, I feel like cooking is so therapeutic, so make it fun. If you want a cake, make it a healthy cake. If you want pizza, make it healthy pizza. All the recipes are all online.”

💪🔥Body Booster: Eat plenty of low-calorie, high-volume foods like broccoli, salads, spinach, lettuce, and cauliflower to feel full for longer. These vegetables are great for weight loss as they keep you satisfied without adding many calories to your diet.

Are you trying to lose weight, doing everything you think you should be, but the number on the scale won’t budge? According to an expert, it’s possible that you are doing the wrong things and don’t even know it. Laura Denys is a fitness and nutrition coach with over 1.3 million Instagram followers. In a new social media post, she discusses her weight loss journey and admits that she couldn’t lose weight until she changed her approach to diet and fitness. Here are the 5 things she stopped doing to lose 44 pounds.

Stop Following Diets

The cabbage soup diet, keto, cleanses or other trendy diets may seem like a quick fix for weight loss. However, if you are seriously restricting yourself and going on crash diets to lose weight, you could be getting in your own way, according to Laura. “Stop following diets,” she says. “Go to get out of that ‘all or nothing’ mindset.”

Stop Skipping Meals

It can be tempting to miss a meal to cut calories from your day, but Laura doesn’t recommend it because oftentimes, it will lead to you eating more later in the day. “Stop skipping meals, used to think going all day without eating was gonna help me get results but it only caused me to binge eat at midnight,” she says.

Stop Overdoing It with Exercise

Also, don’t go too hard with exercise. “Stop exhausting yourself and learn to rest. I used to do hours on the stair master now I only walk/run for my cardio,” she says.

Stop Restricting Yourself

And, you don’t have to go to extremes with your diet. “Stop restricting yourself and had to learn portion control,” she says. You can even enjoy sweet treats. “I learned to enjoy dessert in moderation,” she says.

Stop Setting Weight Loss Goals

And her final tip might come as a surprise. “Stop having goals,” she says. “Think that you could lose 2-5lbs a week consistently and would put so much pressure on myself. But as a female your weight changes daily so some weeks l’d lose 2lbs and than gain a lb the next week.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you over 40 and struggling to lose weight? Julie Clouse is a social media influencer and fitness and macros expert who tries to “inspire others to be the best version of themselves.” In a new social media post she reveals a few of the habits all the fittest women she knows share. “Not to be dramatic but…There is no secret. The fittest women I know in their 40s have these 6 things in common. They ALL DO THIS!!!” she writes.

Strength Training

The first habit they share? “They prioritize strength training,” she says. “Fittest women in their 40s consistently lift heavy weights, focusing on progressive overload to build muscle and maintain strength.”

Healthy Diet

The next thing they have in common is a healthy diet. “They eat for their goals,” she explains. “They track their macros, prioritize protein (about 1g per pound of body weight), and fuel their bodies with balanced nutrition instead of following fad diets.”

Daily Activity

Another thing they do? “They stay active daily,” she says. “They prioritize NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) by walking, staying active, and avoiding a sedentary lifestyle, aiming for at least 8-10k steps a day.”

Stress Management

They also understand the importance of mental health and self-care. “They manage stress and recovery,” she writes. “They take rest days, prioritize sleep, and understand that recovery is just as important as workouts. Many practice mindfulness or stress management techniques.”

Patience and Discipline

The fifth habit they share? “They embrace patience and discipline,” she says. “They know results take time and stay disciplined even when progress feels slow.”

Consistency

And what is the most significant piece that ties this all together? “They are CONSISTENT,” she says. “No matter how busy life gets, they show up for themselves day after day. They don’t rely on motivation; they rely on habits they’ve built over time.”

Bonus Tips: Just Start

She also offers some bonus tips. “Just start,” she suggests. “Instead of getting overwhelmed about 6 things you feel like you need to change. Pick 1 start there.”

Don’t Focus on Perfection

“You do NOT have to be perfect. If you’ve been here long enough, I share how to incorporate a sustainable life style with your busy lives and families,” she adds.

Stay the Trail

Next, just keep going. “Yes, it will be hard at first. Yes, there will be days you’re wondering if you’re making progress. Stay the trail. This is for the long term. This is for longevity with your kids and spouses. This is for YOU!” she says.

Take One Hour for Yourself

She also stresses the importance of taking care of yourself and not feeling guilty for it. “Self care is not selfish. You deserve 1 hour to yourself,” she says.

Focus on Losing One Pound a Week

Finally, aim for one pound a week and celebrate it. “Losing 1lb a week is a BIG DEAL!! Imagine if you gained a lb a week. Give yourself grace. The slow way is the fast way for the long term,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.
