Burning belly fat can seem overwhelming as so many factors impact fat accumulation around the waistline. TikTok influencer @Tendieex developed her own system of beating the stomach bulge, and aside from the following exercises which she detailed in her post, she figured out the golden rule of not just fat loss in the belly, but from the whole body. So how did this food and fitness enthusiast get rid of her very stubborn belly fat? Read on to find out.

Pilates Roll-Ups

tendieex1tendieex/TikTok

Tendieex does half Pilates roll-ups using a dumbbell to target her belly fat, and says she maintains a calorie deficit with plenty of protein. “Although strength training can tone your core and tighten stomach muscles, you’ll need a calorie deficit for the body to burn excess fat from the midsection,” says New Jersey-based dietitian Erin Palinski-Wade, RD, CDCES, author of Belly Fat Diet For Dummies. “However, just cutting calories alone is not the answer. You’ll want to reduce calories while keeping protein to 20-30% of your daily calorie intake to protect against muscle loss which can slow metabolism. In addition, protein can help to balance blood sugar and appetite to prevent cravings.”

Stability Ball Hand-To-Foot

Tendieex then does a stability ball hand-to-foot exchange to really work her core muscles. While these exercises are a great way to strengthen the core, other factors come into play when it comes to blasting belly fat. “In addition to diet, improving sleep and stress are also important in order to be able to reduce belly fat,” Palinski-Wade says. “Poor sleep can disrupt appetite-regulating hormones and lead to increased food intake, which may contribute to weight gain, including abdominal fat. Focus on creating healthy sleep habits and aiming for 7.5-9 hours of quality sleep each night.”

Stability Ball Planks

tendieex2tendieex/TikTok

Tendieex also does stability ball planks using an exercise ball, which is another excellent core-strength activity. “The best exercises for your core target several groups of muscles at a time, such as the plank, which builds muscles in the abdomen, back, and side. Although traditional planks are done on the floor, you can do an easier version using a desk or table,” say the experts at Harvard Health.

Stress-Busting Exercises

@tendieex

I’m telling you… when I next go on my calorie deficit the abs will be poppinnn. Training your core strength is key your lifts. Learning how to control your core and engage it properly means you will probably never have to do another ab workout becus they are properly engaged. #flatstomatch #abworkout #fupa #weightloss #fatloss #bellyfat

Tendieex’s exercises not only work her body, but help manage stress levels. “Chronic stress can lead to overeating and weight gain, particularly in the abdominal area,” Palinski-Wade says. “Effective stress management techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises can help reduce stress-related belly fat accumulation.”

The bottom line? What Tendieex is doing will certainly help burn not only belly fat, but fat all over her body. “Regular physical activity, including both aerobic and strength training exercises, is vital for reducing belly fat and promoting overall weight loss,” Palinski-Wade says. “Exercise helps burn calories and improve metabolic health, contributing to a healthier body composition. Include both moderate aerobic exercise daily along with strength training at least 2x per week to build muscles and metabolism.”

TikTok influencer Andrew Holmes (andrewholmes79) is on a mission to educate people about how to FINALLY lose that pesky belly fat. Have you tried to reduce the belly bulge? Are you doing crunches and situps from dawn til dusk with no change in the stomach area? Are you beyond frustrated that no matter what, the belly fat won’t budge? You might be overcomplicating things. Here’s what Holmes has to say on the matter, plus real, expert-backed advice on how to get the abs of your dreams.

Sit Ups and Crunches All Day

@andrewholmes79

How to lose stubborn belly fat once and for all.

Holmes says to please stop doing endless crunches and situps if the only reason you are doing them is to get rid of belly fat. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way. “To burn belly fat, you need 45 to 60 minutes of high-intensity cardiovascular activity (running, playing soccer or basketball, jumping rope, power-walking, etc.) on most days of the week,” medical weight management expert Karen Cooper, DO, tells the Cleveland Clinic. “You also need to reduce your intake of processed foods, fast foods and alcohol.”

Burning Belly Fat Specifically?

Holmes explains that once you start burning fat all over, eventually the fat on your stomach will burn off too. And it’s not just about hitting the gym, or eating well—try not to spend too much of the day sitting. “Staying physically active throughout the day as well as scheduling time for structured exercise may be even more important than diet,” say the experts at Harvard Health.

Pesky Genetics

Holmes makes the point that people are shaped differently—so your best friend, who might be doing the same diet and exercise, might lose fat from a different part of their body than you. That’s normal! "We know that women and men tend to store fat differently -- women have the ability to more easily store fat on the hips and legs, while men tend to accumulate fat around the abdomen to a higher extent," Mathias Rask-Andersen, Ph.D., tells Science Daily. "This has been attributed to the effects of sex hormones such as estrogen. But the molecular mechanisms that control this phenomenon are fairly unknown."

Yes, Abs Are Made In the Kitchen

Holmes makes the crucial point that if you don’t have control of your food, belly fat is going nowhere. One good way of simplifying your diet is by food prepping. “Food prepping, or preparing meals in advance, is a key strategy for maintaining a healthy diet, especially for those with busy lifestyles,” says celebrity trainer Kollins Ezekh. “It ensures that you have healthy meals ready, which can prevent the temptation to opt for less nutritious, convenient options. Food prepping can help you stick to your nutritional goals, save time during the week, and can also be cost-effective as it reduces the likelihood of purchasing last-minute meals out. Additionally, it allows for better portion control, which is crucial for weight management or achieving specific fitness goals.”

Slow and Steady Wins the Abs

,Couple,fit,abs,muscle,beach,ocean,sea, fitnessShutterstock

As with all health and fitness goals, slow, steady work is key to a successful outcome. That means there are no shortcuts. “Be patient,” Holmes advises. Focus on good nutrition, stress management, don’t smoke, stay active, and be aware of how many calories you are taking in. Your abs won’t appear overnight but they’re under there, just waiting to make their debut.

What is the secret to getting rid of belly fat and flattening your abs? While there are a few components to achieving a perfectly chiseled and flat midsection, specific exercises can help get you there. In a viral video shared by the TikTok account @Itz_About_health that has racked up a whopping 5 million views, one woman claims that doing three sets of four ab exercises helped her achieve the abs of her dreams. “Exercises I did to go from this to this,” she says in the brief clip. She also demonstrates each of the moves, which you can easily do in the comfort of your own home.

Plank Dips

Her first move? 3 sets of 10 plank dips, which involves getting into plank position and dipping her waist from left to right. Kendra Gamble, HIT Fitness Training, Huntingdon Valley, PA, NPTI Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritional Consultant tells The Body Network that planks are a great exercise. However, if you are a beginner, you might want to ease into the move.

Russian Twists

Next she does 3 sets of 15 Russian Twists. “Weight is optional,” she says. Russian Twists are a great exercise for your core, but especially the obliques.

Her third exercise is 3 sets of 15 bicycle crunches. In crunch position, crunch with your left elbow, bringing up your right knee at the same time. Then crunch with your right elbow into your left knee. She repeats on the other side.

Knife Jacks

Her last exercise is 3 sets of 10 leg alternating knife jacks. Keeping her back on the ground, she lifts her left leg slightly up, meeting her right hand with a straight arm to the left leg. She repeats on the other side.

Andrea Ausmus, CPT, FNS, & CES, Senior Director of Fitness at Gold’s Gym SoCal reminds that you can’t out-exercise a bad diet and that “abs are made in the kitchen.” In order to get flat abs you need to exercise but also “be diligent with your nutrition,” she says. “You can not separate your fitness from your nutrition, especially when it comes to sculpting your abs.”

💪🔥Body Booster: Ab work will help build up your abdominal muscles. But if you really want flat abs you will have to adjust your diet accordingly.

DeAsia Green (@deasiagreenn) is a weight loss warrior and influencer who has amassed a TikTok following of over half a million people. She regularly shares videos revealing all of her tips and tricks on losing weight and burning fat. In one viral video she opens up about a few of the habits that enabled her to get a flat tummy. “4 things I did to lose stomach fat,” she writes in the clip.

Cardio

@deasiagreenn

it’s all about consistency 🤌🏽 @bloomnu

Exercise is the first habit that helped DeAsia blast belly fat. She specifies that “Cardio, especially sprint intervals,” were helpful. According to research, sprint intervals burn 40 percent more fat than HIIT workouts in 60 percent less time. Similar to HIIT, it involves running at a high speed for a period of time, followed by a brief rest, and then another sprint, and so on.

She Made Major Changes to Her Diet

DeAsia also made some major changes to her diet. “Stopped eating out every day and started eating whole foods,” she writes in the clip. She eliminated junk food, processed food, and sugar. Studies have found that the more meals you eat at restaurants, the higher your risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and early death. And, one study published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity found meal planning was associated with a healthier diet and less obesity.

Gym Workouts

Weight and strength training were also impactful in her fat loss. “Creating a gym routine structured around my goals and sticking to it,” she writes. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills.

Gut Health

She also prioritized digestion. “Started working to improve my overall gut health,” she concluded. There is actual research backing up that certain types of gut bacteria make it harder to lose weight.

One Final Tip? Sleep

The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, adds one final tip. “I would also add getting 7 to 9 hours of quality sleep,” she suggests. “When you’re sleep deprived your hunger can be more intense and you turn to comfort food when you’re tired.”

Bodyweight exercises are a great way to help reduce belly fat however—just to keep things real—what you eat also plays a huge roll so be mindful of your food choices as well! One of my favorite things about body weight exercises is the convenience—you can literally do them anywhere, at home, in the park, or even at the gym. You now have zero excuses to not get a workout in as they require no equipment.

Bodyweight Exercises Increase Heart Rate, and Help Burn Calories

Side note: bodyweight exercises can help engage multiple muscle groups, which helps not only with fat loss but also with building strength and stamina. When doing bodyweight exercises, you’re not just working your core; you're also getting your heart rate up, which is a key factor when wanting to burn calories.

Opt for High-Intensity Movements to Melt Fat

There are so many different styles of body weight exercises. But if you are looking especially to help melt belly fat, high-intensity movements can lead to a greater calorie burn even after your workout is done.

There Are Other Benefits of Them Aside From Blast Belly Fat

Before we get into these workout examples, I just want to remind you not to underestimate the benefits of these simple bodyweight exercises. First off, they really help with muscle coordination—these exercises require you to stay balanced and engage multiple muscle groups at once. This not only builds strength but also improves your neuromuscular control, which can boost your overall athletic performance. It's a win-win!

They Are Also Sustainable

And don’t forget about sustainability— Since bodyweight exercises don’t need any gym memberships or equipment, you can easily fit them into your lifestyle and hopefully sustain it as your new normal. This is super important for maintaining your fitness routine and keeping off any extra weight. Here are my top bodyweight exercises for losing belly fat.

Plank

  • How to Do It: Start in a push-up position but rest on your forearms instead, with elbows under your shoulders (no seriously though, form in everything). Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels, and engage your core to keep your hips level.
  • Muscles Worked: This one mainly targets your core—think abs and obliques—but it also works your shoulders, back, and glutes. You’re welcome.
  • Tip: Try to hold for 30 seconds to a minute. If you're just starting, you can drop to your knees for an easier version. Focus on keeping that straight line! Close your eyes if it helps.

Mountain Climbers

  • How to Do It: Start in a plank position. Drive your right knee toward your chest, then quickly switch to bring your left knee forward. Keep alternating at a steady pace. If you want to target more waistline, try driving your knee towards your opposite elbow (alternating the twisted mountain climbers)
  • Muscles Worked: This move works your core and hip flexors, gives your shoulders a workout, and gives you a great cardio boost.
  • Tip: Start with 30 seconds of nonstop movement, and keep your core tight to avoid letting your hips rise too high.

Squats and Squat Jumps

  • How to Do It: Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lower your body by bending your knees and pushing your hips back like you're sitting in a chair. Keep your chest lifted and back straight, then return to standing. When you feel confident, add an explosive jump to this move.
  • Muscles Worked: Squats mainly hit your quads, hamstrings, and glutes while also engaging your core for stability.
  • Tip: Go for 10-15 repetitions. Make sure your knees don’t go past your toes, and keep your weight in your heels!

RELATED: I'm a Personal Trainer and These 5 Moves Banished My Clients' Bat Wings in Weeks

Half Burpees

  • How to Do It: Start standing tall. Drop into a squat, place your hands on the ground, and kick your feet back into a plank position, then jump your feet back to the squat and explosively jump up. I know these are not everyone's favorite however, they work!
  • Muscles Worked: This full-body move targets your chest, arms, legs, and core, and it really gets your heart rate up.
  • Tip: Begin with 5-10 reps. Focus on your form—speed will come with practice!

Bicycle Crunches

  • How to Do It: Lie on your back with your hands behind your head and lift your legs to a tabletop position. Bring your right elbow to your left knee while extending your right leg. Switch sides in a pedaling motion. Doing this right is super important! Don’t just mindlessly whale your legs around. Think about what you're doing and execute accordingly.
  • Muscles Worked: This one really engages your abs and obliques, making it great for targeting that belly area.
  • Tip: Aim for 15-20 reps on each side, focusing on controlled movements to really feel the burn.

"These injections include medicines like semaglutide, otherwise known as Ozempic, and tirzepatide (Mounjaro)," Dr. McCann explains in her video. While semaglutide has FDA approval for weight loss in certain individuals, Mounjaro is currently approved only for type 2 diabetes—though many patients experience significant weight reduction with both.

According to Dr. McCann, these medications work through several mechanisms: "They inhibit glucagon release which reduces hunger, decrease glucose production from the liver, delay gastric emptying, and reduce appetite." These combined effects lead to what can be substantial weight loss, particularly beneficial for people with limited mobility who struggle with exercise-based approaches.

Who Should Consider These Treatments?

"These medicines are not for everybody," cautions Dr. McCann. There are important contraindications to consider, including "a personal or family history of thyroid cancer or other endocrine problems or cancers." She emphasizes the importance of discussing your complete medical history with your physician before starting treatment.

Side effects can also occur. "They can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps," notes Dr. McCann. While these symptoms typically subside after a few weeks of treatment, she acknowledges they can sometimes persist longer.

Making the Most of Your Treatment

Dr. McCann views these medications as a starting point rather than a complete solution. "What I like to tell my patients is to use these medicines to really start your lifestyle change," she says. The initial weight loss provides momentum, but maintaining results requires building healthy habits during treatment.

With that foundation in mind, here are Dr. McCann's top three tips for maximizing your results while on weight loss injections:

Tip 1: Eliminate All Sodas and Sugary Drinks

The single most important dietary change? "Stop all sodas," Dr. McCann states emphatically. This includes not just carbonated soft drinks but all sugary beverages like slushes and sweetened coffee drinks.

The impact is staggering: "Drinking one can of soda can make you gain 15 pounds over one year," Dr. McCann explains. "It's virtually impossible to lose weight and keep it off if you drink soda, especially more than one can daily."

This doesn't mean giving up caffeine altogether. Dr. McCann suggests alternatives: "Coffee is a great alternative, especially either black coffee or mixed with a little bit of stevia. A sugar-free skinny latte is also a great option."

Tip 2: Prioritize Protein with Every Meal

When appetite suppression kicks in, making your limited calories count becomes crucial. "Make sure that when you feel like eating, you get your protein, specifically lean protein," advises Dr. McCann.

There's science behind this recommendation. "Protein is what builds your muscle, and your muscle is what burns calories," she explains. "If you don't take in enough protein, you will lose muscle and won't be able to burn as many calories."

The metabolic benefits are significant: "Protein increases your metabolism by increasing your muscle, and that lets you burn more calories," says Dr. McCann. This creates a virtuous cycle that enhances the medication's effectiveness.

Tip 3: Incorporate Consistent Exercise

Exercise remains essential, even with powerful medications. "Exercise is very important for weight loss, for keeping the weight off, for your cardiovascular health," Dr. McCann emphasizes. She adds that it "actually is a natural remedy for anxiety because it releases cortisol."

For beginners, Dr. McCann recommends starting small: "If you're just starting out, 20 minutes four times a week through high intensity training, something like HIIT classes, will be just fine." As fitness improves, both duration and intensity can gradually increase.

Those with physical limitations shouldn't despair. "Exercise is still important, but you may need to talk to a personal trainer to see what exercises you specifically can do to help maintain your muscles," suggests Dr. McCann.

The Long-Term Perspective

These medications offer a valuable opportunity to reset your relationship with food and activity. "Make sure to use this weight loss boost to start your healthy living," Dr. McCann advises, "so that you can lose even more weight and be able to keep it off after you stop the injections."The habits you develop during treatment will determine your long-term success. By eliminating sugary drinks, prioritizing protein, and incorporating regular exercise now, you're building the foundation for sustainable results that last well beyond your final injection. Are you strength training to lose weight? If so, there are a few tweaks you can make to your routine to accelerate the weight loss process. Mahtab Ekay is a fat loss coach and social media influencer who lost over 20 pounds and helps others do the same. In a new post she shares a few of her hacks. “If you are lifting weights and your goal is to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, here are my 7 best tips to make it happen,” she writes.

Sets: Quality > Quantity

“If you have 3 sets planned for an exercise, those should be 3 working sets. This means they should be close to failure—where you can barely complete the last rep. The real growth happens in the 2-3 reps after you feel like you’re done,” she says.

Reps: Go Heavy

When it comes to reps, go heavy. “The myth that high reps with lower weight are better for fat loss needs to go. Instead, aim for 8-12 reps with heavier weights. This rep range is ideal for hypertrophy (muscle growth) while also building strength,” she claims.

Cardio: Time it Right

How you time your cardio makes a difference. “If you want to incorporate cardio, do it after your lifting session or on rest days. Doing cardio before lifting can sap your strength and take away from your ability to give 100% in your strength training,” she says.

Rest Time: Don’t Rush It

Don’t rush your rest time. “You don’t need to keep your heart rate up during your entire workout. In fact, the opposite is true! Take 1.5-2 minutes to fully recover and lift heavier during your working sets. Quality over speed!” she says.

Nutrition: Eat Near Maintenance

As for nutrition, eat near maintenance. “To build muscle and lose fat, I recommend eating close to maintenance calories or a slight deficit—not more than a 500-calorie deficit per day. Don’t go into a crazy deficit—it’ll make it harder to maintain your strength and muscle while losing fat,” she says.

Progressive Overload

“Even if you’re in a slight deficit, you should still aim to get stronger. Try to progressively overload your lifts by adding weight or increasing reps over time. Some lifts like the bench press might be harder to progress, but there are ways around it!” she says.

Start with Compound Movements

Finally, start with compound movements. “Always begin your workout with compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench presses) because they recruit more muscle groups, and since your energy is highest at the start, you can lift heavier and perform better,” she concludes.
