This Mom Went From a Size 10 to a 4 in 90 Days After Discovering These 5 Weight Loss Truths
Are you trying to lose weight but can't seem to have any success? It could be that you are holding onto falsehoods. Gillian Ferguson is an influencer and founder of The Macro Method who went from a size 10 to a 4 and regularly shares her tips and tricks so you can do the same. "Forever sharing my biggest takeaways from losing over 40 pounds and gaining as a busy mom of 2 in my 40s," she writes in the Instagram post, revealing her five weight loss truths, "and some will sting," she admits.
It Takes Time
The first weight loss truth? It takes time. "Stop falling for quick fixes," she instructs in her post. "I know you want results like… yesterday. I know what it's like to be so desperate to speed up the process you buy into plus everything that promises you quick results. The weight loss industry is a billion-dollar industry for a reason," she continues. "But they don't work long term. You are going to keep losing and gaining and losing & gaining until you understand that true forever fat loss takes time."
Weight Loss Is Not Hard
Contrary to what you might think, losing weight is not hard, she continues. "The diet industry has made you believe that it is so hard to lose weight, but the process is actually simple. It's the taking action, the staying consistent, and the being patient that are hard."
You Have to Show Up No Matter What
Next, you have to show up "when no one is cheering for you, and no one notices your hard work before you start seeing the results you want," she says. "You have to show up when someone tries to poke fun at your choices + priorities or gives you unhelpful, unsolicited advice, or maybe even tries to derail your plan. No one can do this for you except you."
Mindset Is Everything
Mindset is everything she says. "Literally everything. Flipping your script from 'I can't, and I'll try, and this is hard' to 'This is what I am doing' takes a lot of work. But I'm telling you – you will not hate your body and pick it apart, fill your mind with negative thoughts, and achieve the results you want. It has never worked, and it never will," she writes.
Stay in Your Lane
Her last truth is to stay in your lane. "You can get distracted by the latest 'weight-loss trend.' You can get caught up in comparison. You can get thrown off by your own negative thoughts. Block out the noise and keep going."

Track Food and Drinks
In another recent video, she reveals three things that will speed up fat loss, starting with tracking and measuring food and drinks. "You know you need to be in a calorie deficit (eating fewer calories than you are expending) to lose weight, and the best way to do that is to know •exactly• what you're eating. Otherwise, how do you really know?" she says. "This includes every bite, lick, taste, energy drink, the food you eat at home or at a restaurant … yes, even on weekends."
No Cheat Days or Weekends
She also discourages having free-for-alls every weekend. "Plain & simple – every day of the week matters. And you have to get out of the mentality of being "good" all week and "treating yourself" on the weekend. That is keeping you stuck! 5 / 7 days of sticking to your plan is 70% of the week … so expect 70% of the results. Master your weekends and 10x your progress."

Cut Out Alcohol
She strongly recommends cutting out alcohol. "Listen, just know that ANY amount of alcohol will SLOW your progress. This is not my opinion. This is a fact," she says. "Of course, if you drink it, you need to track it accurately, but you're missing the point. You said you wanted to •speed up• your fat loss."
Amp Up Protein Intake
In another video, she stressed the importance of prioritizing protein. "30-35g per meal and at least 10-15g per snack," she suggests. "Protein keeps you full, and it burns more calories digesting it than carbs and fat," explains Body Network's Resident RDN, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian and co-author of the Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies. "It is also really important to assist in maintaining muscle mass as you're trying to lose weight."
