Do you want to lose weight but are stuck with bad habits from your childhood? Jordyn Raye is a weight loss coach and influencer who regularly shares tips and tricks on how to burn fat and drop pounds in a healthy and sustainable way. In a new Instagram post, she gets real about some of the unhealthy habits she learned when she was younger that caused her to gain unnecessary weight and reveals the shifts she eventually made to lose it. β€œWhy don’t they teach us nutrition in school? But seriously… if we knew about these habits causing us to gain weight in adulthood, it would be a lot easier to break them,” she says in the post.

Bad Habit 1: Eating Convenient But Processed Foods

Sometimes, the most convenient food is the unhealthiest. β€œEating pop tarts & cereal for breakfast- there is nothing good about starting your day off with straight sugar. This just leads to even more cravings & blood sugar crashes throughout the day,” she says in her post.

Bad Habit 2: Cleaning Your Plate

Mother doesn’t always know best, according to Raye. If you were trained to β€œclean your plate” as a child, it might be causing you to hold onto weight. β€œBelonging to the β€˜clean plate club’ so you don’t waste food β€” now you feel guilty for NOT finishing a 1000+ calorie meal when you go out to eat” is her second bad habit.

Bad Habit 3: Dessert After Dinner

If you lived in a house where having a sweet treat after a meal was the norm, it could be impacting your weight as an adult. β€œAlways having dessert after dinner- this always led me to crave ice cream every single night,” she says.

Bad Habit 4: Using Food as an Emotional Outlet

β€œUsing food as an emotional outlet” is another habit she names. β€œHad a good gymnastics meet? Let’s get a McDonald’s frappe. Had a bad day at work? Let’s go get ice cream” is not how you should be functioning.

Shift 1: Focus on Starting the Day with Protein

She goes on to reveal β€œthe shifts” she made that helped her lose 20 pounds and keep it off for good. β€œI start my day off with 20-30g of protein to avoid excess cravings throughout the day,” she says. Research has found that consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW) but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets. You can benchmark your progress with this useful Lean Body Mass Calculator.

Shift 2: Stop Eating Once You're Satisfied

She also shifted her mental mindset about meals. β€œI eat until I am satisfied, even if there is food left on the plate. Got very in tune with my hunger cues,” she writes.

Shift 3: Eat Small Sweet Treats Throughout the Day

Instead of indulging in a big dessert, she spreads her sweet treats throughout the day. β€œI’ll eat a small portion of sweets throughout the day instead of having 500 calories worth of ice cream right before bed,” she writes.

Shift 4: Outlet Emotions Via Things Other Than Food

Instead of eating her feelings, she has found other ways to process them. β€œI outlet my emotions towards things other than food- a walk outside, sitting in sunlight, talking to a friend, etc,” she writes. β€œI was so motivated to lose weight and I wanted to see results fast, but I didn't do my research and I jumped straight in, literally into a high intensity, 90 day workout plan. Huge mistake,” Kiki says in the video.

After 45 Days She Hadn’t Lost Weight

After a month-and-a-half, she didn't feel like she'd lost any weight. β€œI was overdoing it. The long, painful HIIT workouts were actually doing my body no good. They were causing it too much stress and loads of other problems,” she says.

Indya Ago Lost 120 Pounds by Learning How to Have a β€œBalanced” Approach to Food

@indyaagos

Something I tell my clients when they first start coaching with me is that in order for these results to be sustainable we have to create balance. when I first started my weight loss journey, I used to restrict myself so much, I would demonize so many different kinds of foods that diet culture had brainwashed me, and into believing were the reason why I wasn’t able to reach the results I was looking for. Which just led me to cycles of binging, and creating a very unhealthy relationship between nutrition and my body. Through proper education on macronutrients, I was able to heal this relationship. And this is how I help my clients and maintain their goals as well. Education is power. WIEIAD DEETS: πŸ’š breakfast: protein, pancakes, egg, white scramble, turkey bacon πŸ’š snack: fruit, salad, and protein smoothie πŸ’š lunch: birria tacos + veg πŸ’š dinner: seafood boil Babe, if you’re ready to finally create a lifestyle transformation that’s sustainable while still eating all of the foods that you enjoy, I would love to work with you. She β€œStarted Slow” and Learned β€œSelf-Trust”

@indyaagos

If you wanna lose 80 pounds next year, I’m gonna tell you exactly how to do it! No gatekeeping the secret to success here. The number one thing that you need to get clear on, is the amount of time it’s going to take you to achieve your goal, the amount of effort required for you to get there, and, of course, why it’s so important to you. Setting a realistic expectation for yourself, while also simultaneously connecting with your why is the first step to create the foundation. You need to be successful through 2024. When you understand that this journey is going to take time, it’s going to require sacrifice, it’s going to require you stepping so far out of your comfort zone, that you may be paralyzed by fear at times. But being okay with the discomfort. Surrendering to knowing that in those moments of uncertainty, in those moments of insecurity, and discomfort, are facilitating growth. Connecting with knowing that, allowing yourself to grow, is what is going to help you reach your goals. And not only reach your goals, sustain those achievements. Baby, 2024 can be your year, and the first thing that you need to do, is get your mindset right. Know why you’re on this journey, know what you need to do to get from point A to point B, and set yourself up for success. Start building the mindset, habits, and routines into your daily life now in order to be successful 2024. and if you’re ready to take the next step, you’re ready to invest in yourself. I’m now accepting applications for January. The link is in my bio let’s get to work!🀘🏽 #weightlosstransformation #weightlosstips #weightlossjourney #weightlossgoals #weightlosscoach #weightlosshelp #weightlosschallenge #fatlosstips #fatlossjourney #nutritiontips #mindsetcoach #newyearsresolution #newyearnewme #nutritioncoach #fitnesscoach

In another video, Indya reveals another tactic that helped her lose so much weight. β€œYou got to start slow,” she says. β€œIf you approach this from an all or nothing mentality, you are only setting yourself up for failure. A big part of this journey is regaining self-trust. You are so used to letting yourself down. The way that you build trust with yourself again is by following through with the promises that you've made to yourself.”

And Took a Deep Dive Into Her Failed Attempts at Weight Loss

Another thing she did is β€œgoing to require you to dig deep,” she says. β€œWe need to figure out what your main excuses or your repeated point of failure chances are. You've been stuck in the same exact cycle, repeating the same narratives as to why you haven't been able to be successful in the past. If your story is that you never have any time, then we need to figure out why you're not prioritizing making time. People make time for what's important to them. If the story is that you are overwhelmed and you have no idea where to start, then it is time to reach out for help so that you have a plan of action as well as guidance.”

Raven Norwood, 28, of Huntington Beach, California, started her weight loss journey at 212 pounds and has managed to drop down to 155 pounds, losing 165 pounds in two years. In an interview with Body Network, she explains that she used to eat food containing several dyes, fast food, and packaged food with GMOs, too much MSG, and preservatives. While she didn’t eliminate β€œany specific food groups because balance is the key to longevity,” she did cut the above from her diet and started cooking her own meals β€œas much as possible.” Creating healthy relationships with all food groups is so important when it comes to keeping the weight off, she stresses. β€œBalance is key, so, if I want a cookie here and there, I eat the cookie… no biggie!”

She Also Amped Up Her Water Intake

Raven adds that β€œlots of water” keeps her hydrated and feeling full. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Raven also encourages finding a fitness form that you love. She discovered rowing at her local Row House. β€œI love how boutique and specialized gyms are getting more recognition! When I first found Row House, I had never seen a gym dedicated to rowing,” she says. β€œAnd on top of that you get floorwork exercises, group fitness and the wonderful community that comes along with it! I think a lot of people would benefit from boutique gyms.”

She Took Progress Pictures

Progress photos were also an important part of Raven’s weight loss journey. β€œSometimes your mind will play tricks on you, and make you feel like you haven’t done as much as you have,” she says. If she feels discouraged, she will look at her β€œDay 1” photo and it will provide instant motivation. β€œTake photos because your mind will play tricks on you, but those photos won’t,” she says.

Dils Less Lost 50 Pounds by Not Drinking Coffee on an Empty Stomach

Dils Lee (@dilshealth) lost 50 pounds by making a few simple lifestyle habit changes, which not only aided in weight loss, but were a game-changer in her overall health, especially with her inflammation and hormonal imbalance. One of the first changes that she made? β€œI stopped drinking coffee on an empty stomach and started making my breakfast look like this,” she said. β€œDrinking coffee on an empty stomach can lead to bloating, nausea, and anxiety, and it can also raise your cortisol levels, which can negatively impact ovulation weight and hormonal imbalances.”

She Also Switched From HIIT to Low Intensity Workouts

You don’t have to do HIIT workouts to lose weight. The second change that she made β€œwas stopping all high intensity training while I was losing weight,” she said. β€œI found that I harbored a lot of inflammation in my face, arms, body, stomach, and legs everywhere.” Instead, she opted for lower intensity training. β€œBasically, by switching to lower intensity workouts, I've found that my waist has drastically come in. My stomach is much more flat, and I'm actually building a lot of tone and muscle in my arms and legs,” she says.

And, She Prioritized Sleep

β€œThe fourth change that I made is that I introduced a healthy sleep routine,” Dils reveals. β€œMy routine includes using supplements like magnesium and then not using my phone an hour before bed. Prioritizing sleep will help your body recover after physical activity. It'll also help with hormone regulation, metabolic regulation, stress and emotional wellbeing.” What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

Alexandra Lost 40 Pounds by Eating the Same Meals Every Day

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) personally lost 40 pounds by eating the same meals daily. β€œFor 1-2 months I ate the same meals every single day why? Because I was confused I didn’t know what to eat or where to start so I ate the same thing everyday,” Alexandra confesses in the caption of her video.

She Also Walks 10,000 Steps a Day

In another video she reveals that walking 10,000 steps a day was also key. β€œI weigh around 150lbs so walking 10k steps burns an extra 300-400 calories a day without spending hours on the stair master,” says Alexandra. β€œWalking can be done anywhere you don’t have to get fancy gym clothes you can literally walk in your pjs,” she adds. And, it helps regulate hunger. β€œWalking is not an extremely difficult exercise and it can help regulate your appetite hormones and reduce feelings of hunger,” she says.

David Tuckfield Lost 60 Pounds EMS Workouts

David_Tuckfield7David Tuckfield

David Tuckfield, 61, dropped 60 pounds and reduced his body fat by 23 percent in 16 months by incorporating electro muscle stimulation (EMS) workouts into his routine, which he discovered at BODY20. β€œI was very skeptical when I first tried the EMS workouts. I was shocked after my demo workout how much I felt a difference,” he told Body Network. β€œFor me, the amazing thing about the EMS workouts to me is that I can actually feel or sense my muscles. That was something that I had never experienced. At first I could feel them only during the workouts, but now when I exert myself I can discern which muscles are engaged. I don’t have huge or impressive muscles, but that I am more in-tune with the muscles I have. It is a good feeling to feel your muscles engage when you do an activity.” Another β€œgreat thing” about the workout β€œis that you really get a full workout (or better) in 20 minutes,” he says.

He Also Set Long-Term Goals

David_Tuckfield5David Tuckfield

He also started looking at weight loss as a long-term goal. β€œDon’t think short term. Think of it as a very long journey,” he suggests. β€œYou will plateau, and you should just be comfortable with that. If you don’t stress out about the plateaus, you will eventually work through them.” Daily weigh-ins also helped him. β€œIf you’ve gained weight, ask yourself what you did yesterday that would have made you gain weight. Usually the answer is obvious,” he says.

Google, TDEE calculator. From there, put in your information. I'm gonna tell you exactly how many calories you need to eat. I ate about 1600 to 1800 calories daily, just depending on my activity level for the day. If I did two workouts that day, I would eat closer to 1800. If I had a more sedentary day, I would eat closer to 1500 to 1600.” She also followed a meal plan. β€œI have a seven day meal plan available at the top of my profile. It just makes it really easy when you're going to a grocery shop, when you're first starting out, when things are structured, it's gonna make it a lot easier to follow and just to stay consistent, not skipping breakfast, especially if we're exercising.”

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) has amassed a following on TikTok and Instagram by sharing videos about her weight loss. In her many viral videos, she reveals the simple but effective changes she made to her lifestyle that enabled her to drop the weight fast. In a new Instagram video, she gets specific about the β€œ3 things” she β€œstopped doing to lose 40 pounds.”

She Stepped Away From the Scale

The first thing Alex did was stop weighing herself, she writes. β€œWhy? The scale was messing with my head, so I threw it off my balcony.”

She Stopped Counting Calories

Alexandra_alexx.fitt11alexxandra.fitt/Instagram

Lots of health experts recommend counting calories, but that didn’t work for Alex. β€œI stopped counting calories and stuck to a schedule. I ate breakfast at 8 a.m., a snack at 11, lunch at 1, a snack at 3, and dinner at 6. And yeah, your schedule may be different, but if you have 5 minutes to check TikTok or like this post, you have 5 minutes to grab an apple or pick up a protein bar and throw it in your purse,” she writes.

She Stopped Doing Workouts She Hated

Her third lifestyle change? β€œI stopped doing the workouts I hated,” she claims. I remember I’d always do 40 minutes on the Stairmaster (it didn’t help me lose weight, only raise my cortisol levels), and on the days I was lazy, I’d skip the gym altogether just because I didn’t want to do cardio. Now, my only cardio is walking.”

Her advice? β€œStart implementing a routine that makes you happy and works for you, not anyone else,” she concludes the post.

Here’s How She Used Walking for Weight Loss

As for exercise, in some of her other videos, Alex elaborated on how walking helped with her weight loss. Not only would she walk for 20-30 minutes in the morning, but she would take a short 10-15 minute walk after lunch.

Do you want to tone up your midsection? Achieving your abfab goals doesn’t have to be complicated, according to one weight loss warrior. Nikki (@nikkigetsfit) is a fitness enthusiast who shares her health journey via social media. In a recent post, she revealed four simple exercises that helped her tone her tummy. β€œMy ab workout that helped me go from this to …to this,” she wrote across the video that revealed dramatic transformation photos. β€œIt will make you sweat, but it feels amazing when you are done!”

She Does 3-4 Rounds

Nikki explains how she does her sets. β€œI do each exercise back to back with no rest in between. Then, I take a 3-4 minute break and do another round! I do 3-4 rounds depending on how I’m feeling that day,” she writes in her post.

Here Are the Exercises

  • 10 leg raises
  • 25 suitcase crunches
  • 30 Russian twists
  • 10 plate sit-ups.

She Does the Workout 1 to 2 Times Per Week

β€œI usually do this 1-2 times a week in order to strengthen my core; however, every time I post an ab workout, I feel it is important to mention that abs are made in the kitchen! My transformation has mostly come from focusing on my nutrition and eating lots of veggies & protein,” she concludes.

She Did Weight Watchers

In one of her YouTube videos, Nikki elaborates on her weight loss, revealing that she dropped 70 pounds and has β€œmaintained that loss now for another two years.” Her success is due to ditching a few habits, she claims. β€œI've struggled with my weight my entire life and it's been something that I never thought I could do. It's something that I've wanted to do and just focus on my health and nutrition, and I've always loved cooking and everything, but it's something I've just always struggled with,” she says.

She Stopped Eating Out One to Two Times Per Day

Nikki reveals that she and her husband would rely on β€œfast food and just really unhealthy, quick and easy options that were loaded with calories and just really didn't even make us feel good” for meals. β€œIt really had gotten kind of out of control realizing how high points so many fast food items were because we weren't choosing low point items. We didn't really care. It really did impact our health, and I think that's where a huge amount of our weight gain came from,” she said. In her first month on Weight Watchers, she stopped eating out altogether.

β€œWe didn't eat out the first month at all because we just wanted to get away from it kind of and just work on trying to find ways to cook at home,” she said. Instead, they would make β€œcopycat meals” at home, healthier versions of their favorite foods. β€œIt made us excited. We realized we could still eat these foods we loved and have big portions of 'em, and it wasn't as many points as the fast food options.”

She Stopped Putting Herself Down

She also worked on β€œstopping negativity,” she says. β€œI would never say the things I say to myself to anybody else, and it just didn't make sense that I was so hard and mean on myself,” she continued. She started saying nice things to herself out loud, and β€œit really did start to make a difference in the way I thought about things, the way that I was motivated, and it slowly started to make a difference really trying to stop those negative thoughts when they came through and trying to switch them around to thinking a more positive thought or something just not as negative,” she explained.

Another game changer is when she β€œstopped focusing on an end result and hitting it by a certain time” and instead started β€œfocusing on consistency.” She β€œfocused on what I could control” and things that would make her health improve instead of the number on the scale, which surprisingly dropped as a result. β€œIn the long run, I was able to lose the weight, but my focus was on the consistency aspect and the part that I can control and not the uncontrollable of what the number on the scale says because it changes so frequently. So when I stopped worrying so much about the end result, it really did help take so much pressure off me.”

She Gave Herself Rewards

She also started rewarding herself at the end of the month β€œ when I stayed consistent,” she says. β€œI did one month, three months, six months, and then a year,” she says, explaining that she did different rewards, and β€œit felt good to reward myself because it was something that I knew I had earned and I had done and I had put in the hard work for it.”

She Stopped Restricting Herself

She also β€œstopped restricting” herself. β€œIn the past, I always thought this was just the best way to go about things. I always thought that this was just what was going to make me lose weight, what was going to help me have success. I pretty much thought that I had to cut everything out that I enjoyed and only eat the things that were dried out: chicken breast, salad, peppers, and bunless burgers. I thought I had to have all the most basic diet foods that everyone thinks about when they think of stuff like that and that I couldn't have any foods that I enjoyed.”

She then learned that β€œtechnically, I could have anything that I wanted” with the WW points system, β€œand that really helped us because we were able to incorporate still so many of the foods that we enjoy and just using our points and deciding what's a priority, what's worth it.” She realized that restricting herself too much led to binge eating, β€œand so when I restrict something, I just want it more and more and more, and then the second that I'm able to get it, it is just out of control.”

She Stopped Caring About What Others Thought

Finally, she β€œstopped caring what others thought,” she said. She explains that when she was bigger, she β€œ really always felt so much shame” and was β€œembarrassed” about her weight. β€œI wanted to be healthier, but I struggled so much with other people knowing that I didn't want people to know that, and part of me not wanting people to know that also kept me in the position I was in.”

However, she stopped being afraid of telling people she wanted to get into shape. β€œAnyway, I just want to focus on bettering myself and the people judging people for wanting to better themselves. Like I said, they're the ones with the problem, so I just kind of thought through that and realized I just need to do what's best for me no matter what anyone thinks.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

If you have hit a weight plateau, you aren’t alone. Many people struggle at some point in their weight loss journey to continue dropping weight. However, sometimes all you need to do is shift your approach. Haley Thomas (@thehaleyrthomas), who lives in Arnold, Missouri, is a Certified Surgical Tech First assistant and lost 15 pounds on her own after welcoming her first child. However, she hit a crossroads and couldn’t seem to lose any additional weight – until she discovered a new way to eat and exercise.

She Struggled to Start Over

Haley tells Body Network that she β€œhad to start from square one” at 6 weeks postpartum after a C-section. β€œIt was hard and I felt like I had never worked out before although I worked out my entire pregnancy,” she confesses. β€œGetting back into the gym while balancing a newborn and breastfeeding, hardly any sleep, and recovering from a c-section seemed impossible. I kept showing up no matter how hard it was. I also kept tracking my food. Eventually I was able to get into the swing of things and it became easier and easier. Some days were hard especially after being up with my son multiple times throughout the night, but I had a newfound motivation as a mom. To be the healthiest and best version of myself for my son.”

Her Weight Plateaued

Haley, 31, who is 5’3”, plateaued at 150 pounds. β€œI had lost about 15 pounds by myself but plateaued and needed a little support,” she says. She went onto lose 20 pounds using the Working Against Gravity program. β€œI now fluctuate around 130-134 just depending on the time of the month.”

She Does Crossfit, High Intensity Workouts

For her workouts, Haley relies on a Crossfit style of training, β€œusually with high intensity,” she tells us. β€œMy favorite exercises are pull ups, dumbbell snatches, double unders, muscle ups, and lunges. I love higher skilled movements that get the heart rate up.”

She Used to Try to Eat Under 1200 Calories Per Day

She also shifted her approach to diet. She once believed that 1200 calories or less a day was the only way to lose weight. β€œI have tried every β€˜diet’ under the sun. Intermittent fasting, keto, carb cycling, low carb, low calorie… everything,” she says. β€œI have found through trial and error that although these diets will result in some weight loss at first they are typically not sustainable. I am a firm believer in balance and working with a nutrition coach helped me find the balance that has given me such great results.”

She Now Counts Macros

β€œI have a prescribed set of macros that were given to me by Alex Oskian, my nutrition coach at Working Against Gravity,” she continued. β€œMy diet typically consists of whole foods like eggs, protein shakes, protein bars, lean meats, rice, rice cakes, fruit and then a few β€˜fun’ filler foods like Greek yogurt ice cream bars at the end of the day to reach my macro goals.” She hasn’t eliminated any food from her diet, but she eats certain calorie dense foods in moderation. β€œI can track pizza, cookies, ice cream or have these foods on holidays and vacations,” she says. β€œBalance is key! I use protein powder and creatine on a regular basis.”

She Is Proud of Her Muscle Definition

Haley_Thomas_thehaleyrthomas2thehaleyrthomas/Instagram

She believes that her biggest body achievement is the muscle definition she has achieved. β€œMy #1 tip would be to be consistent. Not every day will be perfect and it doesn’t need to be. Life is busy. Moms are busy. Just do the best you can and the good habits will shine through,” she said. One way to measure progress is by taking photos. β€œThe scale is a good tool but can also be deceiving. Especially when you have different goals such as gaining muscle and fueling yourself instead of just losing weight,” she explains.

Her Advice: Ease Into It

Haley_Thomas_thehaleyrthomas5thehaleyrthomas/Instagram

Her advice for anyone starting their journey? β€œDon’t go all in if you’ve never had an active healthy lifestyle before,” Haley advises. β€œYou don’t need to start by going to the gym 6 days a week and tracking macros every day if you don’t even know what macros are. Make small changes at first then work up to those things. Maybe start by working out 3 days a week and tracking just protein or reaching a calorie goal. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself to the point where results seem too difficult to reach. The point of it all is to create a healthy lifestyle so be realistic with yourself!”

Final Tip: Find Workouts You Like

Haley_Thomas_thehaleyrthomas3thehaleyrthomas/Instagram

Her final tip? β€œFind an exercise you actually like to do,” she suggests. β€œMaybe that’s a group HIIT class, spin class, maybe even running. I love Crossfit and I may not feel like going on certain days, but I tell myself that if I just show up I’ll be happy I did. I’ve never shown up and regretted it even if it wasn’t my best workout.”

Are you on a high-protein diet for fat loss but can’t seem to lose weight? You could be making a common mistake, according to an expert. Cherisse Kozloski is a nutrition coach and personal trainer who helps her clients lose weight and keep it off. In a new post, she discusses some slip-ups that many seem to be making. Most women eating a high protein diet but not losing fat are making these common mistakes,” she writes. β€œAre these mistakes stopping your progress?”

Mistake 1: You Aren’t Counting Calories

The first mistake? β€œNot paying attention to your overall calories,” she reveals. β€œEating more protein doesn’t automatically mean fat loss. If you’re not mindful of your portions, you could be consuming more calories than you burn, a surplus is a surplus.”

Solution: Measure or Weigh Your Food

How can you correct this? β€œWeigh or measure your food at least for a little while so you can get a good idea of what a serving size actually is,” she suggests.

Mistake 2: Choosing Food Labeled β€œHigh Protein

The second mistake people make? β€œChoosing foods labeled as β€˜high protein’” she says. β€œMany foods labeled β€˜high protein’ actually aren’t.”

Solution: Calculate Yourself

Her solution? Do your own calculations. β€œRemember the 10/1 rule for every 100 calories you want to get at least 10 grams of protein to be considered high protein,” she says.

Mistake 3: Skipping Healthy Fats

Mistake three has to do with going too low-fat. β€œSkipping healthy fats,” she says. β€œAvoiding fats completely can leave you hungry, mess with your hormones, and make it harder to stick to your diet.”

Solution: Eat Healthy Fats

The solution is simple. β€œAdd fats into your diet like avocado, olive oil, and nuts,” she says. β€œBut remember they are calorie dense so be mindful of how much you’re consuming.”

Mistake 4: Eating too Many Processed Foods

The fourth and final mistake? Just because something is high in protein doesn’t mean it’s good for you. β€œEating too many processed foods,” is a no-no. β€œProtein bars and shakes are convenient but often packed with sugar and additives,” she says.

Solution: Eat Whole Food Protein Sources

Instead, stay away from packaged foods and shop the grocery store's perimeter. β€œFocus on whole-food protein sources like shrimp, boneless chicken thighs, and eggs to nourish your body and support fat loss,” she says. Are you curious about what to expect after achieving your weight loss goals? You might be surprised what it is like, says one weight loss warrior. Emily Christensen is a social media influencer who lost 60 pounds after undergoing weight loss surgery and adopting a healthy lifestyle. She regularly shares tips and tricks with her followers about how she did it. In a new post, she reveals the truth about being overweight and thin. β€œSome brutal honesty from who has spent the majority of her life feeling fat and longed to be skinny,” she writes in the Instagram post.

When You Lose Weight, More Problems Surface

The first truth? You might find underlying problems after slimming down. β€œWhen you’re over weight that’s the only problem you want to solve. Once you lose the weight you realize how many underlying things are going on that have *actually* been causing issues. I’m talking relationships, spending, parenting,” she says.

Being Skinny Doesn’t Mean You Are Healthy

The second thing she learned? β€œBeing skinny doesn’t mean you’re healthy,” she says. β€œWhen I was at my lowest weight I had lost a lot of muscle. Rebuilding that is kind of scary but I know it’ll serve me when I’m a fit grandma.”

Weight Loss Is Mental

Her third truth is that weight loss is mental. β€œThere are a lot of tools out there that can help! But they’re still just tools. I have to talk to myself a LOT to remind myself I didn’t suddenly gain back 60+ pounds,” she writes.

You Might Still Be Obsessed with Your Weight

She goes onto explain that obsession with your weight might not end. β€œBefore I lost weight I was really obsessed with losing weight. Now that I’ve lost weight I have times where I’m really obsessed with keeping it off. Not out of vanity but out of fear. I never want to go back to feeling how I did for so many years,” she writes.

Your Loved Ones Might Not Be On Board with Your New Lifestyle

Another truth? β€œNo one cares about your journey as much as you do. Meaning…it’s not anyone’s job to eat what you eat. Or exercise with you. Your spouse/partner may or may not be on board with your new lifestyle. It’s up to you to buy and prepare the right foods and find the time to exercise,” she says.

Being Skinny Won’t Give Your More Self-Worth

Finally, getting thin won’t solve your self-esteem problems. β€œBeing skinny isn’t going to give you more self worth. It might help you love your body more and appreciate what it’s done for you…but β€˜skinny’ isn’t an attribute that very many people use when they talk about why they love someone,” she concludes.
