Sometimes, weight loss boils down to saying goodbye to a few simple unhealthy habits and making a psychological shift. Christina Jordan is a Board Certified Master Nutritionist at Fit Body Weight Loss. She personally lost 134 pounds and reversed Type 2 Diabetes, thyroid issues, and autoimmune issues with healthy eating and lifestyle. In one viral video, she reveals how she lost weight by getting rid of a few bad habits. “Goodbyes are always hard... But not when it's saying goodbye to the things that hold us back! It’s time to step up and be the WARRIOR —and NOT the worrier— that we were ALL born to be!” she writes in the caption of the video. “This is how I lost 134 pounds and kept it off over 10 years and 3 kids!”

Saying Goodbye to Things That “Aren’t Lifting You Up” Is Hard But Worth It

“The truth is, goodbyes are hard. Goodbyes are making changes. It's always hard. It's never easy to say goodbye, especially when you're saying goodbye to things that don't serve you, to things that aren't good for you. To people who don't appreciate you or to situations that aren't building you up, saying goodbye is always hard. But let me tell you, my friend, it is always, always worth it. It's always worth it to say goodbye to those things that aren't building you up, that aren't encouraging you, that aren't lifting you up in your journey,” she says at the start of the clip.

People Make a Lot of Excuses

“I get lots of messages from people who will message me, and they'll email me, and they'll text me, and they'll call us at the clinic, and they'll say, you know what? I wish I could do it. I wish I had what it takes. You know what, you do have it,” she says. “But the truth is, if you keep letting those excuses rule you, if you keep letting those excuses tell you what to do, boss you around, you're giving up your authority.”

She Weighed 271 Pounds and Made Every Excuse in the Book Before Changing Her Life

“When I started my journey, I started at 271 pounds. And I had, I told myself, some of those bullshit lies I did. I said I can't change. I said, you know what? I've had kids. I've destroyed my body. I'll never get it back. I dropped out of college to have babies. I'll never go back. I said I can't do it. I can't go back to college with babies. You know what? I went back to college with three babies, and I got my degree. I went back and got it again. I went back twice with the babies. And I found my passion after having those kids. And you know what? My struggle with my weight became my passion.”

Say Goodbye to Viewing Mountains as Obstacles, But Instead, Challenges to Her Make You Stronger

“Don't think that mountain in your life is going to stop you. That mountain is actually your practice to become greater, to go more, to become stronger because nothing grows without that. That literally you gotta have something to do. You have to try. There's gonna be a problem because it's those problems that make us stronger,” she says.

Say Goodbye to Telling Yourself You Aren’t Good Enough

“The truth is, that's like life. Stop letting the excuses rule you. Stop letting people tell you you're not good enough. Stop telling yourself you're not good enough. Stop lying to yourself thinking that you can't do this because honey, you can do this. You should do this. And my God, you should take action now,” she says.

Say Goodbye to Excuses

“You should stop telling yourself it's too late. Somebody needs this. It is not too late. It is not too late. There are no more excuses that can say it's too late, or you're, you don't have what it takes. 'cause you do. I do. And you do too. You can do this. And goodbyes are hard. But if you're gonna say goodbye to anything, say goodbye to those excuses,” she says.

Say Goodbye to People That Don’t Believe in You

“Say goodbye to the doubters. Say goodbye to the people that don't believe in you, because you know what you are, who you hang around with. And if they're not saying, ‘My God, you have greatness in you, you are powerful, you are amazing, you are smart, you are courageous, you are absolutely astounding, and you're not living up to your best self,’ then get rid of 'em. Say goodbye, baby,” she continues.

Replace Them with People Who Lift You Up

“Move on and get around people who lift you up, who cheer you on, the ‘You know what I want people’ who cheer for me instead of, you know, who put me down. I want people who lift me up instead of beating me up. If people beat you up, get rid of 'em. I don't care if your coworkers are talking down bye. If your friends make you feel bad about yourself, they ain't friends. They're frenemies. Get them out.“

Say Goodbye to Talking Down to Yourself

“If you are not speaking well about yourself every single freaking day, if you're not looking at yourself in the mirror and saying, ‘I'm amazing. I'm fabulous, I'm strong, I'm powerful, I can do this. I have a dream. And you know what? God gave me that dream, and I'm gonna do it.’ If you are not speaking good over you every single day, then something's wrong,” she says.

Say Goodbye to “Limited Thinking

“You need to say goodbye to those bad habits. Say goodbye to that limited thinking. Say goodbye to that old you and step into who you were created to be,” she says, admitting that she “never dreamed” she could have the life that she does. “But you know what? What happens when you climb those mountains? Don't let the mountain in your journey stop you. Don't let that mountain scare you. You were born to climb. This is your mountain, and you are gonna climb it, and you're gonna conquer it. And it is hard. It is hard to say goodbye to the limiting thoughts, but it is worth it. And if you're gonna say goodbye to anything, you say goodbye to those limiting thoughts, to the negativity, to the self-doubt, and just watch what happens. You're the world changer. Seriously, if you wanna be a world changer, change your world, change your habits.”

Start with One Thing

How should you go about changing? “Start with one thing,” she recommends. This going be “getting up early tomorrow morning,” to get a head start on your goals. “Set your alarm clock tonight. Go to bed early. Get up early tomorrow and go for a walk in the morning. Do some stretching in the morning. Do some yoga in the morning. Have a healthy breakfast in the morning. Have a green drink instead of that coffee.”

Invest in What You Need, But Stop Wasting Money On What You Do

But if you need a gym membership, do it. If you need to get some supplements, do it. If you, you know what? Instead of wasting money on things that steal from you, like fast food, why not go get those organic apples and the organic lettuces and all the great veggies? Seriously? It doesn't cost any more.

Start Building New Habits

“You just have to trade-off. And that is how it works. You say goodbye to the excuses, goodbye to the habits, and start building some new ones. I'm telling you, it is worth it. It will change your life. It'll change tomorrow. And you just start, you don't gotta worry about, ‘Oh, I gotta totally, radically change my world,’” she promises.

Make the Changes Now

“Just change tomorrow. Just change what you do tonight. Just change what you do tomorrow morning. That's all you gotta do. And then you stay with it and you keep going,” she says.

If You Fail, Forgive Yourself and “Do It Again”

“And when you fail, you forgive yourself, and you do it again. You keep trying. I'm serious. It's not about being perfect. It's about being persistent. And you just keep trying every freaking day you put in the work, and you keep trying, and tomorrow you try again,” she adds.

But the Most Important Thing Is to Start Right Now

Happy woman, friends and running in forest for workout, training or outdoor cardio exercise together. Active female person, athlete or runners smile for sports run, sprint or race in nature fitnessShutterstock

“If you wanna know how to change your life, change tomorrow morning. Let's just start tomorrow. Let's go to bed early tonight. Let's get a good night's sleep because tomorrow, you're saying goodbye to those bad habits. You're saying goodbye to the excuses, and you're saying goodbye to the old you and hello to the new me. Listen, you got this. I'm cheering for you. And if I can do this, you can do this. I'm the most stubborn mama around,” she says.

Put Yourself on Your To-Do List

She stresses the importance of making yourself a priority, even if you have kids. “I got three little boys, well, they're big boys now. I have three sons in my house. I have a lot to do in my life. And I'm telling you, I had to put me on the to-do list 'cause I never did,” she explains. “And once I did, something magical happened. I had a lot more energy to give my family. I had a lot more love to give my husband and a lot more patience to give my friends, my neighbors, and my community. I just had a lot more to give.” You can benchmark your progress with this useful Lean Body Mass Calculator.

Fill Your Cup Every Day

“If you are not filling up your cup every single day with kindness, with good words, with good thoughts, with self care, you're not gonna have anything to give anybody else. And you're gonna feel empty and you're gonna wonder why you walk around like a zombie or like I like to say a mom,” she points out. “You just feel dead.”

Say Goodbye to Bad Habits Today

“You're gonna wake up. And it starts with saying goodbye. Goodbye. Bad habits, goodbye excuses, goodbye limiting beliefs. See you later. I don't need you. Goodbye. Negative people. Buy toxic people and toxic food. See you later. I don't need you. Adios, goodbye,” she maintains. “And I did that two years ago. I literally got rid of every, almost every friend in my life that was toxic. And I found out I had no friends left. I had like two,” she admits. “They were amazing. And they lift me up instead of beat me up.” Her bottom line?

Are you eating less and exercising more and still can’t seem to lose weight? Lacey Iskra is a health coach who specializes in “root cause healing,” helping “women get to the root cause of their symptoms, lose fat & increase their energy,” she explains in her Instagram bio. In a recent video, she reveals some of the habits she had to give up in order to health her gut and lose weight. “6 crappy habits I had to quit to heal my hormones and lose 20 pounds of fat,” she writes in the video.

She Had to Shift Her Perspective From Eating Less and Working Out More

“I also had to give up a massive belief…A belief I had carried for most of my life,” she continues. “That in order to look and feel how I wanted I just had to eat less and move more. The belief was not working for me and also not serving me. Because I did that. I skipped meals, ate salads multiple times a day and refused to eat anything that wasn’t labelled low calorie.

She Wasn’t Losing Weight and Was “Puffy” and “Exhausted”

“And by following and listening this belief i dug my body into a deep hole,” she says. “Where nothing was working and I felt so stuck. I couldn’t possible eat any less or move any more and yet I was still bloated, puffy, overweight and exhausted.”

She Finally Admitted That the Habits Were Hurting Her

“Once I admitted that my daily habits were hurting me more then serving me I promised myself to start making changes and these were the first habits I kicked to the curb!!” she says, going onto to reveal the list.

Here Are the Bad Habits She Quit

  • Drinking coffee on an empty stomach
  • Working out 7 days a week and never taking rest days
  • Doom scrolling on my phone before bed
  • Rushing through everything absolutely as fast as possible
  • Undereating and skipping meals
  • Running multiple times per week.

She Also Recommends Modifying Current Habits

In another post, she reveals how modifying her daily habits and adding to them was also a game changer. “I still relax on the couch every night … now I just wear a castor oil pack,” she writes. “I still drink a litre of water every morning …now It just has two nettle teabags in it.”

She Also Tweaked Her Diet and Workouts

“I still hit 8000-10,000 steps per day….now I just do it outside instead of in. I still eat 4 meals a day ….now I just make sure its mainly whole foods. I still eat breakfast….now I just make it double the size lol,” she continued. The bottom line? Making small changes to you habits can result in a big, positive impact. Do you want to get rid of belly fat once and for all? Alvine Mbagtang is an influencer and weight loss warrior who dropped 134 pounds naturally, and now helps other women do the same. In a new post, she reveals a handful of habits that enabled her to lose weight. “If you’re holding most of your weight in your belly area, here are 5 things to change ASAP,” she writes, going on to reveal five tips.

Reduce Refined Carbs and Sugars

The first habit of blasting belly fat? “Cut down on refined carbs (like white bread, pastries, and sugary snacks) to prevent blood sugar spikes that lead to fat storage, especially around the belly. Instead, focus on whole grains, vegetables, and lean proteins,” she says.

Increase Protein Intake

Next, amp up your protein intake. “Eating more protein helps boost metabolism and reduces cravings, keeping you fuller longer. Aim to include a source of protein in each meal, like eggs, chicken, fish, or plant-based proteins,” she suggests.

The Science Behind Protein and Weight Loss

According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

Add More Fiber-Rich Foods

The third thing to do is amp up fiber intake. “Fiber helps regulate digestion and keeps you feeling full, which can reduce belly fat over time. Incorporate more veggies, fruits, and whole grains like oats and quinoa into your diet,” she writes.

Prioritize Quality Sleep

Next, focus on getting good sleep. “Poor sleep can lead to increased cortisol levels, which often contributes to fat storage in the abdominal area. Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night to support balanced hormones and reduce belly fat,” she says.

Sleep

What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

Incorporate HIIT Workouts

Finally, incorporate HIIT workouts. “High-intensity interval Training (HIIT) workouts are highly effective for burning belly fat. They keep your metabolism boosted even after you’re done exercising. Aim to include a few HIIT sessions each week for optimal fat-burning results.”

Christina Jordan

We've all been there – standing in front of the pantry, fighting the urge to grab that sugary snack we know we shouldn't eat. For Christina Jordan, a Board Certified Master Nutritionist at Fit Body Weight Loss, this struggle was all too real. After successfully losing 134 pounds and reversing Type 2 Diabetes, thyroid issues, and autoimmune conditions through healthy eating, she's sharing the key habits she had to break to achieve lasting success. If you're ready to transform your relationship with food, these insights could be exactly what you need.

1. Ignoring Water Intake

"You should be drinking one gallon of water a day," Jordan says in her post. "I know it's a lot, but those cravings for carbohydrates and sugars are often signs that you're dehydrated." She recommends carrying a gallon jug and gradually working up to the full amount, noting that proper hydration is crucial for managing cravings.

2. Removing Without Replacing

When it comes to breaking addictions, Jordan learned a valuable lesson: "You can't just remove an addiction; you have to replace it," she shares. "It's like ripping off a chunk of your skin – you create a gaping hole that needs to be filled." She suggests finding healthier alternatives, such as naturally sweetened beverages or herbal teas, to replace sugary sodas.

3. Skipping Essential Nutrients

"You have to have all three – protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats – to feel satiated," Jordan explains. She recommends incorporating specific foods like avocados (one per day) or a measured portion of almonds (9-12 count) to maintain balanced nutrition and prevent cravings.

4. Overlooking Physical Activity

"Don't give in to cravings – go do something else," Jordan advises. "Even 10 minutes of exercise will totally calm your sugar cravings." She personally uses exercise as a powerful tool to reprogram her brain's response to sugar cravings, often choosing to walk or use the treadmill when cravings strike.

5. Expecting Immediate Results

"Breaking an addiction takes time," Jordan reminds us. "You're not going to quit craving sugar forever after one day." She explains that it takes approximately 67 days for the brain to heal and form new neural pathways, making it essential to maintain consistency during this period.

6. Fighting Cravings Without a Strategy

Jordan shares a unique approach to managing cravings: "I have a little band on my wrist that I've been wearing for about 11 or 12 years. Whenever my brain starts to get out of control, I give that little band a tiny snap." This simple technique serves as a pattern interrupter, helping to maintain focus on health goals.

The Science Behind Sugar Addiction

"Breaking sugar is harder than breaking a cocaine addiction because the brain fires off the same way as cocaine," Jordan reveals. She points out that sugar's societal acceptance makes it particularly challenging to overcome, as it's present in many everyday situations and celebrations.

Managing the Transition

"If you're snapping at your kids or family, here's the deal: make sure you're getting enough healthy fats," Jordan advises. She suggests incorporating MCT oil into smoothies, protein shakes, or beverages to help manage mood swings during the sugar detox process.

Finding Healthy Alternatives

Jordan shares her personal strategy for replacing sugary drinks: "I discovered amazing, naturally sugar-free, organic iced teas that taste delicious. I sweeten them with lemons, limes, or oranges." She emphasizes the importance of being open to trying new options and finding what works for you.

The Path to Success

"After a while, your brain will heal those neural connector pathways," Jordan encourages. She maintains that with a 90-day commitment to new habits, you can successfully overcome sugar addiction. "It gets easier because your body heals, your brain heals, and new, better habits replace the old ones." Are you trying to lose weight but can’t seem to reach your goals? Cassie B of Cassie B Fitness is a coach and influencer who shares her health and fitness journey with thousands of social media followers. In a new post, she reveals her most unpopular advice about how to follow in her footsteps. “I lost over 75 pounds in less than a year. Here’s my unpopular weight loss advice to help you lose weight in 2025,” she writes. “Don’t shoot the messenger. Here’s my unpopular advice that may make some people mad, but following this advice helped me lose over 75lbs and is sure to help you lose weight in 2025.”

Stop Cutting Out Food

Her first tip is to “stop cutting out food,” she writes. “No single food makes you lose weight and no single food makes you gain weight. All food can and should be enjoyed. It all comes down to calories.”

Don’t Do or Eat Anything You Hate

Next, “stop eating foods you hate or doing exercise you dread,” she says. “There’s no reason to!! Eat the things you love while staying in a deficit and move your body in a way that you find enjoyable (walking is the best IMO).”

Stop Trying to Speed It Up

Her third suggestion? Stop trying to speed it up. “Weight loss is slow; but the time will pass anyway! Speeding it up causes you to do unsustainable things, which will cause you to fail!! Slow and steady,” she says.

Stop Looking for Quick Fixes

Fourth, “stop looking for a quick or easy fix,” she says. “There is no magical pill, diet, cleanse, etc.. the right way is the easy way. Calorie deficit.”

Stop Taking Short Cuts

Next, stop taking shortcuts. “Eating in a calorie deficit Monday through Thursday then taking the weekends off won’t get you anywhere!!! You don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be consistent,” she writes.

Stop Looking for Excuses

Finally, “stop looking for excuses or a perfect time to start,” she says. “No one can do it for you. You have to be the one to put in the effort, time, and consistency. You just have to START.”

She Also Offers Running Tips

In another post, she offers some of her priceless running tips. “Get proper running shoes! Go to a store and have them record your run so you can get proper shoes!” she writes.

Start Slow

Next, she says to pace yourself. “Start slow!! I ran my first mile at a 4.0mph pace. The slower you start, the longer you can go,” she says.

Focus on Time, Not Distance

Next, focus on time, not distance. “Focus on being able to run 1 minute without walking, then 2, then 5, so on. Once you’re ready, slowly build your speed,” she says.

RELATED:I Got Into the Best Shape of My Life at 50 by Following These 6 "Basics"

Use the Treadmill

“Don’t be afraid of the treadmill!” she continues. “I LOVE the treadmill for so many reasons. Running on a treadmill doesn’t make you any less of a runner.”

RELATED:20 Things You Need to Know About Ozempic and Weight Loss

Use Training Plans

Another tip is to use training plans as a guide. “They can help you structure how often / far / types of runs you should do to achieve your goals!” she says.

Sign Up for a 5K

She also recommends signing up for a 5k. “This motivates you like no other and helps keep you excited for running!” she points out.

Let Go of Pace

Her last tip? “Let go of pace. It doesn’t matter how fast you go. A mile is a mile whether it takes you 18 minutes or 8. You’re a runner either way,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss these 3 Simple Stretches Made This Coach More Flexible in 2 Weeks.

Are you on a mission to lose weight? Weight loss coach Dusty Young, who shed 100 pounds on his journey, has cracked the code with a revolutionary approach that is taking social media by storm. In a recent social media post, the self-described "recovering fat kid" opens up about his weight loss journey, revealing some non-negotiables. “6 things I personally don’t do as a nutrition coach that also lost 100 pounds,” he writes.

These Are His “No-go”s

“These are a no-go for me! There are a lot of things I used to do on my weight loss journey that I don’t do anymore…And honestly? Ditching them made losing 100 lbs (and keeping it off) way easier. Here are a few things I personally don’t do as a nutrition coach who’s been through it,” he writes.

He Doesn’t Fast

“I don’t fast,” he says about the first thing he avoids. “Tried it. Hated it. It just made me overeat later and tanked my workouts. Now? I eat when I’m hungry, my workouts are way better, and my energy is far more stable.”

He Doesn’t Spends Hours in the Gym

The second thing he doesn’t do? “I don’t spend hours in the gym,” he continues. ”I lift about 4 hours a week (sometimes less). I hit 7-10k steps daily and sprinkle in some cardio here and there. Getting in shape doesn’t have to feel like a second job.”

He Doesn’t Drink Black Coffee

“I don’t drink my coffee black,” is the third habit. ”I like a splash of creamer. And guess what? That’s fine. A little creamer isn’t the reason people struggle with fat loss.”

He Doesn’t Do Fad Diets

“I don’t eat my food off a wooden cutting board. Translation: I don’t do fad diets,” he continues. “If a diet claims to be the healthiest way to eat, it’s a solid red flag. Most diets have some solid principles—like eating more protein or whole foods—but if it’s extreme or makes everyday foods feel ‘off-limits,’ it’s probably not sustainable.”

He Doesn’t Overly Restrict

The next thing he doesn’t do? “I don’t overly restrict,” he says. ”The second I stopped telling myself ‘I can’t have that,’ I stopped the restrict-binge cycle. When nothing was off limits, balance got way easier, and life got more enjoyable,” he says.

He Doesn’t Beat Himself Up

“I don’t beat myself up after eating like an a-hol,” he essays. “One meal doesn’t ruin your progress—just like one healthy meal doesn’t magically transform your body. I move on by getting back on track with my next meal, and don’t even think twice.”

His Bottom Line: Stick to Sustainability

“The key? Sustainability over extremes. If it’s not something you can do forever, it’s probably not the best strategy for you,” he says. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you doing everything you think you should to lose weight, but the pounds aren’t falling off? Lois Hughey is a weight loss warrior and coach who lost 15 pounds and kept it off. Now, she makes it her mission to help women over 50 “simplify nutrition and fitness” and regularly offers tips for sustainable fat loss in menopause on her social media feeds. In a new post, she reveals weight loss “solutions” that are actually part of the problem. “I swear my body changed overnight in my late 40s, and trust me—I tried all the ‘solutions.’ (Hint: none of them worked.)” she writes. She also reveals a few things to do instead to help you lose weight.

You Can’t Just “Eat Less”

First, you can’t just “eat less,” she says. “A caloric deficit is key, but if you’ve been dieting forever, eating less won’t fix your midlife metabolism. It just leads to cravings, exhaustion, and that “start over Monday” cycle. You can pull this off for a while but once you decide you are tired of feeling terrible, you go right back to eating more and regain whatever weight you lost. Keeping you stuck in a cycle of gaining and losing the same five-10 pounds over and over again,” she writes.

You Might Need to Move More, But Maybe Not

“You might need to ‘move more’… or not,” she continues. “You cannot cardio your way to sustainable fat loss. Without strength training, too much cardio (without a balanced approach that includes strength training) will leave you under-muscled and hungry.”

You Can’t Rely on Simply Cutting Carbs

“Cutting carbs won’t save you,” she explains. “Carbs are energy (and happiness!). No solid data says low carb helps healthy women in midlife lose fat faster.”

You Can’t Just Add More of X

Also, “Adding more of X (protein, carbs, workouts, meals, snacks) won’t work without a strategy,” she says. “More isn’t better if you don’t understand what your body actually needs.”

What should you do instead? “Make sure your body is in a metabolically healthy place before you start cutting calories. This means good sleep, digestion, mood, energy and eating enough protein and overall calories before you try to lose fat,” she writes.

Walk and Lift Weights

Next, get your steps in. “Walk a minimum of 8000 steps a day and strength train 2-3 times a week. If you love cardio, add it in on top of that (allowing for some rest, too)” she writes.

Focus on Whole, Minimally Processed Carbs

You can eat carbs, but keep it healthy. “Keep 80% of your carbs whole, and minimally processed. Nuts, grains, seeds, veggies, and whatever fruit you want. The other 20% can be fun!” she writes.

Add Protein

“You may need to add more protein. You may need to add in a balanced snack. But if you add (even the good stuff) and go over your caloric needs, you will still gain weight. Add wisely,” she concludes. And if you enjoyed this article, don't missthese 8 High-Protein Foods with Nearly Zero Calories That Melt Fat.

Many people believe that carbs are the enemy in terms of weight loss. However, this isn’t true. Sarah Bouchard is a Nutrition Coach & Educator who helps women over 35 “ditch diet confusion & simplify nutrition” for “Sustainable fat loss + healthy body composition,” she explains in her Instagram bio. In a new social media post, she reveals that at 40, she finally shifted her approach to nutrition and fixed some crucial carb mistakes. Here is what she did instead.

She Spent Years Avoiding Carbs

“I spent years not eating foods like bananas or potatoes, thinking they would spike my glucose and make me gain weight, yet I: couldn’t figure out why I gained weight, didn’t look ‘toned’ despite working out, was constantly exhausted, had regular binges & had out of control cravings,” she writes.

This Impacted Her Metabolism

“Why? I didn’t have a healthy metabolism DESPITE eating a clean low-carb diet & working out. Because I: wasn’t eating enough protein, was eating too much fat/too many calories, wasn’t moving enough throughout the day, and drank alcohol regularly which wrecked my sleep,” she says.

She Is Now the “Healthiest and Strongest” She Has Been at 40

“I’m now 40 and can proudly say I’m the healthiest and strongest I’ve ever been in my life, & I eat over 200g of carbs a day!” she continues. “The real key to metabolic health isn’t cutting carbs—it’s optimizing muscle, movement, sleep, & food quality. Here’s what actually improves insulin sensitivity (backed by science).”

Build Muscle

The first thing that improves insulin sensitivity is building muscle. “Muscle is like a glucose sponge—it pulls sugar out of your blood, reducing the need for insulin. Resistance training 2–3x per week improves insulin sensitivity by increasing glucose uptake (PMID: 23970530). Prioritize progressive overload to see the best results,” she says.

Move Daily (Beyond the Gym)

Next, in addition to workouts, you should move daily. “Long sitting hours = reduced insulin sensitivity. Break up sitting every 30 mins with ‘movement snacks’ (e.g., air squats, stair climbs). Even a 5-min post-meal walk lowers blood sugar & insulin response (PMID: 19207879),” she writes.

Prioritize Sleep:

She also stresses the importance of prioritizing sleep. “Lack of sleep disrupts insulin function. Less than 6 hours/night? Your body responds as if it’s prediabetic (PMID: 20371664). Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep, stick to a schedule, & limit blue light before bed, she says.

Eat Mostly Whole-Food Carbs

Finally, “It’s not carbs—it’s the type of carbs,” she says. “Whole grains, fruits, veggies, and legumes digest slower, keeping blood sugar steady (PMID: 11976158). Stick to mostly whole food carbs that are full of fiber and water & keep the ‘fun carbs’ around 5-20% within calorie balance!” she writes.

Be More Strategic

The bottom line? “Fixing your metabolism isn’t about fear—it’s about strategy. Lift weights, move often, sleep well, and eat whole foods. Small shifts = big results,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, don't missthese 8 High-Protein Foods with Nearly Zero Calories That Melt Fat.
