Standing in your kitchen, staring at all those meal prep containers, you might feel overwhelmed. The tiny portions, the time commitment, the expense – it can all seem like too much. Katie Dunlop once felt the same way, until she discovered a system that changed everything.

"When I first started my 45-pound weight loss journey, I felt like meal prepping was so unrealistic," Katie shares. "But I realized I was missing out because it makes it so much easier to stay on track with your goals." Now a certified personal trainer, Katie has maintained her weight loss by developing an efficient meal prep system that delivers 100 grams of protein daily while keeping preparation time under an hour.

A Simple Approach to Meal Prep Success

"One of the biggest misconceptions is that eating healthy or eating to lose weight has to be really restrictive," Katie explains. Her approach proves otherwise – preparing four protein-packed meals, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack, in just 56 minutes.

Essential Tools for Quick Prep

Before starting your meal prep journey, Katie recommends having these basics:

  • Portion-controlled containers (bento boxes or glass containers)
  • Mason jars for dressings and overnight oats
  • A dedicated sheet pan for cooking meat
  • Basic mixing bowls
  • Air fryer and Instant Pot (optional but time-saving).

Meal 1: High-Protein Breakfast Tacos

"These breakfast tacos alone give you 20 grams of protein, which is absolutely amazing for starting your day," Katie notes. Her recipe combines eggs and egg whites for balanced protein and healthy fats. "We're going to do eggs and egg whites, and this is gonna really help balance out so you're not getting too much fat per serving," she explains. She adds turkey sausage and sneaks in spinach for extra nutrients. The tacos can be made with either grain-free or corn tortillas, depending on your preferences. "You can obviously do anything with this, but it's just kind of the easiest way to make a bunch all at once," Katie shares.

Meal 2: Protein-Packed Loaded Caesar Salad

Katie's reinvented Caesar salad starts with perfectly cooked chicken breast. Her secret? "Non-fat Greek yogurt, which is super high in protein. It's going to help lock in a bunch of the moisture for our meal prep chicken," she reveals. The chicken is seasoned with an Italian blend and extra garlic, then baked at 450°F for about 20 minutes. For the dressing, Katie creates a protein-rich alternative: "This is truly the simplest caesar-style dressing you could make without all the fats, but still tasting rich and creamy." The dressing combines Greek yogurt, lemon, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. She adds chickpeas for additional protein and carrots for crunch instead of traditional croutons.

Meal 3: Quick High-Protein Stir-Fry

The dinner prep focuses on a flavorful ground beef stir-fry. "I'm using 85/15 lean ground beef, so I don't really need to add any oils because it's going to have them in there naturally," Katie explains. Her homemade sauce combines coconut oil, amino acids (or coconut aminos), toasted sesame oil, and sriracha. "I avoid buying teriyaki sauce because they're loaded with sugars," she notes. The rice is cooked in bone broth instead of water: "It's those little sneaky ways you can get in more protein. It's going to add a little bit of calories, but honestly who cares - you're getting good healthy protein, all the nutrients and minerals."

Meal 4: Chocolate Chunk Overnight Oats

"What I like about doing overnight oats is you can make it hot or cold," Katie shares. Her protein-rich snack combines oats with chocolate protein powder and almond milk. "You could do chia seeds as well if you'd prefer those," she suggests. For added flavor and nutrients, she tops each portion with banana and peanut butter. "These are actually like a really good size and you're still gonna get a decent amount of protein in them," she explains. The recipe provides about 20 grams of protein per serving.

Time-Saving Strategies

Katie's efficient approach includes:

  • Starting with the longest-cooking items first
  • Using multiple cooking methods simultaneously
  • Preparing sauces while other items cook
  • Immediate portioning into containers.

Storage Tips for Success

"I like dressing them later, not ahead of time," Katie advises about salads. She recommends storing dressings and sauces separately in small mason jars, adding them just before eating to maintain freshness. For the breakfast tacos, she recommends thinking of them like street tacos - smaller portions that are satisfying and protein-rich. With salads, she suggests: "You can go wild obviously with as much greens if you're like I need to pack it in." For the stir-fry, she recommends about a half cup of rice per container, adding the sauce just before eating.

Collagen Coffee

“Every day for me starts with coffee plus collagen,” she says in the post. She claims that the collagen she uses “has a compound that promotes skin elasticity and firmness and I do feel like it’s helped my skin bounce back from weight loss over the past four years,” she says.

She Doesn’t Starve Herself

“Gone are the days where I believed I had to STARVE myself and be SKINNY. These days, I know we have to FUEL our bodies to get STRONG,” she writes. “I make a point to prioritize protein and lately I’ve been keeping a close eye on my fiber intake as well. My fiber on this day was 29g. (A good general recommendation is to shoot for about 25g) I hear from a lot of you that having more meal ideas is important so I hope this helps!”

Other Habits Helped Her Lose Weight

In another post, she reveals a few of the other habits that helped her get into the best shape of her life. “My Midlife Sisters!! The plan has changed! We’re not chasing skinny anymore…we’re going for STRENGTH now. Here’s the plan: First, we’re BELIEVING it’s possible for us to become fitter than ever in midlife. (It is!!) This all starts with belief,” she says.

Strength Trainings

Another habit that helped her get into great shape was strength training. “We’re switching from prioritizing cardio to lifting weights,” she says in the post. She recommends two to three times a week – or more – to get the best results.

And, Changing Her Mindset

Nutrition was also key. “We’re going to eat more protein…a lot more! Our target is about 1g protein per pound of your ideal bodyweight per day. We’re understanding the right amounts and combinations of foods to get us to our physique goals. Tracking macros is the way!” she says. However, she also make mental shifts. “We’re not just focusing on physical changes…that’s where we’ve failed in the past. We’re going for lifelong changes through changing our mindsets, having positive outlooks and creating habits.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Here are 20 ways 12 people who lost over 10 pounds in 4 months achieved their weight loss goals.

Gen Cohen Lost 10 Pounds in 2 Months by Maintaining a Caloric Deficit

In a recent Instagram post, Gen Cohen, CNC, shared how she lost 10lbs in the first two months of her health journey. “What I would do is eat in a modest caloric deficit, which if you're a woman watching this video means you'll probably be eating an average of 1500 to 2000 calories per day in order to lose weight,” she says.

She Also Used an App

Apps also helped Cohen achieve her weight loss goals. “I would download an app like MyFitnessPal and preplan my meals the day before to make sure I was able to hit my calories and my protein goal while still enjoying my social life,” she continued.

And, She Drank A LOT of Water

Another helpful habit in her weight loss was investing in a big water bottle. “I would drink 16 ounces of water before getting out of bed in the morning, which helps regulate your cortisol and stress levels throughout the day,” she says. “And I would also drink 16 ounces of water before each meal. This will help you feel full quicker while you're still learning proper portion control.”

10 weight loss tips

Blake Sanburg (@thenutritionnarc) is a diet and fitness influencer with over 415,900 TikTok followers who lost 23 pounds in two months. His number one tip to lose weight? “Start going to the gym,” Blake suggests. “Do weightlifting and cardio. This will help not only burn calories, but it'll also increase your muscle mass, which will make you seem less fat.”

He Also Avoided “Liquid Calories”

“Number two, avoid liquid calories such as sugary drinks, alcohol, soda, and stuff like that instead of diet soda,” Blake continued. “These are scientifically proven to be the easiest calories to cut out.”

He Amped Up His Protein Intake

Blake also amped up his protein intake. “The general rule of thumb is one gram of protein per pound of body weight. So if your goal weight is 150 pounds, try to eat 150 grams of protein.”

Cam Jones Lost 10 Pounds in 50 Days by Rigorously Tracking His Eating Habits

Cam Jones, one half of the brother influencer duo who make up Goal Guys, a YouTube account providing “different goals in fitness and productivity,” revealed in a viral video how he lost 10 pounds in 50 days.

“I genuinely do not understand how I've put on so much weight. I eat pretty healthy. I exercise two to three times a week, so what am I doing wrong?” he says in the video, setting a goal of losing 10 pounds of body fat in 50 days. Cam starts with a goal of “paying careful attention” to nutrition.

“The first thing I'm aiming for a daily calorie goal of just 1900 calories, and as crazy as it is to say I actually think my current diet is pretty healthy, so I'm also going to track every food I eat for the next 50 days to figure out where I've been going wrong,” he says

He Also Cut Snacks

Unsweetened,Baking,Block,Chocolate,,Cocoa,Powder,And,Cocoa,Beans,Shutterstock

Cam points out that the little snacks you eat in the day add up. Just three squares of dark chocolate, half a bag of popcorn in one glass of wine total 660 calories. “I was severely underestimating how many calories were in those snacks because I was having those four times a week,” he says, pointing out “that's an extra 2,400 calories per week. That's more than I'm going to eat today. So no wonder I was putting on weight even though I was exercising.”

Melissa maintains that dropping the weight is simple. “The easiest way to lose water weight, okay, listen up, is by switching up your diet,” she maintains. “Water retention happens when we're consuming too much sodium in our diet,” she continues. “Therefore, if you're eating a lot of overly processed foods such as pizza, frozen foods, prepackaged foods or going out and eating at a restaurant where they usually cook most foods with vegetable oils, your body is going to obtain more water.”

A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure and fewer strokes.

Nour T (@nourrtann/) lost a whopping 40 pounds in just five months with one simple habit. In one of her viral videos, she reveals that no matter what diet you want to go on, simply eating less will result in weight loss. “One thing I will say: Keto, paleo, Atkins, high protein, low fat, low carb, whatever it is, they all work. They all work because you're probably eating less,” she continues. “And also, please remember that eating healthy and eating to lose weight are completely different things.”

She Also Started Volume Eating

“In my opinion, the most sustainable way to lose weight without tracking calories or stressing out is volume eating. Volume eating is in no means a diet plan. It is actually just a technique,” Nour continues. “You're basically mainly eating large amounts of low-calorie foods, so some examples of that would be like instead of having a cup of rice, you would have a half cup of rice and then a half cup of cauliflower rice,” she says. Another example? “Instead of having a whole serving of pasta, you would split it in half and then have zoodles,” she adds, explaining that you would mix in your cauliflower rice with your rice or zucchini noodles with your noodles. “You're eating the same exact amount as you would've, but the calories you're cut in half, and you're allowing yourself to eat much more vegetables, which are good for you,” she says.

Amber Clemens (@amber_c_fitness) is a weight loss warrior and influencer on TikTok who lost a whopping 160 pounds while still eating fast food. In a viral video, she describes her before meal at Wendy’s: A Four for Four meal with a Junior cheeseburger, four piece chicken nugget, a small fry, “and I would actually order an additional six piece nugget because I wanted 10 and I would get a large root beer and that one meal would be 1,450 calories,” she says, noting “that's not including any dipping sauces that I would get to dip this stuff in, but I couldn't find the nutrition information for that.”

Now, she chooses from two lower calorie alternatives, the apple pecan salad “because it's so filling,” she says. “You get a high volume of food for about 550 calories.” Her other option is a six piece nugget and a small fry paired with a medium light lemonade. “And you can get that meal for 545 calories,” she says. “It's not about cutting things out, it's about finding things that you like equally as much, making swaps in moderation,” she points out. Maintaining a healthy weight can be a challenge, especially when juggling a busy lifestyle. For many, finding nutritious, satisfying meals that support weight loss goals is a constant struggle. Liezl Jayne Strydom, a YouTube influencer with 1.2 million followers, faced this challenge head-on and successfully lost over 40 pounds by transforming her eating habits. Now, she's sharing her weight loss journey and the meal plan that helped her achieve her goals.

The Importance of Protein in Weight Loss

By now, we all know that protein is crucial for a healthy body. But why? "Protein is one of the most important things you need to be eating enough of every single day if you have a goal of weight loss in mind," says Certified clinical nutritionist Autumn Bates.

Liezl echoes this sentiment, adding, "During this time the thing that I really struggled with was finding lower calorie meals that were still balanced with all the food groups and that didn't leave me feeling hungry."

Calculating Your Protein Needs

Bates recommends a simple formula for determining your daily protein intake: "Multiply your weight in pounds by .73 to find out how much protein to take in every day." For example, a 150-pound person would need about 109.5 grams of protein daily for weight loss. Liezl adds, "If you ate all of this [in her meal plan], you'd be getting more than a hundred grams of protein for the day."

Start Your Day with a Protein-Packed Breakfast

Liezl kicks off her day with a simple yet nutritious breakfast. "I'm starting with two eggs, but you can also use a vegan egg replacer," she explains. Her spinach fried eggs on toast take just five minutes to prepare. Bates supports this choice, saying, "I usually like to eat three eggs and pair it with a little bit of cheese to help boost the protein content a little bit."

Boost Your Morning with a Protein-Rich Coffee

To complement her breakfast, Liezl prepares an easy iced coffee. "It's got seven grams of protein in it, it's only 80 calories, and it's dairy-free," she notes. The recipe includes soy milk for its high protein content and creaminess.

Enjoy a Quick and Nutritious Lunch

For lunch, Liezl opts for a Mexican-inspired black bean salad with tortilla chips. "This is the kind of thing that I would've eaten for lunch a lot when I was trying to lose weight," she recalls. The salad includes cucumber, tomatoes, avocado, black beans, and cilantro, dressed with lime juice and olive oil.

Practice Portion Control

Liezl emphasizes the importance of portion control, even with healthy foods: "You can use about 140 calories worth of tortilla chips, which I find is usually the serving size on most bags of tortilla chips."

Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth with a Protein Smoothie

To curb post-lunch cravings, Liezl recommends her three-ingredient mango protein smoothie. "This is a great pre or post-workout snack if you want that, or just a little sweet tooth satisfier," she says. The smoothie combines frozen mango, protein powder, and almond milk, providing 25 grams of protein.

Prep a Flavorful Dinner for Multiple Meals

Liezl's dinner is a honey chicken dish with rice and green beans, which she meal preps for several days.

"My favorite thing about this meal is that it's amazing meal prep. So what I usually do when I'm making dinner is just make enough for a few servings," she explains.

Bates supports this approach, recommending chicken as a lean protein source: "About three ounces of cooked chicken breast will have around 27 to 28 grams of protein."

Explore Other Protein-Rich Dinner Options

While Liezl focuses on chicken, Bates suggests other protein-rich alternatives. "Three ounces of cooked salmon has about 22 grams of protein," she notes. For red meat lovers, Bates adds, "Three ounces of cooked beef has around 22 grams of protein, and it's so easy to use."

End Your Day with a Light, Protein-Rich Snack

For a late-night snack, Liezl suggests a simple veggie and hummus plate. "This is a high protein, high fiber snack before bed and it's very simple," she says. The snack includes cucumber, snap peas, and a quarter cup of hummus. Bates offers another option: "I love cottage cheese. Just about one cup will have between 24 to 28 grams of protein."

Customize Your Meal Plan

Liezl's meal plan is flexible, ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 calories per day. "To customize this meal plan for 1,200 calories, you can have the breakfast, the lunch, and the dinner, which are all roughly 400 calories. And then just leave out the snacks," she advises. For higher calorie needs, she suggests adding in various snacks and smoothies. Liezl emphasizes, "We're all different. We all need a different amount of calories to lose weight in a healthy way, so I will show you how to do that."

Track Your Progress

Liezl emphasizes the importance of tracking: "All these recipes are going to be on my blog for all these meals and these snacks with all the calories, so you can get that there." This aligns with Bates' recommendation to closely monitor protein intake for optimal weight loss results.

As Liezl says, "Meal prepping doesn't always have to be this big whole thing. You can just do it while you're making dinner anyway. It just makes sense."

The "3 Meals and 3 Snacks" Formula for Success

Liezl's 42-pound weight loss journey was built around a straightforward meal plan:

3 Main Meals:

  1. Breakfast: Spinach fried eggs with toast
  2. Lunch: Mexican-inspired black bean salad with tortilla chips
  3. Dinner: Honey chicken with rice and green beans

3 Snacks:

  1. Protein-rich iced coffee
  2. Mango protein smoothie
  3. Veggie and hummus plate

This "3 Meals and 3 Snacks" approach formed the foundation of her successful weight loss, demonstrating that a balanced, protein-rich diet can lead to significant results without sacrificing variety or satisfaction. Have you been trying to lose weight but been unsuccessful? Sadie Chartrand of Slim Sadie Coaching is a weight loss coach, military spouse, MO, and Registered Nurse (RN) who “helps women who have been battling their bodies and struggling with their weight for their entire lives” get into shape. In a new viral YouTube video, she reveals how she did it. “This is how I lost 80 pounds in just five months,” she says at the start of the clip. “My only hope is to help you all lose weight based on my own experiences.”

She Was “So Heavy” That She Thought She Had a “Disease or Disorder”

“Two weeks before December 13th, 2017, I had decided at some point that the reason that I was so heavy had to be because of some kind of disease or disorder. So I went to the doctor, and I told myself when I went into the doctor's office if all of my results came back negative, I had to lose weight. I have no more excuses. This was December 13th, 2017. I went into the office, and she read my results back to me. Everything was totally normal,” she says in her post.

She Went to a Doctor and Had Her BMR Calculated

“I stuck to my promise to myself, so I asked this doctor to help me lose weight. The first thing that she did was body composition. From that, she showed me what my BMR was, which was basal metabolic rate. And then she explained to me that to lose weight, I needed to eat about 1,157 calories a day, no more than that,” she continued.

She Amped Up Her Protein Intake

She is also excited about her protein intake. “She wanted to make sure that I really increased my protein. So I ate one gram of protein per pound of skeletal muscle that I had, which was about 75 grams of protein per day,” she continues.

She Cut Carbs

She also stopped eating carbs. “At the time, she really cut my carbs out. So I was only eating less than 20 net carbs per day, less than 50 total carbs per day,” she says.

Here Is What She Ate in a Day

She was eating a protein shake for breakfast and a protein shake for lunch. “And these are Premier Protein shakes, pre-made,” she says. “For dinner, I was having four ounces of meat and two cups of vegetables.”

Walking Was Also Key

And, she got her steps in. “As for exercise, all I did was walk,” she says. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

She Lost Weight Fast

When she went in for her two-week checkup “and just to check in to see how things were going,” she learned she had lost 14.7 pounds in just two weeks. “At first, I was so excited, and then everyone said, ‘It's water weight. It's going to come back. Don't get yourself all excited about this.’

She Went on to Lose 80 Pounds in 5 Months

“It never came back. And I continued to lose weight. At the end of the first month. I had lost basically 25 pounds in one month, which was my goal. I just barely miss it by a few ounces. But basically, it was 25 pounds. About two months into my journey, I had lost 40 pounds. And at the end of five months, I had lost 75 pounds. So that's why I say I lost 80 pounds in five months.”

She Gained Some of It Back

Unfortunately, she ended up gaining back 40 of those 80 pounds within a few months. “I got back into it, and I committed again. I lost all of the weight again by May of 2019. Her lowest weight was 180, and she admits that she is now 223.

She Is Now Back on Track and Using These Tips

“I am embarrassed, I'm disappointed. But the most important thing that I have to keep reminding myself is that I've done this not once but twice before. I know how to do this, and I can do it. It's just a matter of convincing myself each and every day to do this. It's been a lot, but it's also been absolutely life-changing for me, and I was really missing out on life. So my motto is losing weight and gaining life.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you making mistakes that are preventing weight loss progress? Helen Laverick is an online coach who helps her clients achieve their best bodies without “cutting out the food you love.” In a new social media post, she reveals some fat-burning faux pas she made in the past. “I would never repeat these 5 mistakes if my goal was to lose body fat and tone up,” she writes in the post.

She Wasted Time and Energy on Mistakes

I’ve been there...wasting time and energy on mistakes that only set me back on my fat loss journey,” she writes. Today, I’m done repeating those errors, and I’m determined never to make them again.

Here Is What She Has Learned

“I know some of you are still caught up in the same traps, so let’s break down what I’ve learned and make real progress together,” she continued. “I would NEVER repeat these 5 mistakes again if I want to lose body fat. I’ve learned the hard way, and here’s what I’m leaving behind.”

Cutting Calories Too Low

The first mistake is cutting calories too low. “I used to think dropping below 1,200–1,500 kcals was the key to fat loss and toning. Jumping straight into a deep cut isn’t sustainable and only sabotages your progress,” she said.

Relying on Cardio as a Magic Fix

Another mistake? Relying on cardio as a magic fix. “I thought endless cardio was the answer to fast results. The truth is, while cardio has its place, it’s the weights that truly transform your body. Resistance training builds lean muscle and revs up your metabolism,” she writes.

Eliminating Entire Food Groups:

Next, she doesn’t recommend eliminating entire food groups. “Labeling foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and cutting out entire food groups led me straight to bingeing. Balance and moderation are the real keys to lasting change gal,” she says.

Training 7 Days a Week

Training every single day is a mistake not to make. “Overtraining isn’t a badge of honor. Rest and recovery are just as important as the workout itself. Your body needs time to rebuild and grow stronger!” she writes.

Treating Carbs as the Enemy

The final mistake? Training every day. “I used to avoid carbs like they were the devil. Now I know that if I want to get toned, I need them as fuel. Carbs are essential for energy and should be part of a balanced diet!” she says.

She Has “Reshaped” Her Approach to Fitness and Nutrition

Her bottom line message? “These lessons have reshaped my approach to fitness and nutrition. Progress isn’t about quick fixes gals it’s about sustainable, balanced habits that support long-term goals. Have you ever watched someone effortlessly knock out a set of push-ups and wondered why you can't do the same? You're not alone. While push-ups are a fundamental exercise, most beginners struggle with proper form and progression. Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, founder of The Fit Father Project and The Fit Mother Project, has helped thousands of people—including those weighing 300-400 pounds—master this essential exercise. Here are the most common mistakes he sees and how to fix them.

Mistake 1: Starting with Wall Push-ups

Many beginners start with wall push-ups, but this common approach is flawed. "Wall push-ups are next to useless for your gaining your progression because they don't really mimic the push-up," Dr. Balduzzi says in his post. While they might work your triceps slightly, they fail to engage your core and chest muscles the way a proper push-up should.

Mistake 2: Skipping Progressive Steps

Jumping straight to floor push-ups is another common error. "You need something that's not so vertical. It needs to be a little more horizontal," Dr. Balduzzi explains. He recommends starting with elevated push-ups using a bench or sturdy surface at hip height, then gradually working your way down to lower heights.

Mistake 3: Neglecting Core Engagement

Many beginners focus solely on arm strength, missing a crucial component of proper push-ups. "Push-ups are a full body motion. It's not just arms and chest," emphasizes Dr. Balduzzi. "Feel your core activate and feel your abs and squeeze your butt. Get your whole body involved."

Mistake 4: Rushing Through Repetitions

"Form and quality is more important than quantity," states Dr. Balduzzi. "You've seen people do some really sloppy push-ups. It's not creating the tension." Instead of racing through repetitions, focus on controlled movements and proper form.

Dr. Balduzzi recommends a systematic approach to mastering push-ups:

1. Start with Elevated Push-ups

Begin with a surface at hip height, focusing on engaging your core and maintaining proper form. Practice for 3-4 minutes daily or every other day.

2. Move to Knee Push-ups

"Knee push-ups are absolutely fantastic. Honestly, they're almost as good as regular push-ups," says Dr. Balduzzi. Use padding under your knees for comfort, and maintain the same core engagement as elevated push-ups.

Progress to Full Push-ups

Once comfortable with knee push-ups, gradually transition by lifting one leg, then both. "Over time, you can take one leg up, you can start coming up. Over time, as you play around, you get that second leg up, and now you've done your first proper push-up," explains Dr. Balduzzi.

Training Schedule for Success

For optimal progress, Dr. Balduzzi recommends practicing push-ups daily or every other day for about five minutes. "Do a set, rest for a minute, maybe a minute and a half. Do another set, rest for a minute," he advises. Track your progress to stay motivated.

Advanced Progression

Once you can perform 10 proper push-ups, introduce tempo training. "A tempo push-up would be... on the way down, we're going to control this descending portion for about three seconds. We're going to do a one second pause at the bottom, then we're going to explode up," describes Dr. Balduzzi.

Remember, there's no shame in starting from zero. "Doing five great knee push-ups are way better than some of those guys you see do sloppy 15 bouncy momentum push-ups," reassures Dr. Balduzzi. Focus on proper form, follow the progression, and you'll be doing push-ups before you know it. Standing in front of your mirror, wondering why the numbers on your scale won't budge? You're not alone. Millions of Americans struggle with weight loss despite their best efforts. "Most everybody struggles with losing weight. It's not a normal natural thing for our bodies, and sometimes we just struggle knowing where to start," says Dr. Erik Richardson, a board-certified family practice physician.

Ready to discover the biggest obstacles to your weight loss journey? Let's count down the top 10 foods you need to eliminate from your diet to see actual results.

10. High-Calorie Coffee Drinks

Your morning coffee run could be sabotaging your weight loss efforts. "A large mocha cookie crumble frappuccino packs 590 calories, 26 grams of fat, and 76 grams of sugar," Dr. Richardson reveals in his post. Stick to simple coffee preparations to save both calories and money.

9. Pizza

"Pizza is just about the perfect combination of carbs and unhealthy fats," Dr. Richardson warns. Its blend of refined flour, processed meats, and high-calorie toppings makes it easy to overeat. Try cauliflower crust alternatives or make healthier versions at home.

8. Ice Cream

ice-creamShutterstock

While small portions can occasionally fit into a healthy diet, ice cream's high calorie and sugar content make it problematic. Dr. Richardson suggests, "Make your own ice cream using less sugar and more natural ingredients, and serve it in a smaller bowl to control portions."

7. Beer and Alcohol

That "beer belly" isn't a myth. "Beer specifically is much like soda or other sugary drinks," Dr. Richardson explains. Its high carbohydrate content triggers insulin response and promotes weight gain. Consider limiting or eliminating alcohol while pursuing weight loss goals.

6. Pastries, Cookies, and Cakes

These sweet temptations are filled with refined sugars, flours, and oils. "Because they're so high in sugars and low in nutrients, you're more likely to get hungry faster after eating them," Dr. Richardson notes. Many store-bought versions also contain harmful trans fats.

5. Fruit Juice

Don't let the "healthy" label fool you. Dr. Richardson cautions, "Even 100% juice can hold you back when trying to lose weight." Without the fiber from whole fruit, your body absorbs the sugars too quickly, leading to insulin spikes and potential weight gain.

4. Candy Bars

These convenient treats are far from innocent. "There aren't many other foods that can pack in as many calories in a small package as you find in a candy bar," says Dr. Richardson. Their strategic placement at checkout counters makes them particularly dangerous for impulse purchases.

3. White Bread

Sliced,White,Bread,And,Butter,Shot,From,A,High,AngleShutterstock

"White bread is essentially a chewable version of sugar drinks," Dr. Richardson explains. The processing strips away fiber and nutrients, leaving you with a product that rapidly converts to sugar in your body. Opt for whole grain alternatives and keep portions modest.

2. Sugary Drinks

Consider this: "One can a day of non-diet soda can put on about 10 pounds in the average person in a year," warns Dr. Richardson. The problem? Your brain doesn't register liquid calories as food, making it easy to overconsume without feeling full.

1. French Fries and Potato Chips

"Nothing beats a fresh McDonald's french fry, but it wreaks havoc on your waistline," Dr. Richardson admits. These popular snacks are calorie bombs that quickly convert to sugar in your body. Research shows that potato chips may contribute more to weight gain per serving than any other food.

The Bottom Line

These foods share common characteristics: they're highly processed, loaded with added sugars, refined flours, and unhealthy fats. Dr. Richardson emphasizes, "The closer you can get to a whole food diet, the better off you're going to do." While complete elimination isn't necessary, these items should rarely appear in your regular diet.Remember to read nutrition labels carefully and avoid foods with added sugars and fats.
