Here's How Rebel Wilson Lost 80 Pounds and What She Eats in a Day to Stay Lean

One of the most challenging parts of losing weight for many dieters is choosing the right foods to buy and meals to make. Shopping and meal prep is enough of a challenge—being prepared will be a total lifesaver and help you check off a few things on your "to-do" list. The good news? You don't have to recreate the wheel to do it. Let's look at someone like Rebel Wilson, who lost 80 pounds. The actress shared her weight-lost journey on social media, and we're here with everything she eats in a day to stay in great shape.
Wilson Embraced Her "Year of Health" Journey

For Wilson, 2020 was all about health and wellness. The celeb posted an Instagram photo taking a stroll on the beach. She captioned her post, "Okay so for me 2020 is going to be called "The Year of Health"—so I put on the athleisure and went out for a walk, deliberately hydrating on the couch right now and trying to avoid the sugar and junk food which is going to be hard after the holidays I've just had but I'm going to do it! Who's with me in making some positive changes this year?"
She Visited a Health Spa

During her experience at an Austrian health spa, Wilson learned all about the power of walking—and it completely transformed her workouts.
"The Austrian doctor said to me, 'Rebel, the best way for you to lose unwanted body fat is just simply walking. Doesn't have to be high-intensity, doesn't have to be uphill, just moderate walking an hour a day. And if you can do that, for you, for your body type, it's, like, the best way to lose unwanted body fat,'" the Bridesmaids star shared on an episode of Apple Fitness+'s Time to Walk audio series.
Her Weight Loss Was Gradual and Walking Made a Major Difference

Wilson's weight loss was gradual—and taking regular walks made all the difference in the world.
"In 2020, I lost weight but very, very gradually," she said. "Sometimes I kicked up things a notch with some workouts and went hard. But, the majority of the work for the year was just doing things like walking for an hour … Sometimes the simplest thing like getting out and walking for an hour a day is the kindest thing to your body, and your body will respond to that."
She Got Her Calories in Check

A crucial change Wilson made in her diet? Getting her calories in check.
"You can't out-train a bad diet, which is something I should have known but didn't really know until this year," Wilson shared during a 2020 Instagram Live (via EatingWell).
The actress used to consume 3,000 or 4,000 calories after an intense workout; during her "Year of Health," Wilson aimed for 1,500 calories or fewer. After losing weight, Wilson tweaked her daily calorie intake to roughly 2,000 to 2,500.
She Consumes a High-Protein Diet

Although Wilson doesn't "eat clean" all the time, she feels like her best self when following a high-protein diet. Foods high in protein—like eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, lean meats, fish, and seafood—promote satiety and help curb cravings.
She Introduced More Snacks Into Her Diet

The actress doesn't deprive herself—which is key for keeping weight off in the long-term. Wilson weaved more snacks into her diet after losing weight, in addition to treating herself to occasional chocolate or ice cream.
She Learned How To "Deal With Her Emotional Eating"

The most major lesson Wilson learned during her health journey was how to effectively deal with emotional eating patterns—"learning to process my emotions and deal with my emotions better," Wilson told Women's Health. She added, "That's what's really changed my life for the better."
