This Is the Exact Daily Routine That Helped Me Lose 50 Pounds, Says Fitness Expert

Walking is a big part of it.

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) has amassed a following on TikTok and Instagram by sharing videos about how she lost 50 pounds. In a recent post, she reveals how. "What I really did to go from 200 to 150 pounds," she writes in the video, showing what she looked like at both weights. "Here's what my daily routine looked like when I was losing weight," she adds in the caption. We also asked The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, to weigh in on her tactics.

Early Morning Walk

Alex gets her first workout of the day in early. "I made it a priority to wake up early I had class/work at 9am so I had to get a walk in before that. My morning walks would usually be quick (10-20min)" she writes. "Early exercise is excellent, but it's not the only time of the day to work out," says Collingwood. "I always tell clients that the best time of the day to work out is when you'll do it! I am an early morning exerciser because the only thing that gets in my way is the alarm clock and hitting snooze. If you try to exercise later in the day, things pop up that might prevent you from getting it in. But if you aren't a morning person then that might not be the best time. Figure out what works for you and schedule it like it's an appointment."

Protein Oats for Breakfast

"After my walk I'd come home and eat protein oats I made it a priority to eat breakfast bc I didn't want to Binge eat later," she continues. "Oats and protein (I am assuming some protein powder or greek yogurt added to oats) is an excellent way to provide high quality whole grain carbs and protein to keep you full longer, as well as recovering from that workout," says Collingwood.

Lunch Followed by Another Walk

For lunch, Alex would eat a wrap, salad, quesadillas, or tacos "and go for another 10-15 min walk after," she says. Collingwood loves the idea of walking again at lunch. "If you can do a 5 minute walk after every meal that is helping that extra glucose get burned off instead of getting stored," she says. "10 to 15 minutes is ideal."

Mini Workouts Throughout the Day

Instead of doing long exercise sessions, Alex opted to do lots of smaller ones. "I broke up my workouts throughout the day bc In my head I was too insecure to go to the gym," she writes.

"You can do 30-60 minutes all at one time, or you can do a few 10-15 minute bouts of exercise throughout the day. Whatever works for you," says Collingwood. "Either way you are raising your metabolism and teaching your body to burn calories."

Three Meals a Day

Alex ate bigger meals so she wouldn't binge. "I prioritized eating 3x a day bc I didn't want to binge eat at night so by eating throughout the day it would curb my nightly binge eating urges," she writes. "Most people eat too little at breakfast and sometimes even lunch and then eat way too much in the evening. Your body will store excess calories as fat no matter what time of the day you eat too much, but we don't move as much in the evening so it is even worse to have big meals later in the day," says Collingwood.
