Are you trying to lose weight with a healthy diet but can’t seem to hit your goals? You could be drinking your calories, says one weight loss warrior. Gabriella Rolocut (@gabbierolocut) is a social media influencer who shares about everything from fashion to weight loss. In fact, she managed to lose 75 pounds in a healthy and sustainable way, sharing tips with her followers. β€œI'm gonna share my biggest weight loss tip on how I was able to go from this to this, losing 75 pounds,” she says at the start of a viral TikTok clip. She has since gone on to lose over 80 pounds.

You Need to Understand How You Are Consuming Your Calories

Gabriella suggests taking a deep look at sneaky calories. β€œMy biggest tip, and I can't stress this enough, is understanding how you're consuming your calories,” she says.

Coffee Drinks Have Lots of Hidden Calories

β€œFor example, we all love Starbucks, we all love Dunkin'. We love our little Pumpkin Spice latte. Our pumpkin spice drinks wanna be very seasonal. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Those drinks have so many calories, and I don't know if anybody's ever looked it up. Sometimes they don't post the calories up on the board next to the drinks, so I'm gonna show you just how many calories you're consuming,” she says.

One Dunkin’ Drink Has 930 Calories

She starts with a pumpkin spice latte. β€œI'm gonna use the Pumpkin Swirl frozen coffee from Dunkin',” she says. β€œThere could be 930 calories in this drink. That's 63% of my daily calories. If I were to drink this in the morning, I'd only have 541 more calories to get me through the rest of the day. There are 185 grams of sugar in this. 46 teaspoons of sugar is equal to 14 glazed donuts. Didn't you much rather eat your calories than drink them in a drink?”

β€œThere are so many different alternatives that you can get from Starbucks, Dunkin', or anywhere that has significantly fewer calories than this one. That you can still have your pumpkin spice while losing weight was the biggest thing for me,” she said.

Calculate Your Maintenance Calories

She recommends β€œtrying to calculate your resting metabolic rate, so how many calories your body's burning at its resting state, and then finding your maintenance calories, so how many calories you should be consuming on a daily basis, just to function as a human being.”

The Only Calories Are From Milk

β€œI asked for light ice, which means they put in more milk. There are more calories from milk. But my only concern here is that I know that none of the calories I'm drinking are coming from a sweetener solely because there is no flavor in it. If you have a lot of weight to lose, it may seem overwhelming. However, one woman claims that she lost 50 pounds just by making a few simple changes to her lifestyle. Dils Lee (@dilshealth) topped the scales at 192 pounds, wearing a size 16, in July 2021. However, she made four lifestyle habit changes, which not only aided in weight loss but were a game-changer in her overall health, reducing her inflammation and balancing her hormones. Here are the changes she made and what the Body Network’s Resident RDN, The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, co-author of the Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies, thinks about them.

She Stopped Drinking Coffee on an Empty Stomach

One of the first changes that she made? β€œI stopped drinking coffee on an empty stomach and started making my breakfast look like this,” she said. β€œDrinking coffee on an empty stomach can lead to bloating, nausea, and anxiety, and it can also raise your cortisol levels, which can negatively impact ovulation weight and hormonal imbalances.”

She Switched From HIIT to Lower Intensity

Dils_Lee_dilshealth3dilshealth/Instagram

The second change that she made β€œwas stopping all high intensity training while I was losing weight,” she said. β€œI found that I harbored a lot of inflammation in my face, arms, body, stomach, and legs everywhere.” Instead, she opted for lower intensity training. β€œBasically, by switching to lower intensity workouts, I've found that my waist has drastically come in. My stomach is much more flat, and I'm actually building a lot of tone and muscle in my arms and legs,” she says.

She Stopped Restricting Food

Dils_Lee_dilshealth2dilshealth/Instagram

β€œThe third thing I stopped doing was restricting food,” she reveals. β€œWhile I was going to the gym, I would sit around 1,000 to 1,200 calories and I would severely restrict my eating. Now I'm up to 1,500 calories, still in a calorie deficit, and focusing on low carb and high protein macros that help nourish and support my body.”

She Focused On Her Sleep Health

β€œThe fourth change that I made is that I introduced a healthy sleep routine,” she reveals. β€œMy routine includes using supplements like magnesium and then not using my phone an hour before bed. Prioritizing sleep will help your body recover after physical activity. It'll also help with hormone regulation, metabolic regulation, stress and emotional wellbeing.”

Body Network's Expert Weighs on Coffee and Exercise

Brewing coffeeShutterstock

β€œHaving breakfast is important to kick start the metabolism for the day and having caffeine along with food can help to reduce the potential negative effects and sharp spike in cortisol that you might get from drinking it alone. Some people do feel nauseous when drinking coffee on an empty stomach, but of course everyone is different with how they react,” says Collingwood about drinking coffee on an empty stomach. As for a mix of high and low intensity exercise, it is β€œbest for weight loss and stress release,” says Collingwood. β€œLower intensity is definitely easier on the body but you also will burn fewer calories than the high intensity exercise.”

Expert Weighs in on Diet and Sleep

Collingwood also agrees that eating too few calories can cause the body to conserve and reduce metabolism, β€œwhich is the opposite of what you are trying to do when trying to lose weight,” she says. β€œFinding that healthy balance of a deficit of calories but not too strict is key.” And she agrees that β€œsleep is absolutely essential to recovery of your muscles and tissues but also to help with controlling appetite and various hormones.”

Sadie Chartrand of Slim Sadie Coaching is a weight loss coach, military spouse, MO, and Registered Nurse (RN) who β€œhelps women who have been battling their bodies and struggling with their weight for their entire lives” get into shape. In a new viral YouTube video, she reveals how she did it. β€œThis is how I lost 80 pounds in just five months,” she says at the start of the clip. β€œMy only hope is to help you all lose weight based on my own experiences.”

She Was β€œSo Heavy” That She Thought She Had a β€œDisease or Disorder”

β€œTwo weeks before December 13th, 2017, I had decided at some point that the reason that I was so heavy had to be because of some kind of disease or disorder. So I went to the doctor, and I told myself when I went into the doctor's office if all of my results came back negative, I had to lose weight. I have no more excuses. This was December 13th, 2017. I went into the office, and she read my results back to me. Everything was totally normal,” she says in her post.

She Went to a Doctor and Had Her BMR Calculated

β€œI stuck to my promise to myself, so I asked this doctor to help me lose weight. The first thing that she did was body composition. From that, she showed me what my BMR was, which was basal metabolic rate. And then she explained to me that to lose weight, I needed to eat about 1,157 calories a day, no more than that,” she continued.

She Amped Up Her Protein Intake

She is also excited about her protein intake. β€œShe wanted to make sure that I really increased my protein. So I ate one gram of protein per pound of skeletal muscle that I had, which was about 75 grams of protein per day,” she continues.

She Cut Carbs

She also stopped eating carbs. β€œAt the time, she really cut my carbs out. So I was only eating less than 20 net carbs per day, less than 50 total carbs per day,” she says.

Here Is What She Ate in a Day

She was eating a protein shake for breakfast and a protein shake for lunch. β€œAnd these are Premier Protein shakes, pre-made,” she says. β€œFor dinner, I was having four ounces of meat and two cups of vegetables.”

Walking Was Also Key

And, she got her steps in. β€œAs for exercise, all I did was walk,” she says. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

She Lost Weight Fast

When she went in for her two-week checkup β€œand just to check in to see how things were going,” she learned she had lost 14.7 pounds in just two weeks. β€œAt first, I was so excited, and then everyone said, β€˜It's water weight. It's going to come back. Don't get yourself all excited about this.’

She Went on to Lose 80 Pounds in 5 Months

β€œIt never came back. And I continued to lose weight. At the end of the first month. I had lost basically 25 pounds in one month, which was my goal. I just barely miss it by a few ounces. But basically, it was 25 pounds. About two months into my journey, I had lost 40 pounds. And at the end of five months, I had lost 75 pounds. So that's why I say I lost 80 pounds in five months.”

She Gained Some of It Back

Unfortunately, she ended up gaining back 40 of those 80 pounds within a few months. β€œI got back into it, and I committed again. I lost all of the weight again by May of 2019. Her lowest weight was 180, and she admits that she is now 223.

She Is Now Back on Track and Using These Tips

β€œI am embarrassed, I'm disappointed. But the most important thing that I have to keep reminding myself is that I've done this not once but twice before. I know how to do this, and I can do it. It's just a matter of convincing myself each and every day to do this. It's been a lot, but it's also been absolutely life-changing for me, and I was really missing out on life. So my motto is losing weight and gaining life.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Cam starts with a goal of β€œpaying careful attention” to nutrition.

β€œThe first thing I'm aiming for a daily calorie goal of just 1900 calories, and as crazy as it is to say I actually think my current diet is pretty healthy, so I'm also going to track every food I eat for the next 50 days to figure out where I've been going wrong,” he says

That's more than I'm going to eat today. So no wonder I was putting on weight even though I was exercising.”

β€œIn my opinion, the most sustainable way to lose weight without tracking calories or stressing out is volume eating. Volume eating is in no means a diet plan. It is actually just a technique,” Nour continues. β€œYou're basically mainly eating large amounts of low-calorie foods, so some examples of that would be like instead of having a cup of rice, you would have a half cup of rice and then a half cup of cauliflower rice,” she says. Another example? β€œInstead of having a whole serving of pasta, you would split it in half and then have zoodles,” she adds, explaining that you would mix in your cauliflower rice with your rice or zucchini noodles with your noodles. β€œYou're eating the same exact amount as you would've, but the calories you're cut in half, and you're allowing yourself to eat much more vegetables, which are good for you,” she says.

Something I still struggle with after losing 160 pounds ❀️ #weightloss #weightlossstruggle #growingupfat #beforeandafter #fatphobia #thinprivilege

Amber Clemens (@amber_c_fitness) is a weight loss warrior and influencer on TikTok who lost a whopping 160 pounds while still eating fast food. In a viral video, she describes her before meal at Wendy’s: A Four for Four meal with a Junior cheeseburger, four piece chicken nugget, a small fry, β€œand I would actually order an additional six piece nugget because I wanted 10 and I would get a large root beer and that one meal would be 1,450 calories,” she says, noting β€œthat's not including any dipping sauces that I would get to dip this stuff in, but I couldn't find the nutrition information for that.”

Now, she chooses from two lower calorie alternatives, the apple pecan salad β€œbecause it's so filling,” she says. β€œYou get a high volume of food for about 550 calories.” Her other option is a six piece nugget and a small fry paired with a medium light lemonade. β€œAnd you can get that meal for 545 calories,” she says. β€œIt's not about cutting things out, it's about finding things that you like equally as much, making swaps in moderation,” she points out. Are your unhealthy habits preventing you from losing weight? According to one expert, you should take a look at yours. Fitness and nutrition coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) has amassed a following on TikTok and Instagram by sharing videos about losing 40 pounds. In a recent video, she reveals a few bad habits that she ditched to achieve weight loss success finally. β€œ5 things I stopped doing to lose 40lbs,” she writes in the post.

She Stopped Following Trends

Just because it’s trendy doesn’t mean it will help you lose weight. β€œI stopped following trends,” Alex revealed. β€œThese days, whether it’s running, Pilates Princess is all a trend. You can do it all. The secret is finding what works for you and sticking to it,” she says in her post.

She Stopped Snacking on β€œEverything in Sight”

Snacking isn’t always bad. However, it can be. β€œI stopped snacking on everything in sight. I used to be the person who would have a bite of everything. Little did I know it adds up quickly,” Alex writes.

She Stopped Being Lazy

Sedentary behavior won’t help you lose weight, says Alex. β€œI stopped being lazy. I simply began walking everywhere, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, etc,” she reveals.

She Stopped Setting Strict Goals

Are your diet and fitness goals too rigid? β€œI stopped having strict goals. I used to think I could lose 2 lbs a week consistently. But realistically, your weight will fluctuate, and setting weight goals puts way too much pressure on me,” she writes.

She Stopped Restricting Herself

Crash diets and avoiding food you actually like aren’t the key to losing weight, according to the influencer. β€œI stopped restricting myself and learned how to have portion control. Enjoy dessert in moderation,” she says.

She β€œAte the Same Meals Every Single Day”

So, what did she eat to lose weight? β€œFor 1-2 months, I ate the same meals every single day. Why? Because I was confused, I didn’t know what to eat or where to start, so I ate the same thing every day,” Alexandra confessed in another post.

Here Is Her Weight Loss Breakfast

On her weight loss journey, Alex had two breakfast options. One β€œwould always be oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder and brandy butter,” she reveals. The second? Eggs with turkey bacon, veggies, and a bagel.

Here Is Her Weight Loss Lunch

You don’t have to stick to salads to lose weight, according to Alex. β€œI’d usually eat some type of wrap/ sandwich. I’d add mayo, turkey, ham, salami, cheese, and a bunch of veggies,” she writes.

Here Are Her Weight Loss Snacks

Alexandra had a few go-to snacks while losing weight. β€œI’d have a protein bar, protein shake, fruit, yogurt bowls, bagels with cream cheese, snack plates, and anything I was craving that day. I just made sure it was a decent portion,” she says.

Here Is Her Weight Loss Dinner

For dinner, while losing weight, she β€œwould switch things up” and gravitated toward bowls. She would β€œadd a bunch of lettuce, rice and either ground turkey, chicken, ground beef, any kind of protein and I’d add toppings like tortilla chips, Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, salsa, cheese ugh they’re so good and so filling,” she says. Do you want to lose weight by incorporating a few healthy habits into your routine? Monica is a registered nurse and MASM CPT certified personal trainer who shares her body transformation on social media. In a few recent posts, she reveals the simple habits that enabled her to achieve her fat loss goals and transform her body. β€œAfter I gained a bunch of weight from unhealthy habits and an antidepressant medication I was on. It was one of the lowest points I’ve been in my fitness journey ever. Although these results did not happen overnight, I started noticing quick and rapid results when I started doing the following,” she writes in one of them.

LISS Cardio

The first habit she incorporated was LISS (low intensity stead state cardio), β€œthe most efficient method of cardio to reduce fat,” she writes. β€œThe idea here is that you keep your heart rate in your β€œfat burning zone” which is about 65%-75% of your max heart rate. I would do a 45 min brisk walk everyday or a low speed on the stair stepper for example!”

Drink Water

Her next healthy habit? Hydration. β€œDrink your water! Once I started drinking enough water I felt my false hunger cues start to go away. This is because our bodies sometimes have a hard time differentiating between hunger and thirst. Keep yourself hydrated to be more in tune with when you are actually hungry,” she writes.

Take Progress Photos

Taking progress photos is helpful. β€œOn days you feel like quitting and like you look the same or don’t feel much different, you can look at the pictures from where you started,” she explains. β€œYou will see all the changes that have happened gradually over time. This will prevent you from quitting and ending up back at square one all over again.”

Lift Weights

She also recommends weight training. β€œBut do it right! Time under tension will always beat amount of weight lifted in my person opinion,” she explains. β€œWhen you focus on time under tension (slowing down your movements and controlling them) you are putting more stress on the muscle. When you lift so heavy that you can’t slow and control your movements, momentum comes more into play and you may not be getting the max benefits of an exercise. It may also cause the movement to not target the muscles you wanted and engage surround muscles to help compensate for loading too much weight.”

Get Enough Sleep

In another post, she reveals other healthy habits that helped her lose weight. β€œI started getting enough sleep,” she says. Initially, she was going to the gym 7 days a week and only getting 4 to 6 hours of sleep a week. β€œAllow your body to rest and recover with a good 7-8 hours of sleep (yes that means sometimes skipping your 5am gym session when you know you need REST),” she writes.

Eat Less Processed Foods

Eating less processed foods also made a big difference. β€œI dare you to Yuka app half the things in your refrigerator/ pantry. There is so much extra πŸ’© in our food! I try to eat minimally processed foods now (more lean meats, veggies and fruit),” she writes.

Stop Ego Lifting

β€œStop ego lifting,” she continues. β€œIf you are training for aesthetics you need to be slowing down and controlling your movements to really engage the muscles you are targeting in each exercise.”

Find Your Maintenence Calories

And, last but not least, find your maintenance calories before you bulk or cut. β€œYou need to know your body and where you’re starting before you significantly add/ subtract food to your diet. I went from eating probably about 1600-1700 calories a day straight into 2400. NOT SMART. That is not a proper reverse diet. Don’t make my mistake because it did way more harm than good!” she says. Coach Reveals the 5 Basics of Weight Loss

Are you trying to lose weight? There’s a good chance you are overcomplicated it, according to one expert. Riva Siggins is an online coach who β€œloves food and movement.” She regularly shares tips on the best ways to burn fat and build muscle with her hundreds of thousands of followers. In a new post, she breaks down how to keep weight loss simple. β€œThese tips may sound simple but often fat loss is over complicated. Nail the basics and you’ll get results,” she writes.

Eat Lots of Protein

Her first tip has to do with diet. β€œMake protein your best friend,” she writes. β€œNot only will it help you retain more muscle as you lose body fat which will contribute to a leaner physique but it is also the most filling macronutrient so will be sticking to a deficit easier.” To get enough protein she adds a scoop of protein powder to her oats so she starts the day with 20 grams. β€œUtilise lean protein sources as well such as chicken breast, beef mince, turkey means and white fish,” she says.

Prioritize Sleep

Next, get enough rest. β€œStop underestimating how important sleep is. Lack of sleep can increase hunger as your hormones ghrelin and leptin which send signals to your brain telling you when you’re hungry/satiated don’t work as efficiently when you’re sleep deprived and this can result in your feeling hungrier, food focus being higher and more cravings which can make sticking to a deficit a LOT harder,” she writes.

Lift Weights and Do Cardio

Next, prioritize weight training while utilizing cardio β€œas a tool instead of solely doing cardio,” she explains. β€œWeight training will help you maintain more muscle so as you drop body fat you won’t just get smaller and flatter, you’ll maintain shape and have a lean, strong looking physique. Cardio can be utilized to help increase your output but if you just do cardio you’ll lose a lot of muscle which you don’t want.”

Consume Whole Foods

Next, prioritize whole foods. β€œ200 calories of potatoes is going to give you a lot more volume compared to 200 calories or chocolate, include the foods you enjoy in moderation of course as this’ll help you stick to it but if you’re sensible with your food selection you’re going to feel like you’re eating a lot and by prioritizing food sources such as complex carbs, lean protein and fruit/veg you will be left feeling fuller for longer too,” she says.

Take It One Day at a Time

Her last tip to simplify weight loss? β€œOne day at a time,” she suggests. β€œIf you go over your calories or have a day where you fall off track so what? Just pick yourself up a go day, it isn’t about perfection every day it’s about consistency over time.” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss12-3-30 Walking Method: 20 Proven Tips to Lose Weight Faster.

Do you want to lose weight fast while healing your gut? Amanda Borchardt is a cortisol expert and coach who lost 35 pounds when she finally β€œcracked the code” to cortisol and adopted certain habits that helped her keep her hormones under control. In a new social media post, she reveals five habits that enabled her to lose weight fast and transform her look. β€œHow to become unrecognizable in the next 6 months,” she writes across the video. β€œI started with these habits and a cortisol balancing, gut healing supplement that helped me lose 35 pounds in 4 months and gained back all my lost energy from high cortisol!” she added.

Hydrate

Her first habit has to do with hydration. β€œDrink your body weight in ounces,” she writes. How much water should you drink? According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids daily and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters). The Mayo Clinic explains that hydration helps eliminate waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature regular, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Walk and Lift Weights

Her second habit is two different workouts. β€œ10,000 Steps per day & lifting,” she says. A 2018 study published in Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes. As for strength training, Mayo Clinic explains that it can help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. It may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Amp Up Your Protein Intake

Also, amp up your protein intake. β€œIncrease your protein intake to (30 to 40g per meal),” she suggests. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

No Processed Food or Sugar

When it comes to diet, it’s not just about how many calories you eat, but what types of food, she says. β€œCut out processed food/sugar,” she writes. Examples include anything made with white flour or sugar, packaged snacks, candy, or fast food.

Walk Barefoot Outside

Her fifth tip is unconventional. β€œWalk outside barefoot & daily get sunlight,” she writes. Vitamin D helps cells in your gut absorb bone-healthy nutrients calcium and phosphorus.

Consume Gut-Healing Herbs

Her last tip is to β€œadd in natural herbs that not only heal your gut but help balance your cortisol,” she writes. β€œWhen I added it in the correct supplements, my weight loss journey skyrocketed after years of not being able to lose anything!” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss40 Health Symptoms That Can Be More Serious Than You Think.
