Woman Drops 80 Pounds in 3 Years Using These 10 Simple Food Rules

One weight loss warrior opens up about how she dropped weight fast.

MishLove_mishlovee3

Are you looking for some easy but effective weight loss tips? MishLove is a weight loss enthusiast who “lost 80 pounds naturally” and regularly shares tips on how she did it. In a recent viral video, she discusses how to lose weight fast. “I lost 80 pounds. I've been able to keep it off for three years,” she says. “I'm going to show you what I did at the beginning of my journey to get fast results, to keep me motivated to lose 80 pounds and keep it off for three years.”

Create a Weekly Food Plan

The first tip is to create a weekly food plan. “You need to know exactly what you're going to eat for the entire week. You need to know exactly what you're going to eat every single day, Monday through Friday, from your dinner to your snack, to your lunch, if you're going to make another snack dinner, how much water you're going to drink, if you're going to drink any tea,” she says in her post. She doesn’t prep meals, but she still makes sure she knows what she will eat and has everything she needs to make it. “Stick to the script, and I promise you it's going to work. If it's not on the list for that day, you do not eat it. Period. Point blank.”

Stop Eating When You Are Full

Tip number two is to stop eating when you are full. “No more overeating when you are full. You save it for later and go about your day,” she says. “I don't care how much your body craves it. Do not eat the food. Save it for later. You're not starving yourself. Once your body is satisfied, you're done.”

Stop Eating Empty Calories

Tip number three is to stop eating empty calories. “Stop eating things that are low in protein, low in fiber, high in bad carbs, high in sugar. Eat intentionally. Eat things that are low in sugar, high in protein, high in fiber, and have no bad carbs. They are a little bad carbs and a little processed foods. Eat things that are going to help you on your fitness journey, such as a high fiber, high protein diet, which is going to take your weight loss journey to the next level,” she says.

4. Move Your Body More

Tip number four is moving your body more. “The perfect weight loss duo is eating less than what you're currently eating now and moving your body more than what you're currently doing. Now, those two together are going to take your body to the next level a lot faster than just doing, working ou,t or just eating properly. You want to do them together,” she says.

Drink Apple Cider Vinegar Drink in the Morning

Los Angeles, CA/USA 07/20/2019 Shoppers hand holding a bottle of Bragg brand organic raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a supermarket aisleShutterstock

“Tip number five is going to be drinking this every single morning on an empty stomach,” she says. It consists of six ounces of water, two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, a hint of cayenne pepper, and half a lemon. “It is not gonna taste that good, but it's amazing for your gut,” she says. “It's going to help you with bloating, and it aids in weight loss. So drink that every single morning. I was very consistent with drinking when I first started my weight loss journey. That's going to take you to another level, trust me. Please be consistent with that.”

Stop Drinking Sugary Drinks

Soft drinks and fruit juice mixed with soda high in sugar have a negative effect on physical healthShutterstock

Tip number six: stop drinking sugary drinks. “I was very good at this in the beginning. I always read the back of the labels of the drinks, and if there were anything more than five grams of sugar in them, I would not drink it at all. It was just way too much. Even now, to this day, I really do not drink anything that has more than five grams of sugar. For one, it is just way too sweet for me now. But reduce your sugary drink intake dramatically.”

Reduce Condiment Intake

Tip seven: you're reducing your intake of condiments that are high in sugar and high in calories. “For example, if you want barbecue sauce and you want to do Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce with no sugar,” she says. “You're going to have to start looking at the labels and seeing how much sugars are in these sauces and how many calories because they do add up. Also, do not drown your salads in ranch or whatever salad dressing you're using. Your salad should not be white.”

Only Eat When You Are Hungry

Close up of young businessman eating rib steak on wooden tray at restaurant.Shutterstock

Tip eight is understanding that it is okay to eat only when you are hungry. “Some days, you're going to want all your meals and all your snacks you have planned out. And then, some days you're only going to want two meals and one snack. Both days are okay. Do not force yourself to eat. But what you don't want to do is starve yourself. You never wanna miss out on a meal because you're trying to save calories,” she says. “All that's going to do is create a negative weight loss experience, and then you're going to gain the weight back.”

Start the Day with a High Protein Meal

A close up of soft boiled eggsShutterstock

Tip number nine is starting your day off with a high-protein meal. “It's going to keep you full longer. It was a staple when I first started. I do it now to this day. You want to make sure that your eating protein in the morning is going to keep you full. So, just carbs are not going to do it. Just fiber is not going to do it. Eat some protein,” she says.

Drink Ginger and Mint Tea Daily

Her last tip is to drink ginger and mint tea every single day. “Trust me, it's amazing for your skin, amazing for your gut. You can drink it multiple times a day, or you can just drink it once a day, but drink it after a meal, and you're going to feel great right after,” she says. Are you trying to lose weight but need some tips? Mahtab Ekay is a fat loss coach and social media influencer who lost over 20 pounds and helps others do the same. In a new Instagram post, she reveals some of her weight loss secrets. “8 calorie deficit tips you need to know if you are going to be successful with losing weight,” she writes in the video. “I have lost 20 pounds in less than 3 months, and here are my top 8 tips that will help you get better results easier and faster.”

Amp Up Your Fiber Intake

Her first tip is to eat at least 20-25g of fiber every day. “Fiber helps keep you satiated and aids in digestion. Include foods like fruits (apples, berries), vegetables (broccoli, carrots), legumes (beans, lentils), and whole grains (oats, quinoa) in your diet,” she writes.

Drink at least Half Your Weight in Pounds in Ounces of Water

Next, she recommends drinking at least half your body weight in pounds in ounces of water daily, or “ideally” two-third of her weight. “Staying hydrated is crucial for overall health and can help control hunger. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, aim to drink 75 ounces of water daily,” she writes.

Eat 0.8 Grams of Protein Per Pound of Ideal Body Weight

Next, eat 0.8g of protein per pound of your ideal body weight. “Protein keeps you full longer and helps preserve and build muscle mass, which is essential for a toned, strong look. Include protein sources like chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, and legumes in your meals,” she says.

Gradually Increase Your Daily Steps

Next, amp up your steps! “Aim to consistently hit 8,000-12,000 steps every day. Start with small goals and increase your steps over time to boost your overall activity level,” she writes.

Lift Weights

Strength training is also key. She recommends lifting weights 3 to 5 times a week. “Weight lifting yields better results when following a structured program focused on progressive overload. This means gradually increasing the weights you lift to continuously challenge your muscles,” she writes.

Incorporate Low-Calorie, High-Volume Foods

She also recommends incorporating low-calorie, high-volume foods into your diet. “Foods like popcorn, strawberries, and other berries are high in nutrition and low in calories. They help you feel full without consuming too many calories,” she writes.

Stop Snacking

Next, stop snacking. “Have sweets or treats as dessert after your main meals to help control cravings. This strategy helps prevent mindless snacking throughout the day,” she says.

Sleep More Than 6 Hours

Her last tip is to sleep more than 6 hours. “This is one of the most underrated tips. Sleep deficiency can disrupt hunger hormones, making it harder to stay in a calorie deficit due to increased cravings and potential binge eating. Aim for at least 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, don't missI’m a Nutritionist and Here Are 25 Weight Loss Truths You Need to Hear.

Are you struggling to lose weight? According to an expert, you should enforce a straightforward food rule. Jess Dukes is a weight loss coach specializing in helping “busy moms lose weight for the last time,” she writes in her social media bio. In a new post, she reveals a rule she set for herself that was a significant game-changer on her weight loss journey. “I lost 80 pounds, here is the only food rule I followed,” she writes.

Her Food Rule Is: There Are No Off Limit Foods

The answer? “There are no off limit foods,” she writes. “For years, I labeled foods as ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ And if it was ‘bad,’ I wanted it even more. I’d tell myself, ‘No, you can’t have that.’ But that only made the craving stronger. Eventually, I’d cave, overeat, and drown in guilt. Sound familiar?”

No One Food Can Ruin Your Progress

Here’s what I learned the hard way: No single food can ruin your progress—unless you let it. Once I stopped labeling foods, everything changed. I started eating the foods I love in a way that actually feels good. Yes, that includes pizza nights with my family and dessert whenever I truly want it.

When You Allow Yourself to Eat What You Want, You Will Stop Craving It

“At first, I was scared. I thought, ‘If I allow myself treats, I’ll never stop.’ But guess what? The opposite happened. When I gave myself permission to eat what I wanted, I realized I didn’t crave treats as much as I thought. Sometimes, I’d take a bite and think, ‘I don’t even want this right now.’ Turns out, it wasn’t the food I’d been craving—it was the freedom to stop feeling so restricted,” she says.

No Off-Limit Foods

She explains how she approaches food now, starting with no off-limit foods. “The more you restrict something, the more you want it. Instead, enjoy what you love mindfully and without guilt,” she says.

Plan Treats Intentionally

Next, she is intentional about treat planning. “When you know you can have that brownie on Friday, there’s no need to binge on it today. And ask yourself—are you eating it because you truly want it, or because you’re stressed?” she writes.

Change the Language You Use Around Food

Changing the language you use around food is also key. “Stop calling foods ‘cheats’ or ‘bad.’ Food is just food. Some fuel your body, some fuel your soul—both have their place,” she says.

Focus on How Foods Make You Feel

Focus on how foods make you feel. “Pay attention to how you feel after you eat. Choose foods that leave you feeling energized and satisfied—not sluggish or stuffed,” she says.

You Can Achieve Food Freedom Too

“By letting go of restrictions and tuning into what my body really needs, I built a healthier relationship with food—one that lets me enjoy life and hit my goals. If you’re stuck in the cycle of restriction, know this: You can break free,” she concludes. Indya Ago Lost 120 Pounds by Learning How to Have a “Balanced” Approach to Food

@indyaagos

Something I tell my clients when they first start coaching with me is that in order for these results to be sustainable we have to create balance. when I first started my weight loss journey, I used to restrict myself so much, I would demonize so many different kinds of foods that diet culture had brainwashed me, and into believing were the reason why I wasn’t able to reach the results I was looking for. Which just led me to cycles of binging, and creating a very unhealthy relationship between nutrition and my body. Through proper education on macronutrients, I was able to heal this relationship. And this is how I help my clients and maintain their goals as well. Education is power. WIEIAD DEETS: 💚 breakfast: protein, pancakes, egg, white scramble, turkey bacon 💚 snack: fruit, salad, and protein smoothie 💚 lunch: birria tacos + veg 💚 dinner: seafood boil Babe, if you’re ready to finally create a lifestyle transformation that’s sustainable while still eating all of the foods that you enjoy, I would love to work with you. She “Started Slow” and Learned “Self-Trust”

@indyaagos

If you wanna lose 80 pounds next year, I’m gonna tell you exactly how to do it! No gatekeeping the secret to success here. The number one thing that you need to get clear on, is the amount of time it’s going to take you to achieve your goal, the amount of effort required for you to get there, and, of course, why it’s so important to you. Setting a realistic expectation for yourself, while also simultaneously connecting with your why is the first step to create the foundation. You need to be successful through 2024. When you understand that this journey is going to take time, it’s going to require sacrifice, it’s going to require you stepping so far out of your comfort zone, that you may be paralyzed by fear at times. But being okay with the discomfort. Surrendering to knowing that in those moments of uncertainty, in those moments of insecurity, and discomfort, are facilitating growth. Connecting with knowing that, allowing yourself to grow, is what is going to help you reach your goals. And not only reach your goals, sustain those achievements. Baby, 2024 can be your year, and the first thing that you need to do, is get your mindset right. Know why you’re on this journey, know what you need to do to get from point A to point B, and set yourself up for success. Start building the mindset, habits, and routines into your daily life now in order to be successful 2024. and if you’re ready to take the next step, you’re ready to invest in yourself. I’m now accepting applications for January. The link is in my bio let’s get to work!🤘🏽 #weightlosstransformation #weightlosstips #weightlossjourney #weightlossgoals #weightlosscoach #weightlosshelp #weightlosschallenge #fatlosstips #fatlossjourney #nutritiontips #mindsetcoach #newyearsresolution #newyearnewme #nutritioncoach #fitnesscoach

In another video, Indya reveals another tactic that helped her lose so much weight. “You got to start slow,” she says. “If you approach this from an all or nothing mentality, you are only setting yourself up for failure. A big part of this journey is regaining self-trust. You are so used to letting yourself down. The way that you build trust with yourself again is by following through with the promises that you've made to yourself.”

And Took a Deep Dive Into Her Failed Attempts at Weight Loss

Another thing she did is “going to require you to dig deep,” she says. “We need to figure out what your main excuses or your repeated point of failure chances are. You've been stuck in the same exact cycle, repeating the same narratives as to why you haven't been able to be successful in the past. If your story is that you never have any time, then we need to figure out why you're not prioritizing making time. People make time for what's important to them. If the story is that you are overwhelmed and you have no idea where to start, then it is time to reach out for help so that you have a plan of action as well as guidance.”

Raven Norwood Lost 165 Pounds By Cutting Processed Foods From Her Diet

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven1rowwithraven/Instagram

Raven Norwood, 28, of Huntington Beach, California, started her weight loss journey at 212 pounds and has managed to drop down to 155 pounds, losing 165 pounds in two years. In an interview with Body Network, she explains that she used to eat food containing several dyes, fast food, and packaged food with GMOs, too much MSG, and preservatives. While she didn’t eliminate “any specific food groups because balance is the key to longevity,” she did cut the above from her diet and started cooking her own meals “as much as possible.” Creating healthy relationships with all food groups is so important when it comes to keeping the weight off, she stresses. “Balance is key, so, if I want a cookie here and there, I eat the cookie… no biggie!”

She Also Amped Up Her Water Intake

Raven adds that “lots of water” keeps her hydrated and feeling full. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

She Fell in Love with a Boutique Fitness Method

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven4raven.grl/Instagram

Raven also encourages finding a fitness form that you love. She discovered rowing at her local Row House. “I love how boutique and specialized gyms are getting more recognition! When I first found Row House, I had never seen a gym dedicated to rowing,” she says. “And on top of that you get floorwork exercises, group fitness and the wonderful community that comes along with it! I think a lot of people would benefit from boutique gyms.”

She Took Progress Pictures

Raven_Norwood_rowwithraven6raven.grl/Instagram

Progress photos were also an important part of Raven’s weight loss journey. “Sometimes your mind will play tricks on you, and make you feel like you haven’t done as much as you have,” she says. If she feels discouraged, she will look at her “Day 1” photo and it will provide instant motivation. “Take photos because your mind will play tricks on you, but those photos won’t,” she says.

Dils Less Lost 50 Pounds by Not Drinking Coffee on an Empty Stomach

Dils Lee (@dilshealth) lost 50 pounds by making a few simple lifestyle habit changes, which not only aided in weight loss, but were a game-changer in her overall health, especially with her inflammation and hormonal imbalance. One of the first changes that she made? “I stopped drinking coffee on an empty stomach and started making my breakfast look like this,” she said. “Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can lead to bloating, nausea, and anxiety, and it can also raise your cortisol levels, which can negatively impact ovulation weight and hormonal imbalances.”

She Also Switched From HIIT to Low Intensity Workouts

You don’t have to do HIIT workouts to lose weight. The second change that she made “was stopping all high intensity training while I was losing weight,” she said. “I found that I harbored a lot of inflammation in my face, arms, body, stomach, and legs everywhere.” Instead, she opted for lower intensity training. “Basically, by switching to lower intensity workouts, I've found that my waist has drastically come in. My stomach is much more flat, and I'm actually building a lot of tone and muscle in my arms and legs,” she says.

And, She Prioritized Sleep

“The fourth change that I made is that I introduced a healthy sleep routine,” Dils reveals. “My routine includes using supplements like magnesium and then not using my phone an hour before bed. Prioritizing sleep will help your body recover after physical activity. It'll also help with hormone regulation, metabolic regulation, stress and emotional wellbeing.” What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

Alexandra Lost 40 Pounds by Eating the Same Meals Every Day

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) personally lost 40 pounds by eating the same meals daily. “For 1-2 months I ate the same meals every single day why? Because I was confused I didn’t know what to eat or where to start so I ate the same thing everyday,” Alexandra confesses in the caption of her video.

She Also Walks 10,000 Steps a Day

In another video she reveals that walking 10,000 steps a day was also key. “I weigh around 150lbs so walking 10k steps burns an extra 300-400 calories a day without spending hours on the stair master,” says Alexandra. “Walking can be done anywhere you don’t have to get fancy gym clothes you can literally walk in your pjs,” she adds. And, it helps regulate hunger. “Walking is not an extremely difficult exercise and it can help regulate your appetite hormones and reduce feelings of hunger,” she says.

David Tuckfield Lost 60 Pounds EMS Workouts

David_Tuckfield7David Tuckfield

David Tuckfield, 61, dropped 60 pounds and reduced his body fat by 23 percent in 16 months by incorporating electro muscle stimulation (EMS) workouts into his routine, which he discovered at BODY20. “I was very skeptical when I first tried the EMS workouts. I was shocked after my demo workout how much I felt a difference,” he told Body Network. “For me, the amazing thing about the EMS workouts to me is that I can actually feel or sense my muscles. That was something that I had never experienced. At first I could feel them only during the workouts, but now when I exert myself I can discern which muscles are engaged. I don’t have huge or impressive muscles, but that I am more in-tune with the muscles I have. It is a good feeling to feel your muscles engage when you do an activity.” Another “great thing” about the workout “is that you really get a full workout (or better) in 20 minutes,” he says.

He Also Set Long-Term Goals

David_Tuckfield5David Tuckfield

He also started looking at weight loss as a long-term goal. “Don’t think short term. Think of it as a very long journey,” he suggests. “You will plateau, and you should just be comfortable with that. If you don’t stress out about the plateaus, you will eventually work through them.” Daily weigh-ins also helped him. “If you’ve gained weight, ask yourself what you did yesterday that would have made you gain weight. Usually the answer is obvious,” he says.

Are you in your post-menopausal stage and struggling to lose weight? Ilene Block is the founder of Silver and Strong, a coaching company that specializes in helping women over 50 get into the best shape of their lives. In fact, she herself lost 40 pounds at the age of 61 (and 55 pounds altogether) by making a few simple changes to her routine. “I totally changed my body composition at 61 by changing these 2 simple things,” she writes across a recent viral Instagram video. “Can it be that simple? Yes it can!” she added in the caption.

She Changed Her Approach to Diet

Many people think not eating or eating much less is the key to achieving a dream body. But the opposite can be true. “Eat as much as possible to fuel your body (not as little as possible to be skinny),” says Ilene in her post.

She Changed Her Approach to Exercise

Another game changing thing she did? She changed her approach to exercise. “Lift heavy weights 4 to 5x a week (Heavy for YOU),” she says in the post.

She Used to Yo Yo Diet

“I spent 40 years yo-yo dieting - eating as little as possible - and focusing on doing more cardio that weight training (and never heavy enough),” she continues in the post. Here’s what I changed and what you can start doing TODAY to make a difference in how you look and, more importantly, how you feel.”

She Follows These 3 Eating Rules

She went on to change the way she ate and followed these rules. First, she eats “at least 100g of protein spread evenly throughout the day,” she says. “Eat your biggest carb rich meals right before and after your weight training,” is her second rule. And her third? “Track your macros - if you are not eating at least 1800 calories a day, you likely need to do a reverse diet to rev your metabolism before attempting to lose fat,” she says.

She Weight Trains and Does Some Cardio

She also changed her exercise focus. “Weight train 4 to 5 days a week - lifting heavy weights (heavy for YOU). Most women don’t like heavy enough so they don’t get the benefits of muscle hypertrophy, which is what makes your muscles grow,” she says. “Cardio is important for heart health and can be a good tool to aid in fat loss when you are in a calorie deficit, but it should never replace weight training.”

Muscles Burn More Calories Than Fat

She also points out that muscles burn more calories than fat. “The more muscle you have, the more you can eat and maintain the same weight or lose body fat,” she says. “Weight training also helps keep your bones strong, which is especially important to us post menopausal gals. Strong bones and muscles allow us to maintain our overall strength and fitness and independence as we age.”

Here Are Some More Tips

“Changing how you eat and move can seem overwhelming, but if your goal is healthy aging, both are necessities. Start slow and remember these mantras,” she says.

  • Consistency, not perfection
  • Discipline, not motivation
  • Comparison is the thief of joy

“You are not too old; it is not too late to get in the best shape of your life starting today,” she concludes. And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss I Hit 60 and These 15 Anti-Aging Foods Keep Me Fit and Feeling 20 Years Younger.

Do you want to lose weight and transform your life by changing your routine in small ways? Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) has amassed a following on TikTok by sharing videos about losing 50 pounds. In a new post, she reveals a few of her go-to habits for weight loss. “3 things that have truly helped me lose weight and transform my life,” she writes in a recent post. “This helped me go from 200 pounds to 150 pounds.”

Find an Activity You Are “Absolutely Obsessed With”

The first thing she did that was a game-changer? “Finding an activity I am absolutely OBSESSED with,” she reveals in the post. “When I was losing weight I did not go to the gym at all it was during Covid so everything was closed. Instead I just walked every single day because I loved it and this can be bikini, running, swimming whatever u love.”

Don’t Focus on the Scale

Next, it’s not all about the numbers. “Don’t focus on the scale,” she says. “Focus on how you feel instead. Don’t weigh yourself each week don’t do any extra things because the scale will flexuate. Instead hide your scale for a month don’t weigh yourself and just focus on feeling your best.”

Don’t Burn Out

Her third habit? “No more BURN OUT,” she says. “Okay hear me out ladies stop with the burn out you don’t have to lift heavy 6x a week if u only have time for 3 that’s great. Stop doing hours of cardio and focus on small changes each day. The secret is consistency.”

Walk

In another one of her viral clips, she reveals that her weight loss was primarily the result of a single exercise. “I lost 40 pounds just by walking, and here's how I did it”, she said, “what you're going to do to start losing weight by walking.” She went on to offer a few tips on how to maximize the burn, starting with starting small. “Number one, don't start big. You don't have to go on a two hour walk every single day,” says Alexandra.

Take Shorter Walks Before or After Breakfast and Lunch

She also takes short walks after every meal. “I would go on a 10, 15 minute walk after my big meals,” she explains. “So usually my first walk would be in the morning, like 10 minutes before breakfast. I would eat breakfast, go about my day, and then during lunch,” she continues. “If you're at school, at work, I know you're able to get outside and get your body moving.”

Take a Longer Walk After Dinner

She also walks at the end of the day, after her meal. “This helps your food digest, it helps get rid of bloating, everything,” she says, explaining that “usually after dinner” she would take her “longer walk,” which would be “ a 30 minute walk.” Should you walk before or after meals? According to research, waiting until after your meal is more effective. A 2022 study published in the journal Sports Medicine found that walking as little as two to five minutes after a meal may lower your blood sugar.

Aim for 10,000 Steps a Day

In total, Alexandra tries to aim for “10,000 steps” per day, she says. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

Cook Double

In another Instagram post, she reveals a few of her best “lazy girl hacks” for weight loss. Alexandra’s first hack is to cook double. She says, “this way you’re gonna have leftovers for lunch for the next couple days & no need to cook!”

Make Healthy Swaps

She also suggests making healthy swaps. “Get the nuts, get the pre-cut veggies instead of having a chocolate bar, have a protein bar on hand,” she suggests.

Do you find yourself constantly battling hunger pangs while trying to lose weight? You're not alone. While Ozempic may be the latest trending weight loss medication, it comes with a hefty price tag and potential side effects. Health expert JJ Virgin, a triple-board certified nutrition specialist and four-time best-selling author, offers powerful natural alternatives that can help control cravings and shed weight more effortlessly. "Mother nature has given us powerful alternatives that can help control cravings and shed weight more effortlessly," says JJ. From protein-rich foods to simple lifestyle changes, these natural appetite suppressants could be the key to achieving your weight loss goals without prescription medications. We've organized these nine powerful options as a countdown, starting with nine and building up to JJ's top recommendation so you can discover which ones might work best for you.

9. Berberine: The Metabolic Master Switch

While often compared to GLP-1 medications, berberine works differently. "Berberine doesn't directly impact GLP-1," JJ clarifies. "Instead, it improves glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity by activating AMP-activated protein kinase, or AMPK—the metabolic master switch."

For those looking to improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control, JJ recommends taking one to two berberine capsules before meals. This natural compound can help manage hunger by addressing one of its root causes: blood sugar dysregulation.

8. Apple Cider Vinegar: The Ancient Appetite Suppressor

Apple cider vinegar has stood the test of time as a weight management aid. "I currently work with someone who needs to lose 200 pounds, and I have them taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar every day," JJ shares. A randomized clinical trial published in the Journal of Functional Foods in 2018 showed that 15-30ml of apple cider vinegar daily, combined with caloric restriction, effectively reduced body weight, BMI, and appetite.

JJ recommends taking one to two tablespoons daily, especially before your largest meal or before consuming carbohydrate-rich foods. "It helps lower the blood sugar response to meals and may improve insulin sensitivity," she explains.

7. Exercise: The Anti-Hunger Activity

Exercise does more than burn calories—it directly impacts appetite hormones. "Exercise enhances the secretion of GLP-1 and helps regulate leptin and ghrelin, leading to reduced feelings of hunger," says JJ. It also provides an endorphin release that can help manage stress-related eating.

JJ references a 2022 paper in Nature that identified an "anti-hunger molecule" produced during intense exercise. "This combination of lactate and phenylalanine is responsible for about 25% of the anti-obesity effects of exercise," she explains. JJ recommends high-intensity interval training like the Norwegian 4x4 method, along with 8,000-12,000 steps daily and post-meal movement to manage blood sugar.

6. Calacurb: The Short-Acting GLP-1 Alternative

"The New Zealand government spent ten years and $30 million developing Calacurb, which acts like GLP-1 but is short-acting," says JJ. This bitter hops extract can significantly reduce hunger for a couple of hours, making it perfect for managing cravings between meals.

A 2019 randomized control trial published in Nutrients found that taking bitter hops extract during a 24-hour water-only fast significantly reduced hunger. "It stimulates GLP-1 secretion, helps with feelings of fullness, and improves blood sugar control," JJ explains. She takes two Calacurb capsules before each meal for optimal results.

5. Akkermansia: The GLP-1 Promoting Probiotic

"Akkermansia muciniphila is a probiotic strain that can promote the secretion of GLP-1," JJ explains. This is significant because many people with insulin resistance, fatty liver, or poor metabolic health have impaired GLP-1 secretion. By supporting natural GLP-1 production, Akkermansia helps regulate appetite and metabolic function.

Beyond appetite control, JJ notes that "Akkermansia improves gut barrier function, helping with leaky gut, lowering inflammation, and enhancing metabolic function while reducing fat storage." A 2019 randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study published in Nature Medicine showed improvements in insulin sensitivity and body weight with Akkermansia supplementation.

4. Allulose: The Rare Sugar with Appetite-Suppressing Powers

Allulose is a low-calorie sweetener that doesn't raise blood sugar. "It actually has the opposite effect," JJ reveals. "Taking 10-15 grams of allulose before eating can lower the blood sugar response to your meal." A 2022 study in the Nutrients Journal found that allulose suppresses hunger-associated feeding and inhibits hunger-promoting neurons.

JJ incorporates allulose into her daily routine through flavored syrups in morning coffee or smoothies. "I also enjoy Swelthy Snacks, which combine fiber, allulose, and dark chocolate—a perfect treat that helps control appetite," she shares.

3. Water: Simple Yet Effective

"One of the easiest appetite suppressants is right at your fingertips: water," JJ states. Drinking water before meals helps you eat less and feel more full. Contrary to previous beliefs, JJ now recommends drinking water during meals as well. "Research shows water actually helps break down food, allows for better nutrient absorption, and slows digestion," she explains.

JJ suggests that many hunger signals are actually thirst in disguise. "We have an overactive hunger mechanism and an underactive thirst mechanism," she says. Try drinking a glass or two of water when you feel hungry, and you might find your cravings disappear.

2. Fiber: The Perfect Partner for Protein

Fiber works synergistically with protein to control appetite. According to JJ, "A 2022 review article published in Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition showed how dietary fiber helps control appetite through multiple mechanisms." Fiber increases satiety, slows digestion, and helps maintain balanced blood sugar levels.

JJ recommends aiming for at least 30 grams of fiber daily, far more than the 5-14 grams the average American consumes. "I love berries for fiber—I try to eat two cups every day. Legumes and avocados are also excellent sources," she shares. If you're currently low on fiber, increase your intake gradually to avoid digestive discomfort.

1. Protein: Nature's Ultimate Appetite Controller

Protein stands as the foundation of natural appetite control. "When people consume at least 35 grams of protein, they feel less hungry and fuller for longer periods," JJ explains. A 2020 systematic review in Physiology & Behavior found that protein consumption reduces hunger, lowers ghrelin (the hunger hormone), and increases appetite-suppressing hormones like CCK and GLP-1.

Beyond satiety, protein offers metabolic benefits. "About 20-30% of protein calories are utilized during metabolism and muscle synthesis, compared to negligible amounts for fat and only 5-10% for carbohydrates," says JJ. This thermic effect means your body works harder to process protein, burning more calories in the process.

Implementing Your Natural Appetite Control Strategy

When adopting these natural appetite suppressants, JJ recommends a methodical approach. "Add one strategy at a time so you can connect the dots between what you're doing and how you're feeling," she advises. This allows you to identify which methods work best for your unique body and lifestyle.

Remember that weight loss isn't just about controlling appetite. "You don't lose weight to get healthy—you get healthy to lose weight," JJ emphasizes. By combining these natural appetite suppressants with proper nutrition and regular exercise, you can achieve sustainable weight loss without expensive medications or unwanted side effects. Are you over 50 and struggling to lose weight? You might need to face some “hard truths” and make some changes to your routine, according to an expert. Michaela Bentley is a CPT & Nutrition coach. At the age of 58, she looks half her age! She maintains that she has a better grasp of diet and exercise than she did in her forties. In a recent post, she reveals the truth about losing weight after menopause. “At 59 here are my top tips to losing weight after 50,” she says, admitting they are “probably not what you think.”

There Are No Quick Fixes

“There are no quick fixes,” she writes. “The truth is I don’t have a magic wand and neither does any other fitness trainer. The results are up to you. So many people quit way too soon due to unrealistic expectations. It’s not your fault. The fitness industry is full of lies and half truths in order to get you to pull out your wallet. Real change takes time sometimes months and even years, depending on where you’re starting from. Get a program from a qualified source, be patient and stick with it.”

It’s Going to Be Hard

“It’s going to be hard,” she continues. “Big changes in life are hard won. Nothing worth doing is easy and losing weight is no different especially over 50. If you’re doing it right, it’s going to be hard, especially in the beginning while your body gets used to the feeling of getting out of your comfort zone. If you’re following a program that incorporates progressive overload, it’s probably never going to be easy, but I assure you if you stick with it, you will learn to love that feeling of being challenged.”

You Will Have to Make Lifestyle Changes

“It’s probably going to require a few lifestyle changes and you may not like them all,” she says. “I’ve had many clients say to me. I’m going to do the fitness part, but I don’t wanna change my lifestyle. I like having a drink in the evening and I don’t want to track my food. That’s great, but that’s not gonna get you results. If you really want big changes, you have to make big changes and that’s probably gonna mean changing some of your habits that are out of alignment with your goals and replace those with new healthy habits.”

Consistency Over Perfection

“Consistency is more important than perfection,” is her final tip. “You don’t have to be perfect, (god knows, I am not) but you do have to be consistent. Slow and steady wins the race. You can’t show up one day and then skip a bunch of days because you’re not feeling it. You need to show up every day in some form or another. If you do that, I promise you those results will come in time.”

She Also Started Strength Training

In another recent post, she revealed how she lost 15 pounds and got into the best shape later in life going “full ninja on belly fat.” The first thing that worked to blast belly fat was, unsurprisingly, strength training. “Lifting weights CONSISTENTLY with a plan that incorporates progressive overload. All this means is that you are added load and difficulty over time in order to avoid plateaus,” she writes.

She Also Started Moving “A Lot More”

She also started moving more, “a lot more,” she admits. “As a society we’ve become sedentary. Most of us spend a good majority of the day sitting at a desk. If we want to shake things up, metabolically we have to move more. Try adding intentional steps to your routine. Aim for at least 8000k-10000 a day.”

Food Journaling and Tracking

“Start a food journal and preferably track your food through tracking app,” she continued about habit number four. “Most of us have no clue exactly what we’re eating and in what quantities. I can’t tell you how many women tell me they eat under 1500 cal a day and then when we look at their food journal, they’re actually eating almost double that.”

Seeing a Doctor

“If you’re struggling with symptoms of perimenopause or menopause, see your doctor,” she says. “I had a truckload of symptoms that I had no idea were related to my declining hormones. Getting my hormones back into balance not only helped with the symptoms I was having but it helped me improve my sleep and general mood which in turn, helped me reduce stress and lose the weight.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these20 Superfoods for People Over 50.

Do you dread cardio workouts, especially high-intensity interval training? One expert claims to have discovered a new workout method as effective as HIIT. Podcaster Liz Moody recently interviewed Dr. Shannon Ritchey, PT, DPT on her podcast, who turned her onto a game-changing workout. “Excuse me. Why did no one tell me that studies show I can get a more effective cardio workout in just 10 minutes?” she writes, revealing the clutch cardio workout that has been a game-changer in her routine. Here is what you need to know about REHIT.

She Was Never a Cardio Person

Moody maintains that she isn’t a cardio person. “I’ve always hated cardio, until I had @dr.shannon.dpt on the @lizmoody podcast — and she told me I could get all of the same results in under 10 minutes. Here’s the deal,” she writes.

There Is Science Backing REHIT Workouts

“Researchers have discovered something called REHIT workouts, which studies found actually resulted in 2x the level of improvement in cardiorespiratory fitness relative to moderate intensity continuous training (going for a run, basically) group,” she says.

RELATED:10-Min Walking Workout Burns Fat at Home, Says Coach

What Is REHIT?

She goes on to explain what it is. “A 3 min light warm up, like walking, then 30 seconds of all out exertion (like a full on sprint) followed by 3 minutes of recovery, another 30 second period of all out exertion, and then another recovery period, totaling in 10 minutes. That’s it!” she says.

How Does It Work

Then, she explains the mechanism of action. “REHIT (Reduced Exertion High-Intensity Training) increases the body’s demand for ATP, the main energy currency. Since most ATP is produced by mitochondria, this intense activity signals your body to adapt by producing more mitochondria for future energy needs. REHIT triggers key enzymes and pathways involved in mitochondrial biogenesis, such as PGC-1α, optimizing mitochondrial function.”

You Get the Same Results in Short, Intense Bursts

“The short, intense bursts of REHIT are enough to fully activate these pathways, meaning you don’t need longer sessions to see increased efficiency,” she continues. “Shorter, high-intensity efforts can achieve the same results.”

RELATED:12-3-30 Walking Method: 20 Proven Tips to Lose Weight Faster

She Does 2 of These Sessions Per Week

“Now, I’m doing 2 REHIT sessions a week (benefits didn’t increase at 3 or 4 sessions, according to research), mixed with the weight training routine that Dr. Shannon shared on the podcast episode,” she says. “It’s such a good one and will help you get your healthiest body this year, without spending a second longer than you need to!” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.
