Top 8 Superfood Snacks You Should Eat Every Day to Lose Weight

These snacks are delicious and good for you.

When it comes to weight loss, choosing snacks that encourage fat-burning and satiety can help ensure long-term success. The right superfoods are beneficial not only for your waistline but also for your overall health, longevity, and fitness. "Superfoods help promote health by increasing your immune function and decreasing your chance of disease prevention or progression," Beth Czerwony, RD, tells the Cleveland Clinic. Here are eight superfood snacks that are delicious, nutritious, and can help with weight loss.

Seaweed Snacks

Seaweed is low in calories and high in minerals and fiber. This highly nutritious snack is an excellent alternative to calorie-dense snack foods such as chips, which can be hundreds of calories while offering no nutrients. Dried seaweed snacks are easy to keep in a bag or purse.

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is delicious, versatile, and packed with protein to encourage satiety and muscle growth. "Greek yogurt is an excellent source of protein and a great option if you're looking for something quick, filling, and portable," clinical nutritionist Heather Hodson, RDN, CDCES, tells Vogue. "From a nutrition perspective, Greek yogurt typically has significantly more protein—often two times as much!—and fewer carbohydrates than regular yogurt,"

Eggs

Eggs are the perfect diet-friendly superfood. Full of healthy fats and protein, a boiled egg is the ideal fat-burning snack that will keep you full. At 70 calories an egg, keeping them on hand is a no-brainer.

Berries

Berries are delicious, low in calories, and so good for you. "High in fiber, berries are naturally sweet, and their rich colors mean they are high in antioxidants and disease-fighting nutrients," Katherine D. McManus, MS, RD, LDN, tells Harvard Health. "When berries are not in season, it is just as healthy to buy them frozen. Add to yogurt, cereals, and smoothies, or eat plain for a snack."

Pomegranate Seeds

Pomegranates are a great superfood snack to enjoy while losing weight. "Pomegranates are high in dietary fiber and antioxidants," Penny Kris-Etherton, the Evan Pugh University Professor of Nutritional Sciences at Penn State University in University Park, Pennsylvania, tells the American Heart Association.

Olives

Olives are full of nutrients and a staple of the Mediterranean Diet. "Olives are a nutritional powerhouse," says the Cleveland Clinic. "Although they're composed mostly of fat, it's monounsaturated fat, the type known for having health benefits."

Avocados

Avocado is another delicious snack packed with healthy fats and antioxidants. "Avocados are a bit pricey in most states, but worth it—after all, they're packed with healthy fats, folate, vitamin C, and vitamin K," says Select Health. "Turn avocados into guacamole, put them on toast, or just put some Himalayan pink salt on them and eat them whole."

Nuts

Nuts are the ultimate superfood snack. "Hazelnuts, walnuts, almonds, pecans — nuts are a good source of plant protein," McManus says. "They also contain monounsaturated fats, which may be a factor in reducing the risk of heart disease. Add a handful to oatmeal or yogurt or have it as a snack. But remember, they are calorically dense, so limit to a small handful. Try the various types of nut butter, such as peanut (technically a legume), almond, or cashew. Nuts are also a great accompaniment to cooked veggies or salads." And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss these 20 Superfoods for People Over 50.
