I Dropped 50 Pounds and Lost My “Pooch” by Doing This One, Simple Exercise

This standing ab move works for men and women.

Are you desperate to blast your belly fat? It may not be as hard as you think. Gina is a weight loss warrior who lost 50 pounds and got in the best shape of her life in the healthiest way possible. In a new social media post, she reveals one standing ab move that helped her achieve her enviable abs and lose belly fat after having seven kids. “You could run for 10 minutes on a treadmill and not even burn off a stick of string cheese, or you could do these instead to build muscle and burn fat,” she writes across the video, going on to reveal the one exercise that helped her lose 50 pounds and flatten her pooch.

“As a c-section mother and mother of 7- I know the hang. After losing 50 pounds, I know it takes much more than some random crunches. I have found that standing core exercises help so much to tighten and strengthen that area,” she says in the post.

She Has a Hack for the “Fatty Upper Pubic Area”

She goes on to reveal an acronym, FUPA. “FUPA stands for ‘fatty upper pubic area’ and refers to the accumulation of fat around the mons pubis, or pubic bone,” she says. And it’s not just women who experience it — so do men!

“Although we can’t target fat loss in a specific area of the body, we can definitely work on certain exercises that help us tighten and strengthen muscles in that area. This is one example of what I have done with my journey, and after 7 kids and c-sections, I have found that this area has become increasingly tighter since incorporating overhead weights with movement such as you see,” she says.

It Works for Men Too

And “for the men,” she maintains that the same exercise works. “My husband started doing these with me to strengthen his core with higher weight and reps! Let me know if you try it!”

In the video, she demonstrates the pooch-busting move. “Try to do this for 60 seconds with 10-15 pounds. Rest for 60 seconds and do it again until you hit three reps.”

She Also Walks with a Weighted Vest

Another hack that helped her lose weight fast? Wearing a weighted vest and walking. Her routine? She wrote in another post that “daily/nightly walks” and a “minimum” of 3 miles a day “with it on at least 5 times a week” is what she did. “You can achieve this with sidewalk walking, road walking, or walking on a treadmill/walking pad. I have since tapered back on my weighted vest walking- and walk weighted only once a week because the goal isn’t weight loss but now muscle definition. Weighted walks are super beneficial. I bought the 40-pound with shoulder pads, removed all but ten pounds, and worked my way up. The one I walk with now is a 60 lbs vest,”

And Makes Sure to Eat Enough Food

She also explains that many people believe that undereating will help them lose weight. But that’s not true. “You are (probably) not eating enough, and it has your metabolism way out of wack and your body holding onto fat way more than you’d like,” she writes. “I was at my absolute heaviest when I was eating the absolutely least amount of food after giving birth for the 7th time in 12 years,” she says. Now, she fuels her body with healthy foods so that she can exercise more.

Do you want to lose weight fast and keep it off? Christy Campbell is a weight loss coach who helps women lose weight and “20 - 40 pounds of fat without dieting.” In a new social media post, she reveals the details about her method. “I wish more women 40+ knew that losing belly fat really is as simple as the 20-10 method,” she writes in an Instagram video. “This is based on coaching hundreds of people and seeing exactly what works,” she adds in the captions.

First, Stay in a Calorie Deficit for 20 Days

“The 20. I want you to shoot for 20 days in a row of following a plan that puts you in a calorie deficit. The best way to do this is to subtract 300-500 calories from the amount of food your body needs to stay the same. Get apps 1g/ pound of goal body weight in protein and split the rest of your calories between carbs and fat. Ideally, you are eating mostly whole, nutrient-dense foods,” she writes in her post.

This Will Give Your Body the Consistency It Needs to Change

“By committing to 20 days in a row, you give your body the consistency it needs to change. After 20 days, give yourself a day off to eat higher calories and enjoy a break. Then repeat again.” She recommends repeating this twice. ”Doing this 2x in a row is 42 days and will help you lose approximately 8-12 pounds of body fat,” she says.

Next, Walk 10,000 Steps Per Day

“Then the next part…the 10. 10k every day… and those are intentional steps… so if you need to take a 45-minute to 1-hour walk to get it done- do it! Walking speeds up your metabolism without causing your body additional stress,” she says.

Also, Lift Weights

“Should you lift weights, too? Yes, because that makes it a lot easier to maintain weight loss and also gives you a fit, healthy body. Do a minimum of three days a week… but the 20-10 method will get you big progress even if you can’t do the workouts right away,” she says.

This Will Help Boost Metabolism and Burn Body Fat

Increasing daily movement and following a nutrition plan is a game-changer, she says. “20-10…simple and easy to remember. If you store fat in your belly, this will help a ton, and if you are over 40, the additional movement is going to give your metabolism a much-needed boost.”

She Also Maintains That Ditching a Few Bad Habits Changed Her Body

In another post, she reveals that “ditching” a few habits “really changed” her body. “And I really wish I would have done them sooner…but here are the deets if you want to steal any or all of them,” she writes.

She Stopped Scrolling and Started Sleeping Moore

“Stopped scrolling and started sleeping” is the first change she made. “How did I do it? I deleted TikTok and gave myself time during the day to scroll…that wasn’t before bed. I go to bed early…like 9 pm, and am typically asleep by 930. It is a priority. More sleep means better body composition, less cravings, and better hormone balance…aka…my body feels and looks its best.”

She Stopped Over and Under Exercising

Next, she “stopped over and under exercising,” she writes. “I’ve had times in my life where I was 40 pounds overweight and basically sedentary…and times in my life that I was doing CrossFit for 3 hours a day and felt very inflamed and puffy. Now, I exercise to build lean muscle, feel good, and enjoy life. I keep a very consistent routine, and it pays off.”

She Quit Drinking

She also put down the bottle. “I quit drinking,” she says. “This one is a very personal choice, but I’m sharing it bc it really made a big difference for me. I have had about ten drinks in the past year, and it has only been a positive in my life. I don’t have the sleep issues, inflammation, or extra body fat from alcohol.”

She Paid More Attention to Her Nutritional Needs

“I stopped guessing how much food my body needs,” she concluded. “There wasn’t a secret diet or solution. It was simple…Understand macros and how they impact my body, learn how to turn macros into meals that I would eat consistently, and then learn to adjust the portions for my goals.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Online fitness coach Alexandra (@alexx.fitt) has amassed a following on TikTok and Instagram by sharing videos about her weight loss. In her many viral videos, she reveals the simple but effective changes she made to her lifestyle that enabled her to drop the weight fast. In a new Instagram video, she gets specific about the “3 things” she “stopped doing to lose 40 pounds.”

She Stepped Away From the Scale

The first thing Alex did was stop weighing herself, she writes. “Why? The scale was messing with my head, so I threw it off my balcony.”

She Stopped Counting Calories

Lots of health experts recommend counting calories, but that didn’t work for Alex. “I stopped counting calories and stuck to a schedule. I ate breakfast at 8 a.m., a snack at 11, lunch at 1, a snack at 3, and dinner at 6. And yeah, your schedule may be different, but if you have 5 minutes to check TikTok or like this post, you have 5 minutes to grab an apple or pick up a protein bar and throw it in your purse,” she writes.

She Stopped Doing Workouts She Hated

Her third lifestyle change? “I stopped doing the workouts I hated,” she claims. I remember I’d always do 40 minutes on the Stairmaster (it didn’t help me lose weight, only raise my cortisol levels), and on the days I was lazy, I’d skip the gym altogether just because I didn’t want to do cardio. Now, my only cardio is walking.”

Her advice? “Start implementing a routine that makes you happy and works for you, not anyone else,” she concludes the post.

Here’s How She Used Walking for Weight Loss

As for exercise, in some of her other videos, Alex elaborated on how walking helped with her weight loss. Not only would she walk for 20-30 minutes in the morning, but she would take a short 10-15 minute walk after lunch.

Whatever works for you,” says The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian. “Either way, you are raising your metabolism and teaching your body to burn calories.”

Do you have loose, sagging skin and don’t know how to firm it up? Alicia Jones is an accredited health expert who specializes in helping women after 50 “reclaim great health, increase energy, and lose weight through fun fitness and nutrition strategies.” In one of her viral YouTube videos, she discusses the number one way to firm up sagging skin. “Can you actually tighten loose skin? Well, if there's a way, in this video, I'm gonna show you how, and we're gonna do it in a way that I absolutely love by showing you an exact example,” she says in the clip.

Sue, 60, Came to Her Hoping to Firm and Tone Her Body

Alicia uses one of her clients, Sue, as an example. “When Sue first came to me at 60, she wanted to feel healthy and strong and to firm and tone her body. Sue had always been really active. She played volleyball. She was in a bowling league in the summer. She went boating and hiking, and she was even on a baseball team,” she says.

She Lost Weight Fast and Ended Up with Lots of Loose Skin

Close-up Of A Woman Holding Arm With Excess Fat On Grey BackgroundShutterstock

“But even though she was that active, she got diagnosed with diabetes. So a combination of her new medication and change in nutrition, Sue dropped weight fast, and she was left with a lot of loose skin in her arms and her chest and her stomach, and she really wanted to firm up,” says Alicia. “That's when she came to me, and during our first assessment, I will never forget that she asked me the question that many of you asked me: Can you actually tighten loose skin?”

You Might Be Able to Tighten Loose Skin Without Surgery

Surgery,Nurse,Hand,Taking,Surgical,Instrument,For,Group,Of,Surgeons,AtShutterstock

“So let's get honest about it,” she continues. “There are some ways that you might be able to tighten loose skin if you want to lose some weight, but you're not clinically obese. If you have lost weight suddenly, so there's a lot of weight really fast, or you lost weight through nutrition and through cardio alone, only one of those two ways, or maybe a combination of the two, then you may be able to tighten up loose skin,” she says.

The Secret Tool? Weight Training

Barbel weights in gymShutterstock

She then offers the secret solution to tightening up loose skin. “The power is in weight training. It's by doing weight training,” she says.

You Have to Be Consistent

close up of man holding weight in gymShutterstock

“Here's the thing, if you only lift weights every once in a while, or this is a tactic that you said you've been doing, but you haven't been consistent, that's where the issue lies. You've got to be consistent. You have to lift weights for a minimum of 12 weeks, if not longer in order to see those results,” she says.

Sue Firmed Her Arms and Tummy with Weights

“That was the exact plan for Sue. She had perfected cardio, but it was time to add a consistent weight training routine in order to firm her arms and tighten her tummy,” she says. “One year later, on a new low dose of medication, she feels confident and excited to wear tank tops that show off her beautiful arms. She's got her body back, and she is so proud, not to mention her strength and her energy, so she feels in control of her body and in control of her health.”

Tip 1: Start Slow

Portrait of a good-looking cheerful middle-aged athletic woman with a dumbbell posing for the cameraShutterstock

Alicia offers a few tips to get “fabulous” results. The first? “You've got to start slow. So in order for you to tighten loose skin, it actually is heavier weight training that you would need to do. And no, I promise you won't bulk up,” she says.

Start with Lighter Weights and Slowly Go Heavier

,Dumbbells,,,Rack,hym,weights, fitness, exerciseShutterstock

“But here's the thing: If you are just starting out, you can't jump right into a heavyweight training routine. You've got to work on adaptation, which means you gotta take it slow and do lighter weights at first. And if you're brand new and just starting out, never fear, you will still get that firming and toning effect to doing lighter weights at first because your body needs to adapt to that. So your body reacts by firming and toning,” she says.

Tip 2: Stick with the Same Workout

“Two, stick with the same workout. All too often, I see women jumping from one workout to the next workout to the next. The thing is, your body needs time to adapt in order to increase lean muscle,” she continues.

Do the Same Workout But Up the Weights

One woman mature caucasian female slim hands hold dumbbell while training at home or fitness center real people healthy lifestyle concept copy spaceShutterstock

“More importantly, as I mentioned, when you want to tone and firm loose skin, then it is so important to be doing heavier weights. So instead of swapping out your workouts every single day or every few days, find a workout you love and focus on increasing the weight size. That way you are sure to be lifting a little bit heavier each and every time, which firms and tones the body weight,” she suggests.

Tip 3: Create a Consistent Plan

Workout Training Exercise Plan And Daily ScheduleShutterstock

“Number three, create a consistent plan,” she says. “You don't need to commit to every single day of weight training. In fact, I don't recommend that at first, but you do need to focus on getting in the same amount of weight training each and every week.”

Don’t Over Commit

Senior couple exercise stretching resistance band at home, health care and active seniors conceptShutterstock

Also, don't over commit. “Don't give yourself five days a week. Just choose a number that you know you can do. If it was the busiest time of your life right now, how many days of the week could you really, honestly, truly, realistically commit to doing? If it's one day, great if it's two even better, but it doesn't really matter. The point is you've got to stay consistent,” she says.

Tip 4: Work Your Whole Body

Home training concept. Smiling senior woman doing elbow plank on yoga mat in living room. Positive mature lady doing her workout routine, exercising indoors, strengthening her core musclesShutterstock

“Point number four, you've gotta work out the whole body. So all too often I see women just working that one area that they wanna tone. They only do arm exercises. They only do crunches, hoping to get their abs tight or the skin on their tummy tight or on their arms tight, when in reality, that's not the way to do it,” she says.

You Can’t Spot Reduce

“You can't spot reduce. In order for you to really firm up and tone, you've got to work the whole body, especially if a part of the reason that you feel that you have loose skin is because you need to lose some weight,” she says.

Whole Body Weight Training Revs Up Metabolism

“This is because whole body weight training revs up your metabolism. You burn fat even at rest throughout your whole body. The more lean muscle you create, the more you're going to be able to create a fat burning system and rev up your metabolic rate. And I promise you will not bulk up,” she says.

The Longer You Have Been Carrying Excess Weight, the Harder It Is To Tighten Loose Skin

She also points out that “the longer that you've been carrying excess weight, the harder it is to tighten loose skin. And that's because of the elastin and collagen fibers within the skin,” she says. “They become damaged the longer they've been stretched out. So you'll want to start your weight training as soon as possible. So if you haven't started already, start now.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 20 Superfoods for People Over 50.

If you are making excuses about why you haven’t lost weight, and any of them involve financial retrains, stop right there. According to one man, you don’t need a personal trainer or even a gym membership. All you need to do is buy a jump rope. Joseph Graham Jr. (@theguywiththepinkshoes) is a fitness influencer and “cross rope athlete” who lost a whopping 75 pounds and toned up his dad's body by jumping rope. The father-of-three maintains that skipping not only helped him achieve physical health but also has been a game changer in terms of his mental health as well. Here is everything you need to know about his weight loss journey.

Joseph Topped the Scales at Nearly 250 Pounds in 2022

Joseph started his jump roping journey in 2022, he revealed in a viral video, weighing nearly 250 pounds. By December 2023, he was down 50 pounds and had a six-pack.

He Has Lost 75 Pounds By Jump Roping

A little over a year later, he has lost 75 pounds. “75lbs transformation (before & after) 🎟️🌸✌🏾 the journey never ends, the work never stops. We just keep improving,” he captioned the viral video.

He Also Does Push Ups

In addition to jumping rope, Joseph claims that push-ups also helped him get into shape. He explains that he does “harder” push-ups. “It's not enough to just do as many as you can and do them fast. Once you feel comfortable doing push-ups, once you feel like you've kind of got it down, you have to start making it harder for yourself,” he explains. The resistance is what builds the strength, right?

Form Is Important, He Stresses

Joseph_Graham_Jr_theguywiththepinkshoes3theguywiththepinkshoes/TikTok

The form is also essential. “So in the beginning, I would do my pushups, and my form was off,” he confesses. “I used to do regular pushups and would just, my butt would be all up in the air, and I would just try to see how many I could do, and I would just do about 15, right? Or 20. And then it started getting easier. So I was like, bro, I'm doing 20, but now I can't go past 20, right? And I felt like nothing was really changing.”

So, he worked on getting into form. “You want to make sure you're straight like a plank, right? And go slow, go down real slow. Pause, go down real slow, go. And when you go down slow like that, you make sure that you're engaged in your core. Even if you could only do six, you keep doing them like that, right? And once you start doing that, when you go to do your regular pushups, you're going to find yourself being able to do more.”

He “Felt Like Quitting” but “Pushed Through”

Joseph_Graham_Jr_theguywiththepinkshoes5theguywiththepinkshoes/TikTok

This week, he shared another “before and after,” opening up about his journey. “I can't tell you how many times I felt like quitting, how many times I felt like I wouldn't accomplish my fitness goals, how many times my mind was filled with negative thoughts, doubt, insecurities, and anxiety,” he writes. Through all of this, I pushed through. You can do it too!”

Jumping Rope is an Efficient Cardio

Joseph_Graham_Jr_theguywiththepinkshoes4theguywiththepinkshoes/TikTok

Jump roping is a free and efficient cardio workout you can do anytime, anyplace. “Boxers have been skipping rope for ages, keeping them light on their feet and able to endure long challenging bouts,” Nikolai Puchlov, owner and head coach at Pro Kettlebell, previously told Body Network. He recommends investing in a Crossrope, “the highest quality ropes I have come across, and they have training resources as well,” he says.

Pushups are Great for Heart Health

Joseph_Graham_Jr_theguywiththepinkshoes6theguywiththepinkshoes/TikTok

In addition to building strength, push-ups are great for heart health. One 2019 study published in JAMA Network determined that men who could complete at least 40 push-ups in less than 30 seconds were at less of a risk of cardiovascular problems—including heart attack and heart failure—compared to men who could only complete ten or fewer.

Need your morning caffeine fix? Liezl shares her favorite 80-calorie iced coffee hack: "I love using soy milk because it's so creamy and packs 7 grams of protein." Simply combine ice cubes, half a teaspoon of maple syrup, unsweetened soy milk, and a teaspoon of instant coffee for a refreshing protein boost.

Power Through Lunch with Mexican-Inspired Salad

"This quick lunch always hits the spot," Liezl explains about her 400-calorie Mexican black bean salad. Combine cucumber, tomatoes, cilantro, avocado, and black beans with lime juice and olive oil. Serve with 140 calories worth of tortilla chips (about 21 chips) for a satisfying crunch.

Honey Chicken Meal Prep (25g Protein)

"This is my favorite meal prep recipe," says Liezl. Combine crispy chicken (or tofu) with honey-sriracha sauce (honey, sriracha, sesame oil, apple cider vinegar, ginger, onion powder). Serve with 1 cup basmati rice and sautéed green beans. Makes 4 servings. Total calories per serving: 400, Protein: 25g.

3-Ingredient Mango Protein Smoothie (25g Protein)

Liezl's favorite sweet snack combines 2 cups frozen mango, 1 scoop dairy-free protein powder, and 2 cups unsweetened almond milk. "It tastes like a milkshake but packs serious protein," she says. Total calories: 400 (or 200 for half portion), Protein: 25g.

Are you starting to experience hormonal changes that are getting in the way of your weight loss? Marci Nevin is a perimenopause weight loss and wellness coach who helps women in perimenopause lose weight, get their “energy and waistline back,” and “beat belly fat and bloating,” she says in her Instagram bio. In a new social media post she reveals a handful of daily habit that help her keep fat at bay in her forties. “My daily non-negotiables that help me stay lean with less effort as a 41 year old woman in perimenopause,” she writes.

She Used to Go Over the Top with Diet and Exercise

“All through my 20s and up until my early 30s, I hustled my a** off to maintain a lean and fit physique. I was lifting 5-6 days a week, doing cardio, and adding extra conditioning types of workouts on top of it. While also eating a restrictive diet and rarely allowing myself to indulge in any food that wasn't ‘clean’,” she writes.

When She Put in “Less Effort” Her Body Transformed

It wasn't untilher health “hit rock bottom” and was forced to slow down that her body transformed. “But with way less effort. Wild, right?” she says. “Now at 41, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I easily maintain a body that is lean year round without putting in so much intense work or giving up the food I love. This is my playbook.”

1. She Doesn’t Hit Snooze

Marci’s health habits start literally the second she wakes up. “I never ever EVER hit snooze,” she writes. “Instead I get up right away, make my bed and start my morning routine.”

2. Meditation

Next up, she gets her zen on and focuses her mind. “I meditate, journal, and prayer to prime my mind and set the tone for the day,’ she says.

3. Walking

“I follow that up with a walk during sunrise. This has helped more than anything with keeping me energized and focused throughout the day and helping with sleep,” she continues. She calls walking, the “real secret weapon” for maintaining her weight. “I get 10,000 steps minimum,” she says.

4. Macro Tracking

Next up, she focuses on nutrition. “I track my macros so I know exactly how many calories I'm eating. Even though I no longer pre-log my days, I always have an idea of what my meals will look like and repeat the same ones often to reduce decision fatigue. I always get 100-120 g of protein and 25 g of fiber daily,” she writes.

5. Strength Training

Strength training is also part of her program. “ I move my body every day. Lifting is the priority and I do that 4x/week using a program designed for building muscle. I do Zone 2 cardio for heart and brain health,” she says.

6. Hydration

She also makes sure to hydrate. “I drink 20 oz of water first thing in the morning and before going for coffee or caffeine,” she writes.

7. High Protein Breakfast

Don’t sleep on your first meal of the day. “I also eat a big a**, high protein breakfast that keeps my hunger and cravings in check all day so I don't end up mindlessly snacking,” she says.

8. Sleep

Her last habit is giving her body the opportunity to regenerate and recharge. “I'm in bed by 9:30 and aim for a minimum of 7 hours sleep. I have a calming routine to help me relax and am off screens at least 1 hour before,” she writes.

Her Approach Is Sustainable

“I'm not special. But am a testament to what you can achieve with a sustainable approach and consistent effort. If you want it you still gotta work for it. But that can be done in a way that feels more easeful and enjoyable,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Struggling with stubborn belly fat despite logging miles of running? You're not alone. While many of us turn to running as our go-to weight loss solution, certified clinical nutritionistAutumn Bates has discovered a surprising truth: walking might be the key to finally targeting those stubborn fat stores. With over 600,000 YouTube subscribers benefiting from her science-backed approach, Autumn challenges conventional wisdom about exercise and weight loss. Read on to discover why your daily stroll might be more powerful than your morning run.

Why Running Might Be Sabotaging Your Belly Fat Loss

"Simply looking at weight loss from a calorie-restrictive approach does not work—at least not in the long run," Autumn explains in her post. While running burns more immediate calories, this approach can backfire. When you consistently create large calorie deficits through running, your body enters what Autumn calls a "semi-starvation state," leading to metabolic changes that make fat loss harder, not easier.

The First Way Walking Beats Running Your Stress Hormones

The first advantage of walking lies in its effect on stress hormones. According to Autumn, "When cortisol is high, it causes the body to become more insulin resistant, which makes it harder to actually tap back into fat burning." Excessive running elevates cortisol levels, particularly around the belly area. Walking, on the other hand, keeps stress hormones in check while still providing fat-burning benefits.

The Second Way Walking Wins Better Fat-Burning Mode

"What's specifically great about walking for fat loss is that it primarily uses fat as fuel because it is a lower intensity exercise," Autumn reveals. Unlike high-intensity running, which primarily burns glucose, walking taps directly into fat stores. This makes it particularly effective for targeting stubborn fat deposits, especially around the midsection.

The Third Way Walking Works Consistent Fat Burning

The third advantage comes from walking's accessibility. As Autumn points out, "You can go on walks multiple times throughout the day, schedule permitting." This consistent movement throughout the day helps maintain insulin sensitivity, which Autumn explains is crucial for fat burning: "When insulin is high, it causes the body to turn off fat burning. When it's low, it allows fat burning to turn back on."

The Practical Power of Walking

Unlike running, which requires special clothing and post-exercise showers, walking fits seamlessly into your day. "With a walk, you don't necessarily need to have on special clothes. You can have on your normal work clothes and just go out for a 10 or 15-minute walk a couple of times throughout the day," Autumn notes. This practicality makes it easier to maintain consistency—the real key to lasting results.

Success Stories That Prove It Works

The proof lies in the results. Autumn has witnessed "thousands of people who've lost 20, 30, 40 pounds just from walking instead of running for weight loss." These success stories demonstrate that sometimes the gentlest approach yields the most powerful results.
