Are you on Ozempic or another GLP-1 weight loss drug but aren’t making the progress you hoped for? You might be making a common diet mistake, one doctor claims. Aliza Olive, MD, co-founded Med Free Maintenance and is a GLP1 weight loss and taper-off nutrition expert. In a new social media post, she discusses ways you could be sabotaging weight loss while on a weight loss drug. “The 5 most common mistakes women on GLP-1 injections make with protein that are holding them back from losing body fat,” she writes.

Most Women on GLP-1s Are Making a Few Common Mistakes

“Does hitting your daily protein goal feel like trying to climb a mountain ⛰️ … wearing flip-flops?” she asks. “You’re not alone. Most women on GLP-1s are making these 5 very fixable mistakes that are keeping them from reaching their protein potential. Let’s break it down.”

Choosing Salad Over Steak

The first mistake? “Choosing the salad over the steak,” she says. “Yes, greens are great, but they won’t help you preserve muscle or stay full like a protein-packed meal will.”

Here’s how to fix it, according to Dr. Olive. “Build your meals around a protein base (chicken, steak, fish, tofu) FIRST,” she says.

Eating Too Little at a Time

The second mistake? Eating too little at a time. “1-2 eggs or a single cup of yogurt isn’t cutting it, sis,” she says. To fix it, “Think bigger servings. Go for 5-6 oz of chicken instead of 3, or 2 cups of Greek yogurt instead of 1.”

Trying to Get Protein From Too Many Sources

Mistake three is trying to get protein from too many sources. “A little here, a little there… it adds up, but it’s WAY more work,” she says. The fix? “Stick with more of one source instead of juggling multiple.”

Falling for “High Protein” Masketing

Another common mistake? Falling for “high protein” marketing. “Trail mix and peanut butter? They’re mostly fat. Just cause the label says high protein, just means it’s slightly higher than the alternative,” she says. “Read labels! Protein should be 30g+ per meal. Bonus: look for low sugar too.”

Skipping Fiber with Protein

The final mistake is skipping fiber with your protein. “Fiber + protein = the ultimate hunger-crushing duo,” she says. “Pair high-protein meals with fiber-rich veggies or whole grains for maximum fullness and metabolism support.”

More Protein Tips

She also offers a few protein tips.

  • Aim for 0.8-1g of protein per pound of goal body weight.
  • Start small: try 100g/day and build from there.
  • Use simple swaps and easy hacks to hit your goals: rotisserie chicken, deli meat, Greek yogurt, jerky, or even a protein shake.

Protein Is Fat-Burning Fuel

“Think of protein as the fuel for your fat loss engine,” she adds. “Skip it, and you’ll stall out. Nail it, and you’ll cruise toward your goals with way less hunger, fatigue, or muscle loss.” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss I’m a Nutritionist and Here Are 25 Weight Loss Truths You Need to Hear.

Starting Ozempic or Wegovy can feel overwhelming, and many patients make critical mistakes that could affect their results. "These medications work differently from traditional treatments, and understanding how to use them correctly is crucial," explains Dr. Brian Yeung, ND, who specialize in metabolic health. With the rising popularity of GLP-1 medications for managing diabetes and weight loss, avoiding common pitfalls becomes even more important. Here are the five key mistakes to watch out for, along with expert guidance on how to prevent them.

Skipping or Inconsistent Dosing

"Consistency is crucial with GLP-1 medications," says Dr. Yeung in his video. According to Cleveland Clinic, each medication has a specific dosing schedule - some require weekly injections while others are daily. Missing doses can interrupt your progress and reduce the medication's effectiveness. Set reminders and establish a routine to stay on track.

Ignoring Diet and Hydration

Woman,Drinking,Water,And,Smiling

"Many patients don't realize these medications slow down digestion, which means you need to adjust your eating habits," Dr. Yeung points out. Cleveland Clinic confirms that GLP-1 agonists work by slowing stomach emptying and increasing feelings of fullness. Stay hydrated and focus on nutrient-rich foods to prevent potential deficiencies.

Not Monitoring Blood Sugar Properly

Diabetes,Blood,Sugar,Level,Lancelet,GlucometerShutterstock

"While these medications have a lower risk of causing hypoglycemia, regular monitoring is still essential," says Dr. Yeung. Cleveland Clinic experts warn that the risk increases when combining GLP-1s with other diabetes medications. Keep track of your blood sugar levels and know the signs of low blood sugar, which include shaking, sweating, and dizziness.

Dismissing Side Effects

"Some initial digestive issues are common, but they shouldn't be severe or ongoing," Dr. Yeung advises. According to Cleveland Clinic, common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, particularly when starting the medication or increasing the dose. Don't ignore persistent or severe symptoms - contact your healthcare provider if side effects become concerning.

Relying Solely on Medication

"The biggest mistake is thinking these medications work in isolation," Dr. Yeung emphasizes. Cleveland Clinic stresses that GLP-1 agonists are just one part of a comprehensive treatment plan. Successful management requires combining medication with lifestyle changes, proper diet, and regular exercise.

Understanding Your Medication

Cleveland Clinic notes that GLP-1 medications work by mimicking a natural hormone that helps control blood sugar and appetite. Understanding this mechanism can help you use the medication more effectively and set realistic expectations for your treatment journey.

Tracking Progress Effectively

Monitor more than just weight loss. Cleveland Clinic reports that GLP-1 medications can offer additional benefits, including improved blood pressure and better lipid profiles. Keep track of these various health markers to get a complete picture of your progress.

He happens to be married to Liz Grand, MD, a board-certified internal medicine physician. “Ozempic has been all over the news, and social media celebrities and many others have been using it, but of course, they don't admit to it,” he says, introducing his wife to “help me with this topic.” In the interview, she reveals everything you need to know about weight loss drugs.

What Is Ozempic?

Pen,Injection,Semaglutide,Ozempic, diabetes, medicine, medication, diet, weight, lossShutterstock

Dr. Grand explains that Ozempic is the brand name for a medicine called Semaglutide. “It's a once-weekly subcutaneous injectable medication, uh, meaning that the medicine gets injected into the skin, usually in the upper arm, the thigh, or the abdomen,” she says.

It’s Primarily Used to Treat Type 2 Diabetes

“It's primarily used to treat type two diabetes. That's what it was FDA approved for initially in 2017,” she continues. “Ozempic or semaglutide belongs to a class of medications called GLP-1 receptor agonists. GLP-1 is basically a hormone that's produced by the GI tract. And so the GLP one receptor agonists essentially work on these GLP-1 receptors.”

Where Are GLP-1 Receptor Located?

“GLP-1 receptors are located throughout the body, but there are three main areas that we'll talk about today,” Dr. Grand continues. “The first is the pancreas which leads to the release of insulin. Insulin then promotes the absorption of glucose into tissues to be used for energy or to be used as a form of energy storage. And this ultimately causes a decrease in blood glucose levels. The second is the brain, which decreases appetite by reducing the feeling of hunger. And the third is the GI tract, which slows down the movement of food and thus makes us feel fuller.”

What Is the Correct Dosage and How Much Does It Cost?

“In terms of dosing, we generally start with semaglutide at 0.25 milligrams weekly, and it can gradually be increased to a maximum of two milligrams as tolerated. The cost without insurance can be up to about $1,200 a month,” she says.

Wegovy Is Another Form of Semaglutide

“There is another form of semaglutide called Wegovy, and this is basically semaglutide in a higher dose,” she says.“This is the medication that's actually FDA-approved for weight loss, but it is specifically approved for people either with obesity or who are overweight with at least one weight-related condition. These include conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and heart disease.”

Both Ozempic and Semaglutide Reduce Weight

ozempic_wegovy-split1Shutterstock

So, what is ozempic or semaglutide used for? “It was initially meant for the treatment of type two diabetes to help decrease blood sugar by augmenting the release of insulin. But people found that there was also this impact on weight loss, and it's been studied and it has been shown to reduce weight,” she says.

However, to Maintain the Weight Loss, You Might Have to Stay on Them

GDANSK, POLAND - MAY 2022: obese fat man preparing Semaglutide Ozempic injection control blood sugar levelsShutterstock

There is one major con about using drugs for weight loss. “They've also found that people generally need to stay on Ozempic in order to maintain the weight loss,” she says.

Risks and Side Effects

“In terms of risks or side effects, the most common side effects that we typically see are nausea, vomiting, constipation, and sometimes diarrhea. We also see dizziness, increased heart rate, headaches, reflux, and even sometimes acute kidney injury, which is thought to be due to dehydration from all of the nausea and vomiting that ozempic can induce. It's also not recommended for people who have certain gastrointestinal tract diseases like inflammatory bowel disease, things like Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis,” she says.

RELATED:20 Things to Avoid While on Ozempic

There Is Also a Cancer Risk

Asian woman lying sick in hospital.Shutterstock

“There's also a black box warning for a specific type of thyroid cancer,” she says.”This comes from studies that were done in rodent models that showed growth of the specific type of thyroid tumor. Acute pancreatitis, which is a condition where the pancreas becomes quite inflamed, has also been noted in this class of medications. And it's really important to note that pancreatitis can be severe and can be fatal. It's unclear what this mechanism is for this possible complication. It's also unclear whether or not this has any implications for pancreatic cancer in the long run. But regardless if you have a history of pancreatitis or if you develop pancreatitis while on the medication, you should stop it, and you should never take it again.”

Significant Weight Loss with the Drugs Can Change the Way Your Face Looks

Tired woman looking her eye bags in the bathroom.Shutterstock

“Significant weight loss with drugs like ozempic and Wegovy can change the way our faces look,” they add. “We have many fat compartments throughout our face, and these compartments are affected by anything that leads to weight loss such as bariatric surgery, such as just kinda natural weight loss with diet and exercise and or with drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. As our weight drops, the fat in our face decreases as well. This could lead to areas appearing more hollow and gaunt, and also, our skin starting to droop. It may be that the faster the weight loss with these medications and the more significant the weight loss, the less the body has the ability to adapt and adjust, and that can lead to more sagging at a faster rate.”

Celebrities Have Been Using Ozempic

Silhouette of celebrity in black dress being photographed by paparazziShutterstock

She also explains how celebrities are involved in the Ozempic craze. “The cost of ozempic is about $1,200 per month for off-label use of ozempic as a weight loss drug. And that is a major expense for most people, but usually not a major expense for most celebrities,” she says. “And similar to the lack of transparency when it comes to plastic surgery for weight loss, there is a similar lack of transparency. For example, Kim Kardashian had to fit into that Marilyn Monroe dress for the MET Gala, and as many have surmised, including the New York Times, she may have taken Ozempic to drop weight quickly to try to fit into that dress.”

Lose Weight Gradually

Legs of men standing on scales weight. Concept of health and weight loss.Shutterstock

“Remember that the safest way to lose weight is to do so gradually with these medications and with any other method as well. I'm anticipating that the popularity of facial filler, including fat transfer to the face, will increase because of medications such as ozempic,” she says.

Rising Demand for Lifting Procedures Due to Facial Fat Loss

“I also think that the incidence of lifting procedures such as brow lifts and facelifts will increase as well because, as we talked about previously, there's an increased sagging that occurs when the fat in our face declines,” he says. “We've been talking a lot about buccal fat removal on this channel and the risks of that procedure. And keep in mind that Ozempic is now introducing additional hollowing of the face. So if someone's had a buccal fat removal, then they go on Ozempic to lose further weight, now they're going to look even more hollowed out gaunt, and they may be looking to replace that lost volume.”

She Approves of Ozempic for People with Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes,Blood,Sugar,Level,Lancelet,GlucometerShutterstock

Is Ozempic a good idea? “Certainly for people who have type two diabetes, yes,” she says. “I like the fact that, in general, it's not associated with hypoglycemia, which is when, uh, the blood sugar drops to a dangerously low level. This can be a very serious issue for people as they're trying to get their blood sugar under control for people who are obese or are overweight with conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea.”

Try and Focus on Self-Love

“I would say you need to take a look at yourself in the mirror. And you know, the other issue I see with the increased use of ozempic for people who are just trying to lose that little bit of extra weight, it just speaks to this kind of viewpoint that, unfortunately, we as a society seem to have that our bodies, and I think in particular women's bodies, but certainly everyone's bodies are as well, we view our bodies as like a trend. Right now, it's going to look thin. But a few years ago, it was trendy to look voluptuous, but back in the nineties, it was also very in to look very skinny. I just think that we all need to learn to appreciate our bodies more, be kinder to our bodies, and maybe even just learn to love ourselves a little more,” she concludes. Do you want to lose weight but aren’t sure if you want to take medication to do it? You don’t have to, according to one expert. Susie Matychuk, AKA Coach Sooz, is “the world’s nerdiest personal trainer,” according to her YouTube bio. “The thing that is more effective than Ozempic is a healthy lifestyle,” she says at the start of the viral YouTube clip. In it, she discusses alternatives to the drug for weight loss in the form of foods and fitness.

She Grew Up Believing Medication Should Be a “Last Resort”

She starts by discussing her experience with medication. “I grew up with very traditional values, and I remember my mom telling me that medication should always be the last resort. In my early twenties, I started getting chronic strep throat, joint pain, and rashes. I had no idea that it was because of my poor diet and stress level,” she says in her post.

She Has Tried Taking Typical Medications But They Haven’t Worked

“I went to the doctor and got prescribed antibiotics and painkillers. My symptoms got worse, and I went to the emergency room thinking that I had rheumatoid arthritis or something, which is typical of Susie being overdramatic. The doctors were just as confused as me, and I realized the medical system is not made to help people with symptoms,” she says.

However, Healthy Lifestyle Has Helped Her Ailments Over the Years

She reveals that when she “started taking vitamins, eating a paleo diet, and spending more time outside, and I stopped taking medications,” her symptoms gradually went away. “That's a little bit about my story and why I am so passionate about a lifestyle approach instead of medication,” she says, adding that there are specific types of food and exercises that stimulate GLP-1, “which is the hormone that Ozempic” targets.

She Believes a Healthy Lifestyle Can Work Just as Well as Ozempic

She notes that while doctors are “prescribing it very generously,” they wouldn’t need to if people understood nutrition and exercise. “If we understood how to make our body have nutrients, then we wouldn't gain fat and feel the need for weight loss drugs at all,” she says. “I would definitely describe myself as anti-medication and pro-healthy lifestyle.”

These Foods Increase the Production of GLP-1

“GLP-1 is a hormone that is produced in the gut and the brain that slows digestion and lowers appetite. Your body is really good at making it on its own without any medical intervention,” she claims. “There are foods you can eat that increase the production of GLP-1, which will make weight loss easier. Eggs, avocado, nuts, and complex carbohydrates all have been shown to increase GLP-1,” she says. Yerba mate tea and black coffee also lower appetite.”

The Best Diet Is “Pretty Close” to Keto

The ideal fat loss diet that “stimulates a lot of GLP-1” is “pretty close to a ketogenic diet, which is very effective for reversing insulin resistance and losing fat,” she reveals. “Remember that fat loss is the goal, not weight loss because we wanna keep our muscle and lose the fat.”

Exercise Also Releases Chemicals That “Benefit the Body”

Exercise does not stimulate GLP-1,” but it does stimulate a whole bunch of other chemicals that benefit the body,” says Susie. “One of them is growth hormone or GH, and another one is BDNF,” she says about brain-derived neurotrophic factor. “GH is what starts the process of muscle growth. BDNF is what makes you smarter. So basically, exercise makes you jacked and smart.”

Ozempic Stops You From Releasing GH, Which Is the Hormone That Helps You Build Muscle

“Ozempic actually stops you from releasing growth hormone, which is why those who take it tend to gain fat and lose muscle. So in most cases, ozempic actually makes us lose the wrong type of weight,” she reveals.

These 5 “Primal Movements” Are the Best Exercises for Weight Loss

According to Susie, the best exercises are called primal movements. “They are movements that your body is actually designed to do. Injury and pain are the result of not being able to do primal movements. There are five of them, and they are squatting, hinging, lunging, pushing, and pulling,” she says.

The Most Effective Equation for Fat Loss? Diet and Exercise

“Basically, all you need to do to live a healthy lifestyle that is more effective for fat loss than ozempic is one, eat the GLP-1 stimulating diet, and two, practice your primal movements,” she says. “Every day, big pharma will keep making drugs and selling them to us as long as we are asking for them. And by taking them, you're still asking for them. So hopefully, this provided some clarity on what to do instead, which is to be healthy.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you thinking about using Ozempic or another weight loss drug? Before you schedule an appointment with an MD or telemedicine doctor, educating yourself about the drug will give you a better idea of whether or not it’s worth it. Here is everything you need to know about Ozempic—how it works and its benefits for weight loss, how much it costs, and the potential side effects.

How Ozempic Works

How exactly do weight loss drugs help you lose weight? “Ozempic enhances the release and action of insulin throughout the body, which helps with fat loss,” explains Dr. Sue Decotiis, MD, NYC weight-loss doctor.

Ozempic Shuts Down Your Appetite, and You Feel Full Faster

“Weight loss drugs also have a tremendous effect on satiety, shutting down appetite so the patient feels very full after eating much less food,” she explains. “Ozempic acts on receptors in the gut and brain that regulate appetite.”

It Also Resets Your Rate for Fat Burning

Ozempic also targets the centers in the brain that resets a person’s set rate for fat, Dr. Decotiis says. “When your set rate is higher for fat, you tend to hold more weight. When people go on Ozempic it resets the amount of weight that your body wants to hold onto.”

It Improves Insulin Function

The main way Ozempic works is changing the way insulin works, explains Dr. Decotiis. “When insulin works well, you can burn fat, when it doesn’t you gain weight,” she says.

It Helps Regulate Hormones

Portrait of stressed young housewife in modern kitchenShutterstock

“It helps regulate people’s hormones that have changed due to aging, stress, etc., so that they can lose weight,” she continues. “When people age their hormones change and it’s harder for them to lose weight. Ozempic stimulate the hormones needed in the body for fat loss.”

It Can Help with Self-Esteem and Rarely Leads to Depression

Relaxed serene pretty young woman feel fatigue lounge on comfortable sofa hands behind head rest at home, happy calm lady dream enjoy wellbeing breathing fresh air in cozy home modern living roomShutterstock

Dr. Decotiiis has seen a lot of positive effects on personality in her practice. “When people lose weight, they have better self-esteem, and they feel more confident in their own skin,” she says. “I have people who were using sedatives for anxiety or depression, and then when they took these drugs, they felt better and didn’t need them as much. My patient who had ADHD felt they had better focus and concentration. I have never had anyone who’s gone into depression or has felt worse after taking these drugs. My advice is to know who the patient is and supervise them accordingly.”

Ozempic Is Actually Only Approved for Those with Type 2 Diabetes

Measuring blood sugar with a blood glucose meterShutterstock

According to the National Library of Medicine Ozempic is approved to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes when other medications do not control the sugar levels well enough.

It Can Also Help with Heart Health

It is also used to reduce the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or death in adults who have type 2 diabetes along with heart and blood vessel disease. “It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis,” they say.

Wegovy Is Approved for Weight Loss

“Semaglutide injection (Wegovy) is used to reduce the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or death in adults who are overweight or obese along with heart and blood vessel disease,” they say, adding that “used along with an individualized low-calorie, low-fat diet and exercise program” it can help with weight loss “in obese adults or overweight adults who may also have high blood pressure, diabetes, or high cholesterol” and in obese children 12 years of age or older.

It Comes in a Prefilled Pen

Semaglutide injection comes in a prefilled dosing pen injected once a week under the skin. “Use semaglutide injection on the same day each week at any time of day. You may change the day of the week that you use semaglutide as long as it has been 2 or more days (48 or more hours) since you used your last dose,” they say.

You Usually Start on a Low Dosage and Work Your Way Up

Your doctor usually gets you started on a lower dosage, increasing it after four weeks. “Your doctor may increase your dose again after another four weeks based on your body's response to the medication,” they say.

First, amp up your fiber intake. “Eat 25–35g of fiber daily,” she encourages in her video. “Fiber helps keep you full and supports digestion. Great sources include fruits (apples, berries), vegetables (broccoli, carrots), legumes (beans, lentils), and whole grains (oats, quinoa).”

Hydrate

Hydration is also important. “Drink ½ your weight (lbs) in ounces of water. Staying hydrated helps control hunger and supports overall health,” she writes, offering the following tips:

-- Start your day with a full glass of water.
-- Drink water before main meals.
-- Keep a water bottle handy during workouts.
-- Add electrolytes for flavor if needed.

Amp Up Your Protein Intake

Next, make sure you are eating enough protein. “Eat 0.8–1g of protein per pound of your ideal body weight. Protein is key to preserving muscle while losing fat and achieving a toned look,” she says. Great protein sources, per Ekay? Chicken breast, white fish (cod, tilapia), whey isolate protein powder, canned tuna, egg whites, shrimp, extra-lean ground turkey, extra-lean ground beef, non-fat Greek yogurt, and tofu.

Get Your Steps In

Walking is also important. “Take 8,000–12,000 steps daily. Aim to hit this range consistently to maximize calorie burn through daily activity,” she advises.

Strength Training

Strength training is an important component of weight loss, says Ekay. “Lift weights 3–4 times a week,” she says. “Follow a structured program with enough volume for each muscle group. Use progressive overload by increasing reps, sets, weight, or time under tension. Start with compound movements (squats, deadlifts, bench press) and finish with isolation exercises.”

Snack on Low-Calorie, High-Volume Snack

She also recommends smart snacking. “Snack on low-calorie, high-volume foods. Examples: popcorn, strawberries, berries, and veggies with homemade dips like baby carrots, cucumbers, and peppers.”

Avoid Eating Carbs on an Empty Stomach

“Avoid eating carbs on an empty stomach,” she continues. “Have sweets or treats as dessert after your main meals. This helps control blood sugar and reduces cravings.”

Get Enough Sleep

Her last tip? Sleep 6–8 hours per night. “Sleep deprivation increases hunger and cravings the next day. If 7 hours of sleep isn’t possible, try a short midday power nap to recharge,” she says. Pasternak has taken a high-calorie favorite and given it a protein-packed twist. His “Get Lean” grilled cheese with tomato soup. “Nothing says childhood to me like an gooey gooey cheesy grilled cheese sandwich dipped in a tangy tomato soup,” he writes in the post. “But this tomato soup, grilled cheese combo, is not what you think. At less than 500 cal per serving, and a whopping 36 g of protein, this is actually a meal you can eat when you’re trying to get lean, and stay lean.” To make it add 2 cups bone broth, 4 cups tomato soup, and one can of garbanzo beans, drained, to a blender. “Blend until smooth, then heat in a saucepan,” he says. As for the grilled cheese, he warms up 45 calorie bread in the toaster then adds two slices of low-calorie cheddar. He places the sandwich in the air fryer for 5 minutes at medium heat.

Next up is his lean, green, body-reset soup. “When my clients have a nude scene in a film, or are heading on, vacation will be wearing bathing suits on a beach, they want to feel their best. Sometimes, simplifying a short nutrition plan, makes things a lot easier easier for them. Using one meal as your daily anchor, that stays the same every day. I use this vegetable soup recipe as my lunch or dinner for one whole week, and then add some flexibility with the other meals. It’s not really cutting or restricting your calories, too much, it’s more about creating simplification, and a very easy recipe that will keep you full for a big chunk of the day,” he says. To make it, blend together the following and heat up. “Also, this soup has approximately 42 g of protein… If you have 1/3 as a portion, you’re most of the way there for protein requirements. Some people, with larger protein requirements, might have a little bit of grilled fish, chicken, or even a dollop of Greek yogurt on the side,” he says.

Body Reset White Soup

Next up, his Body Reset white soup, “full of vegetables, loaded with fiber, full of quality, protein, and full of healthy fat,” he says. “Start off by slicing a whole white cauliflower, a quarter of a white onion, and a small bit of garlic. (I tried with shallots, but white onion works better here ) Place on a baking tray. Drizzle with olive oil and bake for 375 to 400°F, Fahrenheit for approximately 35 to 45 minutes. Poor at least 4 cups of chicken bone broth in a blender, then add all of the roasted vegetables, and one can of white beans. Any bean will work, but I’m staying with the white theme. Blend silky, smooth, and serve with a little shredded Parmesan on top. This makes anywhere from 4 to 6 servings,” he says.

Body Reset Red Soup

“If you liked my green soup, you’re going to love my GET LEAN Body Reset Red Soup!!” he says in another post. “Place six carrots, six tomatoes, two red peppers, and garlic and shallots to your liking. Drizzle with olive oil and roast at 400° for 35 to 45 minutes. Pour, 2 to 3 cups of chicken broth in a blender, then add all the roasted vegetables and one can of kidney beans ( any bean will work, but I wanted to stay with the red theme). I’ve tried this recipe before using a little bit of tomato paste to add thickness and sweetness, but it really doesn’t need it. Blend on high for approximately two minutes until silky smooth. Because of chicken broth and beans, the whole picture has approximately 55g of protein (even more if you use 3 cups of chicken broth).

So delicious, so silky, smooth, and so incredibly filling. The soup is a great tool when you’re trying to eat a little cleaner and possibly calorie reduce. Because the soup is so filling, it helps with curbing your appetite for several hours after,” he writes. “Warning, do not drink this whole recipe as one serving. Rather, this makes 4 to 8 servings, depending on how big or small you like your servings.”

Magical Mushroom Soup

He also shared a recipe for his magical mushroom soup. “As someone whos not a big fan of Mushrooms, I somehow have fallen in love with this mushroom soup. It is so simple to make and so incredibly delicious,” he says. “On a baking tray place 30 to 40 white mushrooms, you can really use any mushrooms, 1/2 white onion, 2 cloves garlic. Sprinkle some fresh thyme on top and drizzle some olive oil. Place in the oven at 400° for 30 minutes. Remove items from oven and place in blender. Add 3 to 4 cups of beef bone broth. Blend well for two minutes until silky smooth,” he instructs. “I like to serve with a little shredded Parmesan on top. This recipe is very low in calories and gets a decent source of protein from the broth. If you want to get even more protein, you can blend some tofu in seamlessly.” And if you enjoyed this article, don't missI’m a Nutritionist and Here Are 25 Weight Loss Truths You Need to Hear.
