Happy Birthday, Lauren Sanchez! This week, on December 19, the future Mrs. Jeff Bezos turned 55 – which is hard to believe, considering she looks half her age. The bombshell spent the day resharing all of the birthday wishes she received from her famous friends. In one of them, posed by Brooks Nader, she flaunts her impressively flat abs in a white crop top and matching skirt. How does she achieve her flawless figure at 55? Body Network rounded up all of her best diet and fitness tricks.

Strength Training

Lauren’s go-to workout is strength training. She works out with Wes Okerson, who also trains her billionaire fiancé, and their workouts are brutal. Recently, she shared details about her “upper body pressing day” workout.

  • Incline Dumbbell Press (3 sets x 12 reps)
  • Barbell bench Press (3 sets x 12 reps)
  • Dips on Parallette Bars (band assisted) x 12 reps
  • Push-ups (X 15).

Hiking

Lauren understands the importance of walking on an incline and hiking. As part of her workout, she spends 45 minutes completing a Zone 1-2 hike. She has also shared photos on social media of herself hiking in the wild. “Hiking is one of the best ways to get exercise. No matter what type of trail you find yourself on, hiking is a great whole-body workout—from head to toe and everything in between,” says the National Parks Service. Some of the physical benefits include building stronger muscles and bones, improving your sense of balance, improving your heart health, and decreasing the risk of certain respiratory problems. It also offers many mental health benefits, according to a Stanford University study.

Healthy Diet

Lauren cooks a lot on social media for her followers. It is one of the ways she maintains a healthy diet. “I have egg whites, sliced avocado, and coffee,” she told Self about her breakfast. Egg whites are a great source of protein, which will help you lose weight. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW) but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

Pilates

“Pilates changed my body,” Lauren told Self. “I used to run marathons, and I was never as fit and toned as I am now. I do it at a studio run by Saul Choza, and I'm indebted to him forever because my ass has lifted. We do a mix of mat and reformer.” Why is pilates a good workout? According to the Mayo Clinic, there are lots of benefits to the workout, as it “strengthens the body's inner core while increasing its flexibility resulting in improved overall health.” It can also promote longer, leaner muscles, injury prevention, relief from stress and back pain, enhanced athletic performance, and heightened mind-body awareness.

Family Dinners

Lauren makes dinner a family affair. “We can be kind of boring,” she told CNN. “I would say normal. We have dinner with the kids. That’s always fun and a great conversation. There’s seven between us, so there’s a lot of discussion.”

Hydration

Hydration is also an important part of her approach to health. Her favorite bottled water? “I have my Fiji water,” she told Self. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Coffee

Lauren is also caffeinated. “I always have coffee next to me,” she added to Self. According to the Cleveland Clinic, there are several benefits of drinking coffee in moderation. “It acts on your brain to improve memory, mood, reaction times, and mental function,” they say, citing a study finding that caffeine can improve endurance and performance during exercise. It is also antioxidant-rich, can ward off diabetes, prevent neurologic disease, lower cancer risk, and ward off depression, they point out.

Quick But Effective Workouts

Lauren gets a workout in even when she is short on time. “I only had 20 minutes to work out before taking kids to school. @wesokerson said it was enough time. He was right. Here it is,” she wrote in a post, revealing the leg workout routine “with some upper body/and cardio.” She recommends taking a one-minute break after completing the set and repeating for a total of 4 to 5 rounds.

  • Nordic hamstring Curl x 12 (Focus on the down phase and help yourself up by pressing with arms)
  • Thrusters x 12
  • Bench step overs x 20 (10 each side)
  • Step up knee drive x 20 (10 each side).

Lisa Rinna is steaming up the internet with her latest sizzling hot throwback snap. The 61-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum shared a provocative photo on her social media this week, eliciting a major response from her followers. “@gregswalesart you are a master I forget just how great I looked,” she captioned the photo of her flawless figure. “Flawless appeal,” commented one. “Age-defying beauty,” added another. How does the star look better than most people half her age? Here are ten things the Body Network knows about Lisa Rinna’s approach to diet and exercise.

She’s Lived in “Moderation”

“I’ve been really fortunate to get to 60 and be healthy, knock on wood,” Rinna told Cosmo in January 2024. “I keep a very moderate lifestyle. I’ve worked out since I was 16 years old. I live in moderation, even though it seems like I live very loudly and largely. I get my rest. I eat mostly healthy. I’m moderate. I don’t go crazy with anything. So there’s no silver bullet. There’s nothing that I’m super challenged with.”

She Has Good Genes

Lisa admits that genetics have played a role in her longevity. “I’ve been very lucky with my health. My body maintains itself pretty well at this age,” she added to Cosmo. “People are like, ‘How the heck do you do that?’ Genetics. I have a good base of genetics and I got lucky with that. So it’s not that hard for me. And I still look good, so that’s fun, easy, nice. I enjoy it. I present it the way I want to. And when I can’t do that anymore, I won’t.”

She’s “Aging Disgracefully”

Lisa has stopped caring about other people’s opinions. “I just don’t care about what people think about me, and that has been a tremendous gift that I have learned,” she said. “I’ve gotten to that place where at 60, I am so much more confident than I was at 30,” she continued. “I love this age because I’m freer and more confident and more passionate than I’ve ever been ... there’s this whole thing about aging gracefully, and I’m like, ‘I’m going to age disgracefully.’”

She Is a Believer in Hormone Replacement Therapy

Lisa is a fan of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopause symptoms. “Everything you can go through, I was going through it. I couldn’t sleep, the hot flashes, everything, and I was anxious and angry and just a mess,” she said about her experience with menopause. “If I’m going to have a better life by taking [hormones], I’m going to do it. If you took my hormones away, I would kill you, probably. I really think they’re helpful in so many ways.”

She Accepts that Aging Is Inevitable

Lisa has accepted that she is getting older. “I think it is about passion. You can’t fight aging. Aging is going to happen. How do I do it so that I feel good and I’m happy? That’s what I’m looking for, and I’m still passionate, and I’m still curious about life,” she told Cosmo. “I don’t necessarily need to look like I’m 20 years old, though that’s fun if you can get it. But you know what I’m saying? It’s about how do you morph yourself into this era and still feel good, be curious, be passionate, and be happy?”

Jazzercise

Lisa has been dancing her way to a hot body since she was a teen. “I’ve had the same fitness routine since I was 16,” she told Us Weekly. “It started with Jazzercise, and I’ve been consistent about working out ever since.”

Yoga

She also gets her zen on. “Yoga has been my life savior for 26 years I’ve been practicing now,” she added to Us. “It’s my consistent … you know, I do many workouts and I go through lots of different things, but I think most consistently practicing yoga has been the most helpful in keeping myself grounded and somewhat space … somewhat…”

She Follows a “Dirty Vegan” Diet

While Lisa eats some animal products, she tries to fill her plate with plant-based foods and produce. “I tend to call myself a dirty vegan," she told People. “I’m mostly plant-based—but if I do need to eat some meat, I’ll have it.”

Exercise Makes Her Feel Better

Lisa tries to focus on how exercise makes her feel, instead of just her looks. “I’m always doing something. I just do because I feel better,” Lisa told OWN. “If I feel better, I’m nicer. If I’m nicer, my life goes better.”

She Mixes Up Workouts

"My one piece of advice though is finding more than one form of exercise that you love to do and then mixing it up," Lisa explained on her website. "One day do the Pilates, and then the next day you play tennis. Maybe you can even incorporate a Friday night salsa dancing class with your girlfriends!" Lindsay Lohan is showing off her washboard abs in the latest issue of Flaunt magazine. In a new post shared by the star, she looks ab fab in a white tank top and low-slung jeans – but that’s not all people are talking about. The star of the Netflix hit Our Little Secret has experienced a recent glow-up, looking younger than she did a decade ago. Here is everything you need to know about the diet, workout, and wellness routine responsible for her ageless beauty, body, and overall happiness.

She Does Pilates

When describing her day to Flaunt, Lohan reveals that her mornings in Dubai, where she lives with her husband and son, involve a certain workout. “I do anything that anyone else does in their daily life. I’m up with my son in the mornings, I do breakfast with him, go to my pilates, come home for lunch, and go to the park, the same things that any normal mom would do in their daily life,” she says.

She Loves Fried Chicken

In 2020, on her podcast The Lohdown with Lindsay Lohan, she and her sister Aliana discussed their favorite snacks and fast food restaurants, playing "This or That" regarding their food favorites. When asked to choose between KFC or Popeyes, she couldn’t. However, she did cop to preferring KFC's coleslaw and chicken but mashed potatoes and gravy from Popeyes.

She Likes Starbucks Green Tea

Lohan is a tea drinker. Her choice between Starbucks and Dunkin'? The former, due to the fact that their iced green tea lemonade is her favorite.

Lohan loves to snack. On her podcast she revealed that one of her go-tos is wasabi peas. She is also a fan of shopping in the prepared food aisle to make healthy eating convenient.

She Maintains That “Everyone’s Getting So Thin Now,” Because of Ozempic

In an interview with Bustle, Lindsay discussed the Ozempic ear. “Everyone’s getting so thin now. I feel like everything always comes full circle again, so this is that moment, and this, too, shall pass. But it does seem like there’s pressure,” she says.

She Didn’t Pressure Herself to “Snap Back” After Childbirth

Lindsay told Bustle that she is proud of her body after having a baby and didn’t cave to the pressure to “snap back” when her son was born. “I was so attached to [Luai] that my last thought was going on a treadmill. I feel like we put so much pressure on ourselves to have to look ‘good’ so soon, but you look so beautiful [postpartum]. Give yourself time,” she said.

Lindsay carefully curates what she is exposed to online, avoiding fashion for the most part. “My stuff is positive manifestations and baby foods,” she told Bustle. She likes to be surrounded by “positive people,” she added. “People, places and things I’m a big believer in, and that definitely has shaped more of who I am today.”

She Exercises for Mental Health

Lindsay focuses on the mental health aspects of working out. “People forget about that part of it and will often just focus on the physical benefits. But when you work out, you're also getting endorphins that make you feel good, you sleep better, and you don't seem to stress out as much. I also like the idea that when you work out, you're taking time for yourself. It's self-care,” she told Health.

She Runs

Having “a routine” is key when it comes to exercise, she says. “That's really important to me. I work out three or four days a week. I'm not an outdoor runner, but I love the treadmill. I'll just put my headphones on, put the treadmill on an incline, and alternate between speed walking, jogging, and sprinting,” she told Health.

She Focuses on “Balance” with Her Diet

What is her diet? “I try to focus on balance. I love cooking and looking at recipes, so that's something that helps me incorporate healthy foods. And I don't have a sweet tooth. Sometimes I do crave fast food. When I do, I'll go for a kids' meal—that's my trick. My fiancé and siblings all make fun of me for it. I really only do that once in a blue moon. Again, it's about balancing those things with lots of other healthy, nutritious options,” she told Health.

She Meditates Daily

She also gets her zen on. “I meditate daily. Once a day, I take 10 to 15 minutes, and I do some breathing work paired with some spiritual prayers. It gives me time to focus,” she told Health. “I will actually go into the bathroom to meditate. I turn on the shower and leave it running while I do it. It may sound weird, but the sound of the water calms me—it's cozy and feels like no one can bother you.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Losing weight doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, sometimes all it takes is making a few simple lifestyle changes. Lyndsey Getty, founder of Thought Method, was in her twenties when she decided that she wanted to get in shape. Within a year, she dropped six dress sizes, going from a 12 to a 6, and has managed to keep the weight off ever since. She recently opened up about her weight loss journey in an interview with Body Network.

Lyndsey Could Barely Fit in a Size 12

Getty explains that she was motivated to embark on her weight loss journey after seeing a photo of herself and her friends during a night out. “I barely recognized myself,” she told us.

She Had Been Buying Larger and Larger Sized Jeans

“That was just the tip of the iceberg, though. I had been buying larger and larger jeans for a while and had to unbutton my pants when I sat down to sit comfortably. I had a lack of energy and just felt heavy and bloated a lot. Something needed to change.”

Lyndsey Dropped Down to a 6 and Has Been the Same Size for a Decade

She doesn’t remember her exact weight at the time but struggled to fit into a size 12. “5’9, now I am a size 6 in the same type of pants and aim to stay between 145 to 150 pounds,” she says. She has managed to keep the weight off for a decade.

She Started to Exercise

Lyndsey started exercising, focusing on building muscle. “I am part of the camp that believes that there is no ‘toning,’ there is building muscle and a woman building muscle will not make her bulky,” she says.

Lyndsey Focused on Building Muscle

“I focused on an overall body workout and would do upper and lower body days. I love the shape of my glutes and my back looks amazing, men have asked me for my routine.”

She Boxes, Jump ropes, and Does Lots of Strength Training Exercises

Her go-to workouts include boxing and jump roping. “You burn the most calories in the shortest amount of time with jump roping so it makes logical sense and boxing is great for several reasons. It is exciting to see yourself getting better at something,

Lyndsey Feels More Empowered

I feel more empowered, worked through a lot of emotions and felt like I came back to myself and my body. It was very cathartic. I also do bench press, glute bridges, deadlifts and then single leg exercises like sidekicks and clamshells,” she says.

She Follows the 80/20 Diet

Neapolitan,Pizza,With,Spices,,Tomatoes,And,Cheese,Mozzarella,On,DarkShutterstock

In terms of diet, she follows the 80/20 diet. "So I will eat simple whole food around 80 percent of the time and then have pizza, burgers, fries, etc., and sweets the other 20 percent,” Lyndsey says. Some weeks, it's 70-30. If I start to gain weight, I correct.”

Here Is What Lyndsey Eats for Breakfast

Lyndsey starts her day with a filling breakfast, steel-cut oats with cinnamon and blueberries, greek yogurt with raspberries, or eggs with cottage cheese and avocado.

Rainbow Salads for Lunch

“For lunch I love rainbow salads. You take 5 veggies of different colors and layer them in a bell jar with some dressing in the bottom. I make 5 at a time, store them in the fridge and when it is time to eat I take one out, shake it and grab a fork,” she says.

She Has a Sweet Tooth

“I have a sweet tooth so I also love banana, oat milk and cocoa powder smoothies for a snack. For dinner I will do some type of protein with lentils and broccoli for a few days and then take-out the rest.”

Lyndsey Eliminated Fast Food and Processed Meats

She also stopped eating a few things. “I eliminated fast food and barely eat any processed meats,” she says. “They are low nutritional value and have a lot of connections to cancer, so if I want a sandwich, I will make a turkey and slice it,” Lyndsey says.

She Loves Her Body Unconditionally

Her biggest achievement when it comes to her body? “That when I look at my body, instead of picking it apart, I love it unconditionally, and I appreciate all it does for me. My body is fascinating. All of the systems that work intricately together are utterly remarkable,” she says.

People Compliment Her

“I’ll always be annoyed by my belly bulge, but I have learned to accept it. I started by telling myself that I love myself when I look in the mirror and working to accept my body as it is. People responded positively to me with this new confidence, and it felt really good to come back to myself, so that validation kept this perspective alive.”

Working Out Will Not Make You Bulky, She Maintains

fitness, sport, training, people and lifestyle concept - group of women with barbells flexing muscles in gymShutterstock

One fitness or nutrition myth she once believed but wants to debunk? “That working out will make me bulky or manly, and therefore, men will not be attracted to me,” she says. Even when she could deadlift 265 pounds, “men definitely did not lose interest, and I am annoyed I was encouraged to focus on external validation in the first place,” she says.

She Was Just More Compact

“When I was at my most muscular, I was just more compact and, honestly, kind of annoyed because I worked so hard for these muscles, and you could barely see them unless I flexed,” Lyndsey says.

If Her Pants Fit, She Is Happy

These days, she doesn’t use a scale to reach her body goals. “If my pants fit,” is her goal. “Size 6 is the size I like to be at because I noticed when I am a size 6 I am eating mainly healthy and nutritious foods while also indulging enough that I am not restricting myself,” she says. Do you have a lot of weight you want to lose but aren’t sure how to get started? According to one weight loss warrior, all it takes is lifting one weight at a time. Georgia Lee, 53, of Bennet, Nebraska, was on the verge of becoming a grandmother when she finally embarked on her weight loss journey, losing 135 pounds in just 13 months. In a new interview with Body Network, she explains exactly how she did it.

Georgia Spent Half Her Life Being Obese

Georgia reveals that she spent a good portion of her life struggling with her weight. “I decided to lose the weight because I had been obese for 25 of my 52 years of life, and I really felt like I had a lot of life I hadn’t lived yet,” she says. “How was I going to be able to do that at 300 pounds? With her next stage, as a grandmother, quickly approaching, she needed to recalibrate her approach. “I want to be able to keep up with the kiddos,” she says.

She Felt Physically Sick

Overeating was a big issue for Georgia. “I physically felt sick so many times because I had eaten too much that day or the terrible heartburn I would have at night from eating before bed. I even slept in my recliner for five years because I had sleep apnea and I needed to sleep at an incline because I refused to use a CPAP machine. Everything was hard, even daily things like taking a shower or cleaning the house,” she says.

She Realized She Was the Only One Who Could Change It

“I was also extremely depressed and felt like I was just waiting to die. My weight was going up and up, and I was almost 300 pounds. It’s all I could think about,” she says. “I am a perfectionist, which also causes me to procrastinate because I know I have to put in 150% when I do something, so it’s going to be hard, so I put things off, but I knew I was the only one that could change it and I had to start somewhere.”

She Now Weighs Between 155 and 159

Her highest recorded weight was 291 at the doctor's office. “After months at Body Fit Training in Lincoln, NE, my current weight is 155-159,” she says.

She Does a Lot of Strength Training

According to Georgia, her legs and glutes have shown the most improvement. Her top exercises? Hip Thrusters are one. “I feel very strongly about doing them,” she says. She also likes box jumps. “I couldn’t do them when I started BFT. I also like the trap bar deadlift.”

She Also Runs

She also discovered running. “I never liked it, but now that I can do it, I find it rewarding,” she says. “I am running 4.5 miles in 40 minutes and getting ready for an 80-mile relay with some gym members.”

Here Is What She Eats in a Day

Her typical daily diet? “For breakfast, I will eat one-half cup cottage cheese and peaches, then after the gym, I will have a protein smoothie with banana, strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple with 30 grams of protein. For lunch, I will do an open-face sandwich with some cucumber or carrots. Supper is a protein like pork loin or chicken, or steak and a vegetable like asparagus or broccoli. And some days I will end with a small protein smoothie just to get a little more protein for the day,” she says.

She Stays Away From Fried and Fast Food

She also removed some stuff from her diet. “I was eating fast food at least once a day, sometimes twice a day, and now it’s very rare if I eat it at all. I also try to stay away from fried foods. I made a mistake at first and tried to cut out carbs, but I got too tired and realized I needed them. I eat the cake on birthdays, and I splurge on special occasions. I also quit drinking coffee. I drank a pot a day with creamer, and I didn’t want the extra calories, so I quit drinking it, and I just splurge on a froufrou coffee once in a while now,” Georgia says.

She Takes Supplements

Georgia also takes a few supplements to ensure she is getting the nutrients she needs. “The only supplements I take are a multivitamin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and unflavored protein powder (30g/day),” she says.

She Faces Setbacks But Works Harder

She does admit to experiencing some physical discomfort at 53. “I have a lot of aches and pains. I listen to my doctor and the trainers and work through or around issues when they come up,” she says. When she feels badly, she remembers how far she has come, “and then I work harder.”

It Takes Times

Her most significant achievement is her 135-pound weight loss, but she reminds everyone that it takes time. “Give yourself grace and be patient. It takes time. Don’t believe everything you read, do your research, and don’t overthink it,” she says.

Struggling to reach your weight loss goals despite your best efforts? You're not alone. Millions of Americans face this challenge daily, even with the newest medical options available. Dr. Jennifer McCann, board-certified in both OB/GYN and Obesity Medicine, has been helping women optimize their health for over 12 years. "I specialize in complete women's care that incorporates total wellness, including considerations in gynecology, hormonal status and weight optimization," says Dr. McCann. Read on to discover how to maximize your results with today's most talked-about weight loss treatments.

Understanding Weight Loss Injections

Before diving into strategies for success, it's important to understand what these medications actually do. "These injections include medicines like semaglutide, otherwise known as Ozempic, and tirzepatide (Mounjaro)," Dr. McCann explains in her video. While semaglutide has FDA approval for weight loss in certain individuals, Mounjaro is currently approved only for type 2 diabetes—though many patients experience significant weight reduction with both.

According to Dr. McCann, these medications work through several mechanisms: "They inhibit glucagon release which reduces hunger, decrease glucose production from the liver, delay gastric emptying, and reduce appetite." These combined effects lead to what can be substantial weight loss, particularly beneficial for people with limited mobility who struggle with exercise-based approaches.

Who Should Consider These Treatments?

"These medicines are not for everybody," cautions Dr. McCann. There are important contraindications to consider, including "a personal or family history of thyroid cancer or other endocrine problems or cancers." She emphasizes the importance of discussing your complete medical history with your physician before starting treatment.

Side effects can also occur. "They can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps," notes Dr. McCann. While these symptoms typically subside after a few weeks of treatment, she acknowledges they can sometimes persist longer.

Making the Most of Your Treatment

Dr. McCann views these medications as a starting point rather than a complete solution. "What I like to tell my patients is to use these medicines to really start your lifestyle change," she says. The initial weight loss provides momentum, but maintaining results requires building healthy habits during treatment.

With that foundation in mind, here are Dr. McCann's top three tips for maximizing your results while on weight loss injections:

Tip 1: Eliminate All Sodas and Sugary Drinks

Refreshing Bubbly Soda Pop with Ice Cubes. Cold soda iced drink in a glasses - Selective focus, shallow DOF.2. Sugary DrinksShutterstock

The single most important dietary change? "Stop all sodas," Dr. McCann states emphatically. This includes not just carbonated soft drinks but all sugary beverages like slushes and sweetened coffee drinks.

The impact is staggering: "Drinking one can of soda can make you gain 15 pounds over one year," Dr. McCann explains. "It's virtually impossible to lose weight and keep it off if you drink soda, especially more than one can daily."

This doesn't mean giving up caffeine altogether. Dr. McCann suggests alternatives: "Coffee is a great alternative, especially either black coffee or mixed with a little bit of stevia. A sugar-free skinny latte is also a great option."

Tip 2: Prioritize Protein with Every Meal

When appetite suppression kicks in, making your limited calories count becomes crucial. "Make sure that when you feel like eating, you get your protein, specifically lean protein," advises Dr. McCann.

There's science behind this recommendation. "Protein is what builds your muscle, and your muscle is what burns calories," she explains. "If you don't take in enough protein, you will lose muscle and won't be able to burn as many calories."

The metabolic benefits are significant: "Protein increases your metabolism by increasing your muscle, and that lets you burn more calories," says Dr. McCann. This creates a virtuous cycle that enhances the medication's effectiveness.

Tip 3: Incorporate Consistent Exercise

Exercise remains essential, even with powerful medications. "Exercise is very important for weight loss, for keeping the weight off, for your cardiovascular health," Dr. McCann emphasizes. She adds that it "actually is a natural remedy for anxiety because it releases cortisol."

For beginners, Dr. McCann recommends starting small: "If you're just starting out, 20 minutes four times a week through high intensity training, something like HIIT classes, will be just fine." As fitness improves, both duration and intensity can gradually increase.

Those with physical limitations shouldn't despair. "Exercise is still important, but you may need to talk to a personal trainer to see what exercises you specifically can do to help maintain your muscles," suggests Dr. McCann.

The Long-Term Perspective

These medications offer a valuable opportunity to reset your relationship with food and activity. "Make sure to use this weight loss boost to start your healthy living," Dr. McCann advises, "so that you can lose even more weight and be able to keep it off after you stop the injections."The habits you develop during treatment will determine your long-term success. By eliminating sugary drinks, prioritizing protein, and incorporating regular exercise now, you're building the foundation for sustainable results that last well beyond your final injection. Are you strength training to lose weight? If so, there are a few tweaks you can make to your routine to accelerate the weight loss process. Mahtab Ekay is a fat loss coach and social media influencer who lost over 20 pounds and helps others do the same. In a new post she shares a few of her hacks. “If you are lifting weights and your goal is to lose fat and build muscle at the same time, here are my 7 best tips to make it happen,” she writes.

Sets: Quality > Quantity

“If you have 3 sets planned for an exercise, those should be 3 working sets. This means they should be close to failure—where you can barely complete the last rep. The real growth happens in the 2-3 reps after you feel like you’re done,” she says.

Reps: Go Heavy

When it comes to reps, go heavy. “The myth that high reps with lower weight are better for fat loss needs to go. Instead, aim for 8-12 reps with heavier weights. This rep range is ideal for hypertrophy (muscle growth) while also building strength,” she claims.

Cardio: Time it Right

How you time your cardio makes a difference. “If you want to incorporate cardio, do it after your lifting session or on rest days. Doing cardio before lifting can sap your strength and take away from your ability to give 100% in your strength training,” she says.

Rest Time: Don’t Rush It

Don’t rush your rest time. “You don’t need to keep your heart rate up during your entire workout. In fact, the opposite is true! Take 1.5-2 minutes to fully recover and lift heavier during your working sets. Quality over speed!” she says.

Nutrition: Eat Near Maintenance

As for nutrition, eat near maintenance. “To build muscle and lose fat, I recommend eating close to maintenance calories or a slight deficit—not more than a 500-calorie deficit per day. Don’t go into a crazy deficit—it’ll make it harder to maintain your strength and muscle while losing fat,” she says.

Progressive Overload

“Even if you’re in a slight deficit, you should still aim to get stronger. Try to progressively overload your lifts by adding weight or increasing reps over time. Some lifts like the bench press might be harder to progress, but there are ways around it!” she says.

Start with Compound Movements

Finally, start with compound movements. “Always begin your workout with compound lifts (squats, deadlifts, bench presses) because they recruit more muscle groups, and since your energy is highest at the start, you can lift heavier and perform better,” she concludes. Starting an exercise routine when you're significantly overweight can feel impossible. For Nicole Collet, a weight loss coach who lost an impressive 130 pounds and kept it off for nine years, the answer wasn't complicated—it was walking for just 15 minutes every day. "When I was morbidly obese, there wasn't much I could do in the form of exercise because of my weight, but I could walk," Nicole explains. Her journey proves that sustainable weight loss doesn't require counting every step or spending hours exercising—just consistent, manageable action that anyone can follow.

Forget Counting Steps, Focus on Time Instead

Nicole's initial mistake was obsessing over step counts rather than creating a sustainable habit. "I set a goal to walk 10,000 steps every single day, but I'm an all or nothing person. So I set it in stone," Nicole shares in her post. At 275 pounds with painful plantar fasciitis, this ambitious target quickly became overwhelming.

The solution was simple yet effective. "I decided to start with 15 minutes because it wasn't too low, but it wasn't too high," she says. This approach allowed her to go at her own pace, taking breaks when needed, while still maintaining consistency. By focusing on completing 15 minutes daily—regardless of distance covered—Nicole created a sustainable habit she could actually stick with.

Invest in Proper Footwear for Success

One critical lesson Nicole learned was the importance of proper shoes. "I had a flip-flop thing. And I thought it would be a great idea with plantar fasciitis at 275 pounds to try walking in flip-flops," Nicole recalls with amusement. This uncomfortable experience left her feet so sore she didn't want to walk again.

"Wearing really good supportive shoes and investing in good quality ones like New Balance or whatever feels good on your foot is really important," Nicole emphasizes. Good footwear helped alleviate her foot pain and allowed her to gradually increase her walking time as she progressed.

Don't Fall Into the "Too Much Too Soon" Trap

Going overboard with exercise intensity was another pitfall Nicole and her husband Kyle experienced. "When we first started, we tried to do way too much, way too intense, go way too far from the house, go longer than the 15 minutes, and we would end up just exhausted and sore," Nicole explains.

Even years into their fitness journey, they sometimes make this mistake. Nicole shares, "In the last summer, Kyle and I were doing a mini cut. We just were like, hey, we're in a calorie deficit. It'd be a great idea to go for a two-hour walk in the forest." The result was extreme hunger and exhaustion that derailed their progress. Finding a moderate, sustainable pace prevents this self-sabotaging cycle.

Find Your Sweet Spot: Not Too Little, Not Too Much

The opposite problem—doing too little—can be just as detrimental. "Whenever we would go overboard, because Kyle and I are all or nothing, black-or-white thinking kind of people, we'd pull way back and then we would go from like an hour to five minutes," Nicole admits.

This all-or-nothing approach extended to their eating habits too. "We'd be like well I think we both need a large pizza each... or the opposite and we'd be like okay we ate too much yesterday so now let's only eat like egg whites and tuna," she says. Finding a sustainable middle ground—not too intense, not too easy—proved key to their long-term success.

Combine 15 Minutes of Walking With Portion Control

Nicole's 50-pound weight loss in three months didn't come from walking alone. "I paired my walking of 15 minutes every day with portion control," she explains. This combination created the calorie deficit necessary for significant weight loss.

The dietary component is essential, according to Nicole. "It's very important that you are eating in a calorie deficit and adding some walking or exercise that you like to do as a cherry on top because the diet comes first." This balanced approach addresses both sides of the weight loss equation.

Build Consistency Before Increasing Time

Nicole's 15-minute walks gradually became easier as she lost weight. "By the end of the three months, I had lost the 50 pounds. I also had increased my stamina and I was lighter," Nicole shares. Eventually, she could walk the full 15 minutes without stopping and her plantar fasciitis improved.

Through consistent effort, Nicole and Kyle gradually built their endurance. "We went from 15 minutes to now doing 60 minutes. It took a long time, but we slowly built and that's because it's sustainable," she says. This slow-and-steady approach has helped them maintain their weight loss for nine years.

RELATED:10-Min Walking Workout Burns Fat at Home, Says Coach

Why 15 Minutes of Walking Works Better Than Other Exercises

After trying numerous exercise options, Nicole and Kyle found walking most effective for long-term weight management. "After everything we've tried, we have found walking to be the best for burning fat, helping us lose weight," Nicole explains.

The simplicity and accessibility of walking makes it ideal for sustainable weight loss. "Walking at a leisurely pace consistently not only helped us lose 130 pounds each but it's helped us keep the weight off for over nine years," Nicole says. This low-impact exercise allows for consistent daily activity without burnout or injury.

Make Your 15-Minute Walks Enjoyable, Not Punishing

Nicole emphasizes the importance of enjoying your weight loss journey. "Making weight loss fun, not making it a punishment, is one of those things that I realized," she shares. Choosing activities and foods you enjoy increases the likelihood of sticking with them.

As Nicole puts it, "Consistency over perfection, slow and steady wins the race. Pick something you can do for exercise and pick things you like to eat so that you can do it for life." This mindset shift transforms weight loss from a temporary diet into a sustainable lifestyle.

The Mindset For Long-Term Success

Beyond physical changes, Nicole reminds us of the mental and emotional components of weight loss. "Remember friends that weight loss isn't just about the number on the scale. It's also about here and here—heart and mindset," Nicole encourages.Success comes from building sustainable habits that fit your life and preferences. "Fight through it. You can do it. Don't give up," Nicole advises. By focusing on consistency rather than perfection, anyone can achieve lasting weight loss results—starting with just 15 minutes of walking every day.
