9 Things You Need to Do to Drop Body Fat in 30 Days, According to Expert

One expert reveals her best fat loss tips.

Lauren_Gleisberg10

Do you want to get a jump start on your weight loss this month? It may be as simple as incorporating a few simple rules into your diet. Lauren Gleisberg is a fitness enthusiast and coach who specializes in “helping women achieve a fit and lean body through weight training and ultimately boosting their self-confidence and overall happiness,” she writes in her website bio. In a new post, she maintains that there are only three things you need to do in order to lose weight in a month. “If I wanted to drop body fat over the next 30 days, this is exactly what I would eat,” she says in the Instagram post. She also offers other tips in more of her social media posts.

Amp Up Your Protein Intake

Firstly, she recommends amping up your protein intake to 130 grams of protein per day. “Protein is the most satiating macronutrient, meaning it’s going to keep you feeling full. It is also the macro that will promote fat loss and weight loss. In a calorie deficit, eating enough protein is even more important to prevent burning off your hard-earned muscle,” she writes in her post.

Fuel Up with High Volume Foods

Next, she recommends fueling up with voluminous foods. “This is often overlooked! This is what will help you feel full & satisfied without going over your target calories to remain in your deficit (the only way our body burns fat),” she writes. “Low volume = nuts, cheese, peanut butter,” while “High volume = salad, bell peppers, cucumbers, watermelon.”

Stay in a Calorie Deficit

Finally, she says she should make sure to stay Within a calorie deficit. “It has to make a list bc our ability to maintain a calorie deficit is the deciding factor as to whether we will lose weight over the 30-day period. Basically, this means we consume less than we burn. It doesn’t have to be bland or boring. I LOVE what I eat even in a calorie deficit when fat loss is my goal,” she writes.

Short Rest Times While Weight Training

In another post, she reveals a few more tips to burn fat first. In terms of exercise, she suggests “short rest times while weight training.” Why? Weight training is still the best workout, even in a fat-loss phase. I suggest keeping rests short. This will help you achieve your goal of losing fat by keeping your heart rate elevated so that you can burn more calories.

Steady State Zone 2 Cardio

Next, she recommends steady state zone 2 cardio. “Add in a bit more cardio if fat loss is your goal. It doesn’t have to be intense, HIIT or running. A walk is great. A weighted vest is amazing. This isn’t too much for your muscles or joints, yet it's great for fat burning!” she says.

Hydrate

Some more body fat-dropping tips? Make sure to drink enough water, she urges in another post. “Hydration first thing in the AM (water before caffeine!),” she says. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is important for a variety of reasons. Water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Sleep More

Sleep is also crucial for fat loss, according to Lauren. “Prioritize your sleep… aim for 7-8+ hours,” she recommends. What are the health benefits of sleep? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

Walk

And get your steps in. “Walk more: in a parking lot on a work break, around the house, through the neighborhood, etc.,” Lauren writes. Going for a daily walk can be a game changer in terms of exercise, especially at a brisk speed. One study published in JAMA Internal Medicine found that walking at a brisk pace for about 30 minutes a day led to a reduced risk of heart disease, cancer, dementia, and death, compared with walking a similar number of steps but at a slower pace.

Get Portion Size and Snacking Under Control

When it comes to diet, she has a few more suggestions. “Curtail late-night snacking; have a food end time if it's helpful,” she writes. Also, learn portions! “Understand what 40 grams of carbohydrates of rice looks like, what 25 grams of protein in chicken is, how many grams of fat is in half an avocado… knowledge is power,” she says. Are you trying to shape up this spring? Incorporating a handful of healthy habits will help you achieve your goals. Keith Ozment is a fitness and weight loss coach specializing in helping people over 30 “repair metabolism, build muscle & burn fat!” he writes in his Instagram bio. In a new Instagram video, he reveals his top fat-burning and weight loss habits. “For the next 30 days focus on these 5 things and watch the body fat melt away,” he writes in the post.

Daily Walks

Daily walks are his top habit to add. “Simply walking more is like adding jet fuel to your metabolism!” he says. “Do this: Take a 20-30 min walk 6-7 days a week, or add 3,000 steps to your current daily average. (Every 10 minutes of walking = ~1,000 steps!) Set a timer while you are at work for every hour to go for a 5 min walk. I call these movement snacks! My favorite: Walk for 3 minutes then jog for 1 minute intervals.”

Hydrate

His next habit is hydration. “Water isn’t just for hydration—it impacts weight loss, energy, and gym performance,” he says. “Do this: I want you to purchase a 24 pack of bottled water and grab two bottles on the way out the door each morning. Drink those two bottles before noon every day.”

Track Your Food

Next, start tracking your food. “Simply eating ‘healthier’ isn’t enough. Awareness is key,” he says. “Do this: Use MyFitnessPal to track everything you eat. Most people realize they’re overeating calories and under-eating protein. Awareness = results.”

Plan and Prepare

Planning and preparation is also key. “Failing to plan is planning to fail! Meal prep saves time and keeps you consistent,” he writes. “Do this: Use the meal and recipe discovery section inside My fitness pal to create yourself a meal plan. Use Instacart for grocery delivery or pickup.”

Resistance Training

His final habit for fat loss is resistance training. “Building muscle = burning more calories, even at rest. Plus, it gives you the ‘toned’ look you’re after. Without it? You risk becoming ‘skinny fat,’” he writes. Do this: Train at least 3x a week. Try a simple push, pull, legs split. 3 sets of each. 8-12 reps.

  • Push: Push-ups, chest press, shoulder press, triceps
  • Pull: Deadlifts, pull-ups, bicep curls
  • Legs: Squats, leg extensions, calf raises.
Or.. to simplify it even more, do 25 push-ups and 50 body weight squats every day for 30 days.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Julie Clouse

Are you trying to lose weight and blast fat over 40? Julie Clouse is a social media influencer and fitness and macros expert who tries to “inspire others to be the best version of themselves.” In a new social media post she unveils her healthy habits for losing weight post-40. “Top 10 non-negotiables for fat loss after 40,” she writes. “It won’t always be easy, but it can be simple. Habits build momentum. 90% of people who love exercising & eating healthy didn’t start that way. But by staying consistent, they felt better, looked better, and fell in love with the process,” she writes.

Create a Calorie Deficit

The first thing to do is make sure you aren’t consuming more than you are burning. “Create a calorie deficit (at least 250 cals)” she writes.

Amp Up Protein Intake

Next, amp up your protein intake. “Eat 25-30g of protein at every meal,” she says. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

Track Food

Next, make sure you are keeping track of everything you eat. “Track your food for overall calories and protein,” she says.

Lift Weights

Strength training is another core habit. “Lift weights 3-4 times per week,” she writes. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Walk Up to 10,000 Steps Per Day

Next, get your steps in. “Get 8-10k steps per day—add a weighted vest for an extra burn!” she suggests. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

Eat Whole Foods

When it comes to diet, it’s not just about the numbers but the quality of food you eat. “Choose 90% Whole Foods,” she says.

Hydate

Make sure to stay hydrated. “Drink half your body weight (lbs) in ounces of water—I always add electrolytes too,” she writes. According to the Mayo Clinic, hydration is essential for various reasons. Water helps eliminate waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature regular, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Don’t Cut Out Entire Food Groups

You don’t need to be super restrictive. “STOP cutting out entire food groups. Instead of saying no sugar, allow yourself a small treat that fits your goals. No food is off-limits,” she says.

Limit Alcohol

Don’t drink your calories. “Limit alcohol—this one is HUGE!” she maintains. Not only is alcohol high in calories but the more you drink, they more likely you are to make poor food choices and neglect exercise.

Don’t Give Up

Finally, be patient. “STOP throwing in the towel after one bad day. Just get back on track the next day,” she reminds. “This is a lifestyle, NOT a diet. A few ‘bad’ days won’t ruin your progress. Ditch the dieting mentality and six-week plans—that was my BIGGEST mistake for years. Stay consistent, make it sustainable, and fit in the foods you love. It CAN work. You CAN be fit long after 40!” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you frustrated with all the one-size-fits-all fat loss methods that don’t seem to work for you? One expert claims there are a handful of easy and effective methods you can choose from to lose weight. Mateo Ruperti is a fat loss coach who uses his LWM Blueprint to help “busy people lose 20 lbs in 90 days.” In a new post, he reveals five methods that you can use to drop weight fast. “How to lose body fat in 3 months,” he writes.

Method 1

His first method involves a lot of coffee and water. “Drink a lot of water, so your tummy will be filled with water and you won’t have urges to eat,” he says. Drink black coffee: Caffeine will give you energy and will manipulate your brain into thinking you are not hungry. Use this when having cravings.”

Method 2

The second method involves exercise and a calorie deficit. “Be in a slight calorie deficit of 200-300 calories. Use high dense food to make you feel like you are full without eating so many calories,” he says. Also, do cardio. “Walk about 10,000 to 15,000 steps everyday. Walking is the best form of cardio to burn calories.” A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

Method 3

The third method is following the 30-30-30 Rule. “Do 30 minutes of cardio after 30 minutes of waking up and then eat 30 grams of protein. This is one the fastest ways to burn fat!” he claims.

Method 4

His final method? “Eat foods that are rich in protein,” he says, revealing the following recommendations:

  • Egg whites
  • Chicken
  • Beef
  • Broccoli.

Are you over 40 and feeling like weight loss just isn’t possible? That isn’t the case, according to an expert. According to her Instagram bio, Sarah Gearino is a Nutrition, Fitness, & Hormone Expert who specializes in helping women over 40 achieve their fitness goals. In a new post, she explains her expert advice about slimming down. “If I wanted to lose fat fast as a woman 40+ without wrecking my metabolism, here are the 10 things I’d do,” she writes in the post.

Increase Protein Intake

Her first suggestion is to increase your protein intake. “Aim for 30-40g of protein per meal to support muscle mass and satiety. Prioritize lean meats, eggs, fish, & plant-based sources,” she suggests.

Strength Train 4-5x Per Week

Her next tip is to lift weights four to five times per week. “Focus on progressive overload with compound movements (squats, deadlifts, presses). More muscle = better metabolism,” she says.

Walk 8,000-10,000 Steps Daily

It’s no surprise that walking – 8,000 to 10,000 steps per day – is also on her list. “NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) is one of the biggest fat loss drivers without stressing your body. I got a walking pad and swear by it!” she says.

Prioritize Sleep (8-9 Hours)

Getting sleep – eight to nine hours per night – is also helpful. “Poor sleep wrecks hormones (cortisol, insulin, ghrelin) and increases cravings. Create a wind-down routine, avoid screens an hour before bed, and take magnesium,” she says.

Stop Starving Yourself

Starving yourself won’t help you lose weight in the long run. “Undereating = metabolic slowdown and muscle loss. A small 15-20% calorie deficit (not drastic cuts) is more sustainable,” she writes.

Balance Blood Sugar & Cook All Meals

Keep your blood sugar balanced and ensure healthy eating by cooking for yourself. “Eat protein + fiber + healthy fats at each meal to avoid crashes and cravings. Use blood sugar hacks such as eating fiber first,” she suggests.

Cycle Carbs Based on Activity

You should also practice carb-cycling based on your workout. “Higher carb on strength training days (sweet potatoes, fruit, cassava). Lower carb on rest days (but still get fiber-rich veggies),” she says.

Manage Stress/Cortisol

Managing stress and cortisol levels plays a significant role in fat loss. “Chronic stress keeps cortisol high, leading to belly fat storage. Daily deep breathing, walks, adaptogens, and magnesium help,” she says.

Prioritize Strength Over Endless Cardio

Put your focus on strength training over cardio. “Too much cardio can burn muscle & slow metabolism. 2 short 15 min HIIT sessions/wk are great for fat loss without excess stress,” she says.

Properly Fuel Pre & Post-Workout

Make sure you fuel your body before and after exercise. “Eat protein + carbs before & after workouts to preserve muscle & improve recovery. Fasted workouts can backfire if stress is already high. In the least, drink BCAA’s before & after if you don’t want to eat,” she says.

Surround Yourself with Like-Minded People

One last suggestion? “Surround yourself with like-minded people who have the same goals. This goes a long way,” she promises. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

We are committed to bringing you researched, expert-driven content to help you make more informed decisions around food, health, and wellness. We know how important making choices about your overall health is, and we strive to provide you with the best information possible.

Starting a weight loss journey can feel overwhelming and intimidating. We often focus on the wrong things and set ourselves up for disappointment. Nikki Madoch (@NikkiGetsFit) knows this all too well. As a self-described "nutrition athlete" with ASM CPT and CNC certifications, Nikki has shared her experience losing an impressive 70 pounds on the Weight Watchers program. Her insights might just be the perspective shift you need to make your own journey more successful and sustainable.

The Right Motivation Makes All the Difference

Most people start losing weight to look better, but that's rarely enough to stick with it long-term. "For so long, I just wanted to look better, have a flat stomach, and look like other people. That was all it was," Nikki admits in her post. She found out that feeling better physically became what truly kept her going, not how she looked, which completely changed her approach and results.

RELATED:8 High-Protein Foods with Nearly Zero Calories That Melt Fat

Health Benefits Show Up Quickly

The physical improvements from healthier eating can pop up much faster than you might think. "After just one week, I could not believe how much better I felt," Nikki says. She noticed huge differences in her energy and overall well-being after cutting out fast food and focusing on portion control and foods that actually nourished her body.

Feeling Good Trumps Looking Good

Lasting weight loss comes from caring more about how your body feels than how it looks. "What keeps me going is how good I feel when I take care of myself, eat healthy, nourish myself, drink enough water, get enough sleep, and exercise," Nikki points out. While looking better in clothes feels nice, it's the improved quality of life that really drives her to keep making healthy choices.

Body Image Issues Can Actually Increase

Surprisingly, losing weight doesn't magically fix body image issues and might even create new ones. "I didn't know that I would have more body dysmorphia as I lost weight," Nikki confesses. She caught herself becoming more critical and self-conscious about specific body parts during her journey than she had been at her heaviest weight.

RELATED:20 Foods You Didn’t Know Were Ultra-Processed

The Mental Game Gets Tougher

Weight loss demands as much mental strength as physical discipline, especially as you make progress. "It was a whole new mental game that I had to work through," Nikki says about dealing with increased body scrutiny. Learning to shift her focus back to health and strength rather than picking apart her physical imperfections became crucial for her continued success.

Don't Be Afraid to Use All Your Resources

If you're following a structured program, take full advantage of all the flexibility it offers. "I was too scared to use my weeklies," Nikki talks about her initial approach to Weight Watchers points. She later discovered that using all her allotted weekly points actually helped her lose more weight rather than slowing her down.

Strategic Indulgence Works Best

How you use extra calories or points matters more than whether you use them. "What worked best for me was using my weeklies on different snacks that I like—protein bars, nuts, peanut butter spread," Nikki shares. She found that spreading out enjoyable foods throughout the week worked better than saving everything for one big cheat meal.

RELATED:I'm a Nutritionist and These are the Best Banana Recipes For Weight Loss

Variety Prevents Burnout

Eating the same healthy foods over and over leads to boredom and eventually giving up. "It is very easy to get burned out of things, and it's very important to switch things up," Nikki warns. She learned to keep introducing new recipes, ingredients, and meal ideas to keep her plan interesting and something she could stick with.

Try One New Thing Weekly

Small changes make a big difference in keeping meals from getting boring. "Just trying to add a new recipe each week, just a simple recipe, so that I'm trying something new," Nikki suggests. This approach keeps meals exciting without becoming overwhelming or taking too much time.

The Scale Doesn't Tell the Whole Story

Weight is just one measurement and often a misleading one, especially when building muscle. "Weight and the number on the scale is not everything," Nikki insists. She weighs 190 pounds at 6 feet tall and feels healthier now than when she weighed less but had less muscle.

RELATED:What Happens When You Quit Soda, According to a Nutritionist

Progress Photos Tell a Better Story

Visual proof of body changes can be more motivating than scale numbers. "I'm actually really happy that I did start taking progress pictures from the start," Nikki mentions. These photos helped her see that she looked smaller at a higher weight due to muscle gain, proving that the scale wasn't telling her the full story of her success.

Embrace Multiple Ways to Measure Success

Relying only on weight can lead to frustration, especially during plateaus. "Having different ways to not focus so much on the scale to see your progress is so important," Nikki talks about. She figured out how to judge her progress through how clothes fit, strength gains, and overall wellbeing rather than obsessing over a specific number.

Final Word

Nikki's journey shows that lasting weight loss comes from focusing on health, enjoyment, and sustainable habits rather than just appearance or numbers on a scale. By shifting your perspective on motivation, measurements, and what truly matters, you can create a healthier relationship with food and your body that lasts far beyond reaching your goal weight. Is your evening routine supporting your weight loss goals? While you are likely focusing on changing your daily habits if you are trying to lose weight, you might be overlooking some very important ones: Your nighttime habits. Certified fitness trainer Jason Kozma, aka Mr. America is a champion bodybuilder who trains clients at Santa Monica-based High Performance Personal Training and explains that your before-bedtime habits can influence the way you are burning fat overnight. “While there's no magic formula for overnight weight loss, here are some evening routines that can support your overall weight loss efforts,” Kozma says. Here are 15 evening routines you should incorporate into your life to lose more weight.

If you want to lose more weight, drink more water. Nightly hydration is key, says Kozma. “Drink a glass of water before bed to stay hydrated and avoid late-night snacking,” he recommends. How much water should you aim to drink every day? While the exact amount will vary by gender, weight, activity level, and climate, the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine says that men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.

Benefits include:

  • Gaining a new perspective on stressful situations
  • Building skills to manage your stress
  • Increasing self-awareness
  • Focusing on the present
