Coach Transformed Her Perimenopause with These 8 “Non-Negotiable” Habits

She is in the “best shape” of her life at 41 while putting in “way less effort,” she claims

Are you starting to experience hormonal changes that are getting in the way of your weight loss? Marci Nevin is a perimenopause weight loss and wellness coach who helps women in perimenopause lose weight, get their “energy and waistline back,” and “beat belly fat and bloating,” she says in her Instagram bio. In a new social media post she reveals a handful of daily habit that help her keep fat at bay in her forties. “My daily non-negotiables that help me stay lean with less effort as a 41 year old woman in perimenopause,” she writes.

She Used to Go Over the Top with Diet and Exercise

“All through my 20s and up until my early 30s, I hustled my a** off to maintain a lean and fit physique. I was lifting 5-6 days a week, doing cardio, and adding extra conditioning types of workouts on top of it. While also eating a restrictive diet and rarely allowing myself to indulge in any food that wasn't ‘clean’,” she writes.

When She Put in “Less Effort” Her Body Transformed

It wasn't untilher health “hit rock bottom” and was forced to slow down that her body transformed. “But with way less effort. Wild, right?” she says. “Now at 41, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I easily maintain a body that is lean year round without putting in so much intense work or giving up the food I love. This is my playbook.”

1. She Doesn’t Hit Snooze

Marci’s health habits start literally the second she wakes up. “I never ever EVER hit snooze,” she writes. “Instead I get up right away, make my bed and start my morning routine.”

2. Meditation

Next up, she gets her zen on and focuses her mind. “I meditate, journal, and prayer to prime my mind and set the tone for the day,’ she says.

3. Walking

“I follow that up with a walk during sunrise. This has helped more than anything with keeping me energized and focused throughout the day and helping with sleep,” she continues. She calls walking, the “real secret weapon” for maintaining her weight. “I get 10,000 steps minimum,” she says.

4. Macro Tracking

Next up, she focuses on nutrition. “I track my macros so I know exactly how many calories I'm eating. Even though I no longer pre-log my days, I always have an idea of what my meals will look like and repeat the same ones often to reduce decision fatigue. I always get 100-120 g of protein and 25 g of fiber daily,” she writes.

5. Strength Training

Strength training is also part of her program. “ I move my body every day. Lifting is the priority and I do that 4x/week using a program designed for building muscle. I do Zone 2 cardio for heart and brain health,” she says.

6. Hydration

She also makes sure to hydrate. “I drink 20 oz of water first thing in the morning and before going for coffee or caffeine,” she writes.

7. High Protein Breakfast

Don’t sleep on your first meal of the day. “I also eat a big a**, high protein breakfast that keeps my hunger and cravings in check all day so I don't end up mindlessly snacking,” she says.

8. Sleep

Her last habit is giving her body the opportunity to regenerate and recharge. “I'm in bed by 9:30 and aim for a minimum of 7 hours sleep. I have a calming routine to help me relax and am off screens at least 1 hour before,” she writes.

Her Approach Is Sustainable

“I'm not special. But am a testament to what you can achieve with a sustainable approach and consistent effort. If you want it you still gotta work for it. But that can be done in a way that feels more easeful and enjoyable,” she says. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

More For You

Have you struggled to lose weight but failed time and time again? You may have to shift your mindset, says one influencer. Ashley Hughes is a mother of four who regularly shares her weight loss journey. In a new video, she reveals that establishing three healthy habits was a core part of her slim-down success, ultimately helping her drop 40 pounds.

It’s Never Too Late to Reinvent Yourself, She Says

At the start of the clip, she explains that she wants to discuss “reinventing yourself” using her own story. “I think most of us at some point think it's too late to create changes, even if deep down we really want something,” she says in the video. She hit a point “where I felt I wasn't in control of so many areas of my life, and that I just needed to accept where I was physically, financially, emotionally, really, I just felt every aspect of my life just felt sad,” she said.

She Struggled to Lose Weight for Years

“Up until that point, I had done countless weight loss challenges in my life,” she continued, explaining that after having each of her babies, “the weight seemed just to be a little more difficult to get off. You know, I'd gain weight with each pregnancy and then not lose all of it. And then I was pregnant again, which meant more weight.”

She Hit Rock Bottom

She finally hit a bottom with her weight. “This was all me. And I could accept my past decisions of never finding time to exercise and not paying attention to my nutrition. I could have accepted that this is just who I am. So why bother even trying? For a while, I actually did feel that way because I had tried so many things in the past, yet I always found myself back here, back in the same routine of eating habits and having no physical activity, a part of my daily routine. This is where I ended up every single time.”

A Discussion with Her Husband Sparked Change

However, on the last day of October, she sat down with her husband and talked about “all of the areas of my life that I wasn't happy with and that I really wanted to change,” she says. “What was interesting was the whole month of October when I was living in a state of acceptance, you know, accepting the fact that my past decisions had made up my life and that this was just who I was.”

She Decided She “Deserved More”

“When I sat down with my husband, and I had this conversation with him and just opened up about the fact that I wasn't happy and I wanted to change at that moment, I immediately felt better. I felt happier. I felt excited. It was like this moment of realizing, no, I am the creator of my life, and I get to decide what my next chapter looks like. That immediately lit a flame inside me. And I believe it takes this realization moment for all of us to decide we want more or deserve more finally, and we're far more capable of maybe what we are accomplishing,” she says.

She Committed to 6 Months

“On November 1st, I remember waking up with a new feeling inside of me that I wanted to change but wasn't sure how I was going to go about it,” she admits. She “stumbled across a little graphic on Instagram that said something along the lines of, if you committed yourself to six months of doing these things on this checklist — some of those items were working out four to five times a week, personal development, going for walks, getting eight hours of sleep, cutting out negativity — and I remember reading that and feeling a fire inside of me, and I knew that I had to do this. I had to commit myself to six months of really trying.”

She Focused on Personal Development

And so she started “spending time daily in personal development, meditating and focusing on removing negativity from my life, which included negative thoughts or self-talk, this was literally the answer I needed to change my life and to reinvent myself completely,” she continues. She also stopped staying up late and eating unhealthy food. “Let me tell you something I really found to be true during this whole journey. The day you decide to change, and you wake up, and you're crossing things off your checklist that are helping you move the needle towards your goals, you will never be happier than when you are working towards something,” she says.

Habit 1: Immerse Yourself Into Your New Lifestyle

What are some different ways to apply this idea and create a new daily routine that you will stick to? Here are the three habits. The first is “to immerse yourself into the world of whatever it is you're trying to go after,” she says. “To really completely reinvent yourself, you've got to be eating, sleeping, breathing, this new lifestyle.”

She recommends “following accounts on social media that will inspire you every single day to stick to your new lifestyle, unfollow anyone who maybe causes you to have negative thoughts or will distract you from becoming this new version of yourself, find podcasts, YouTube, videos, books, eBooks, all things related to your topic,” she suggests. “Maybe you've heard of the power of proximity, who you surround yourself with, you become, and this can absolutely be virtual. You don't have to know these people to be inspired by them and for them to influence your daily decisions.”

Habit 2: Create Daily Action Step Goals

“I would also make a point to create daily action step goals. Make the action your goal. So, instead of saying, my goal is to lose 20 pounds, that can be your big goal, but your goal today is to get your workout in and to stick to your meal plan. When the day is over, you will feel so much more accomplished because you achieved your goal,” she says. “When you do this consistently, your big goal happens by default. This can be applied to any goal you have. Create action step goals on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis that are bringing you closer to your big goal.”

Check in with Yourself Nightly

“A very important step is to check in with yourself every single night. Reflect on your day and the decisions you made. Did you make decisions based on your old past self, or did you make choices? This renewed higher version of yourself would make the simplest way to stay on track when it comes to reinventing yourself is to consider your highest self in every decision you make each day. Is this the choice the higher version of you would make? If not, don't do it, and eventually, you will become this person. In fact, the decisions that used to be so hard or uncomfortable for you to make will become uncomfortable for you not to make them because this is just who you are now. This is the new you,” she concludes. And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you in your late thirties or early forties and struggling to lose weight? You may need to update a few simple habits, says one expert. Gabrielle Carolyn is a hormone and cortisol coach who specializes in helping women over 40 “lose fat” and “gain energy” in the “natural” way. In a new social media post, she discusses her own journey of losing 12 pounds leading up to 40 and getting in the best shape of her life. “Curious how I finally broke through my fat loss plateau?” she writes in the post, going on to reveal the four game-changing habits that enabled her to do it.

She Struggled to Lose Baby Weight in Her Mid-30s

“Turning 40 in July has me feeling amazing! But last year? It was a different story. After having my kids in my mid-30s, I struggled to lose that extra weight. It felt impossible… until I found a routine that really worked for me. Now, I’m so excited to share what made the difference!” she writes in the post.

Cortisol Was the Culprit, She Claims

Cortisol, the “stress hormone,” can “make fat loss—especially around the belly—super frustrating,” she continues. “Getting a handle on healthy cortisol is what changed everything.” Here are the four key changes she made to help her lose weight and keep it off.

1. She Switched Up Her Workouts

The first thing she did? “Switched up my workouts,” she revealed. “I moved from cardio to strength training, which boosted my metabolism and helped burn more calories.”

Strength Training Is Great for Weight Loss

The Mayo Clinic supports strength and weight training to help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

2. She Prioritized Sleep

She also stresses the importance of getting enough rest. “Prioritized sleep,” is her second healthy habit for losing weight. “Getting consistent, quality rest balanced my hormones and improved how I felt overall,” she says.

Other Benefits of Sleep

According to the Sleep Foundation, weight loss is one of the many benefits of getting enough sleep. Others are, it is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

3. She Hydrated

Drinking liquids was also key in her journey, she claims. She explains that she “stayed hydrated,” and it was very beneficial. “Upping my water intake and adding electrolytes with trace minerals helped me stay energized and balanced,” she says.

Benefits of Hydration and How Much Water You Should Drink

What is so important about hydration? The Mayo Clinic explains that water helps get rid of waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature normal, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues. According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids.

4. She Took the “Right” Supplements

To compensate for nutritional deficiencies, she took “the right supplements,” she continues. “My Cortisol Combo was the game-changer in managing stress and staying on track.”

The “Small Changes” Made a Big Difference

In one viral video, she discusses hormonal health and confessed that she made several mistakes in the past. “Let’s talk about the morning routine I did for years that, looking back, was pretty terrible for my hormone health,” she says in the Instagram video.

She Sacrificed Sleep

First, she neglected rest. “Without fail, I'd wake up early to work out before my ward rounds, even if it meant sacrificing sleep,” she says. Why is sleep important? According to the Sleep Foundation, getting enough z’s is a mood booster, promotes heart health, regulates blood sugar, improves mental function, restores your immune system, helps relieve stress, and aids in weight loss.

She Failed to Nourish Her Body

She also failed to nourish her body. “And more often than not, quite a lot of it, I would feel myself only on black coffee because back then fasted training was all the rave,” she continues.

She Stressed Her Body with High Intensity Workouts

“And if my body wasn't stressed enough as it was, the workout was always high intensity, a bootcamp or CrossFit session, I'd gotten into the cycle of believing that the workout didn't really count unless it left me on the floor afterwards, or I burned X amount of calories while I know better,” she maintains.

These Habits Damaged Her Health

“Now, the reality is a lot of these habits are so normalized in the name of wellness and help. Ironically, for me, that led to the opposite. Irregular periods, constant fatigue, irritability, and often falling ill,” she reveals.

She Now Prioritizes Sleep, Eats Nourishing Food, and Engages in Restorative Exercise

“True health to me now is prioritizing sleep, nourishing food, healthy hormones, and training that I enjoy and that serves my body rather than pushing it to its limits,” she says, “So before picking up a healthy habit you saw online somewhere, ask yourself this, what is true health to me? And does this actually align to that?”

In the caption, she rehashed the “habits that I now know deteriorated my hormonal health.”

  • Consistently sacrificing sleep for more time training
  • Training fasted and often not having my first meal until lunchtime.
  • Doing the above and then choosing a high-intensity workout

“I’m not saying these alone are inherently bad for you - it’s about finding what your body feels best with. I still do high intensity exercise but not every day and never fasted. I sometimes get up early to train but I also sometimes lay in when I need to,” she says.

“This is extremely common for many people,” says The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian. “Putting so much pressure on themselves to be ‘perfect’ with their exercise and diet routines that they actually become unbalanced, injured, sick, and unhappy.”

She notes that recovery is just as important as pushing ourselves. “Sleep, stretching, foam rolling, meditation, nutritious foods, massage….all great ways to incorporate recovery that our bodies need, especially as we age!” she says.

Are you struggling to lose weight? It could be because you are saying the wrong things to yourself. Hannah White is a personal trainer and online coach who uses her personal experience of losing weight to help others achieve their diet and fitness goals. In a recent post, she revealed a lot of the mistakes she made and things she said to herself that prevented her from losing weight. “The five things limiting beliefs and ‘excuses’ were some of the MAIN things holding me back from achieving my fitness goals in my 30s,” she writes.

She Stopped Saying She Was Too Old to Lift Weights

The first things she quit saying? “I’m too old to start lifting weights,” she reveals. “Age is just a number, and if you’re still able to move your body, then there are ALWAYS things you can do! “If you can sit down & stand up from a chair 🪑 You can ‘Squat.’ If you can pick up shopping bags off the floor 🛍️ You can ‘Deadlift.’ Start small & build from there. You’ll be surprised at what you’re able to achieve with consistency.”

She Stopped Blaming It On Her Metabolism

The second thing she stopped saying: “I have a slow metabolism & can’t lose belly fat,” she reveals. “If you have a diagnosed medical condition, then you should absolutely seek help from your doctor! But for everybody else… your activity level & diet are the main factors that impact your ability to lose belly fat.”

She Stopped Blaming It On Being Premenopausal

Next, she stopped making an excuse that “I’m perimenopausal now, which is making it hard to lose weight,” she says. “True. But it is not the actual hormones that affect your metabolism. Hormones massively affect how we feel, yes! And how we feel affects our daily actions and habits.”

These Things Helped

She recommends doing these things to help:

  • Improving the quality of your sleep
  • Managing stress
  • Reducing alcohol & caffeine
  • Focusing on fuelling your body correctly
  • Daily walks and regular weight training.

She Stopped Blaming It On Genetics

“It’s my genetics” is another excuse she stopped making. “Genetics play a role. Let’s face it. We’re not all created the same. Some people inherit a higher basal metabolic rate (BMR), which means they burn more calories when they are at rest. And some people are more ‘naturally’ athletic. However, lifestyle choices & actions also affect your BMR & what your body is capable of!”

She Stopped Saying She Didn’t Have Times

The last thing she stopped saying? “I don’t have time to exercise & eat healthy,” she reveals. “You don’t need to be perfect to make progress with your fat loss & fitness goals. “Doing small things consistently will make a MASSIVE difference, especially if you’re starting from scratch.”

Here Are Some Tips

She offers the following tips to help with weight loss. “Things like going for a 10min daily walk, eating more protein, adding a portion of fruit or veg to each meal, drinking a glass of water every hour or so, etc.,” she recommends.

She Stopped Exercising to Lose Weight

In another post, she reveals three mistakes she stopped making to lose fat in her 40s. “I stopped seeing exercise as a way to burn calories and started training to get stronger instead,” she says. “This really helped to shape and tone my physique, as getting stronger meant that I built muscle and lost fat in all the right places. Plus, the extra muscle I built burns more calories at rest, so I found I was able to eat more food and still lose weight.”

She Stopped Trying to Eat Less Food

“I stopped just trying to eat less food and started tracking my macros and eating the right quantities of nutrients for me and my goals,” she continues. “This gave me more energy for my workouts and got rid of my sugar cravings for good. “It also allowed me to still eat all the foods I enjoyed without feeling guilty as I knew I was eating what I should be.”

RELATED: Nutritionist Reveals the 3 Morning Habits That Helped Her Clients Burn Fat Without Dieting

She Stopped Drinking Alcohol

“I stopped drinking alcohol,” she says. “This one speaks for itself. Better sleep. More energy. Less anxiety and mood swings. More focus on my goals. Also, it’s not just the empty calories in alcohol that affect your weight loss efforts. Alcohol halts your body’s ability to burn fat and build muscle. So it’s definitely something to reduce or eliminate completely if you want the best results.” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss I’m a Nutritionist and Here Are 25 Weight Loss Truths You Need to Hear.

You've tried every diet, hit the gym religiously, and still watch the numbers on your scale refuse to budge. The frustration of feeling stuck despite your best efforts is all too familiar. When 26-year-old content creator and fitness enthusiastHailey Gamba hit this same wall, she discovered an approach that helped her lose 31 pounds without intense workouts or complicated meal plans. Here's how she transformed her body and mindset with a few key changes that might work for you, too.

The Wake-Up Call That Changed Everything

"I remember reading my chart and seeing next to my weight and height the word 'obese,' and I remember being floored," Hailey shares in her post. At 186 pounds, this medical assessment became her turning point. "I erased it out of the chart and wrote, I am not obese," she recalls, highlighting her initial denial. Despite maintaining an active lifestyle and regular gym attendance, she realized her approach wasn't working.

Breaking Free from Hidden Anxiety

What started as simple habits - staying in the car while others went into stores or avoiding certain social situations - revealed deeper issues. "I was developing social anxiety due to my weight, and I didn't even realize it," Hailey reveals. "I had internal body hatred, but I was constantly tricking myself, saying 'you're confident, you're happy.'"

The Turning Point at 26

"I remember saying to myself, I want this year to be intentional. I want to feel the most Haley this year," she shares about her decision to change. "I want to feel like I love myself through and through. I feel sexy, and I feel seen because I love who I am on the inside."

The Fasting Strategy That Worked

Following her mother's guidance, Hailey adopted a new approach to eating. "I would fast until probably three o'clock, and then I'll eat my first meal," she explains. Her typical meals included simple combinations like tuna, rice, and avocado for lunch, followed by a lighter dinner of soup or lean fish with vegetables. "The first week, the second week was the hardest weeks of my life," she admits.

Key Changes Beyond Fasting

The transformation went beyond just meal timing. "No more Starbucks, no more sugary drinks at all," Hailey states. She eliminated alcohol, bread, pasta, and potatoes from her diet. "I must have had some sort of allergic reaction or inflammation issue due to what I was eating," she reflects. "Although I was working out every day, it didn't matter because the diet was not matching."

Managing Food Obsession

"The constant obsession with food was the issue for me. Some people really do obsess over food all day," Hailey shares. "The food noise was bothering me. I was thinking about food all the time." Her solution involved staying busy with work and other activities to avoid focusing on food.

The Results and Lifestyle Shift

The impact was dramatic and quick. "I lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks," Hailey shares. Beyond weight loss, she experienced significant improvements in comfort and confidence. "There's something about sitting down and not feeling my stomach hanging over... The confidence it has brought me - no food will ever feel as good as this type of skinny feels for me."

A New Approach to Exercise

"I started implementing low-impact workouts," Hailey explains. "I started walking, guys, walking, walking, walking, walking. Does the body wonder? And I'm not talking about walking a mile. I'm talking about putting your watch on and walking 5, 6, 7 miles." She also incorporated Pilates and lightweight training, noting, "Bar will have you punching the air a hundred million times with two-pound weights, and it tones you up."

Sustainable Success Tips

For maintaining results, Hailey emphasizes the importance of progress photos and clothing fit as accountability tools. "Look at pictures of yourself week by week," she advises. "My clothes held me accountable when I saw my clothes coming out to here... nothing fits me." She emphasizes that moderation is key: "When people say eat in moderation, this is what they meant. Eat mostly good. But when you go out with a friend, you can have a piece of bread. You won't die."

The Hormone Connection

"It was a reset for me. But everybody's body is different. Everyone's hormones are different. Everyone's cortisol levels are different," says Hailey. The role of hormones in weight management cannot be overlooked. "There are five main hormonal imbalances that impact women as they go through perimenopause that directly impact their ability to lose weight," explainsSarah Gibson, MPAS, PAC, HWC, an expert in weight loss and hormones. These include adrenal fatigue, sex hormone imbalance, vitamin D deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, and insulin resistance.

Why Your Exercise Strategy Matters

Hailey's switch to low-impact exercise aligns with expert recommendations. "The two biggest mistakes that women make when trying to lose weight after the age of 40 are starving themselves and over-exercising," Gibson notes. She advises to "limit exercises that increase cortisol, like running, HIIT, and intense workouts," and instead focus on activities like walking, cycling, or swimming.

The Stress Factor

"Every high-functioning female deals with stress on a constant basis. The problem is that stress was meant to be just a short-term response!" Gibson explains. This chronic stress can lead to hormonal imbalances that make weight loss more challenging. Hailey's approach to managing stress through lifestyle changes and avoiding inflammatory foods addresses this crucial aspect of weight management.

Nutrition for Hormone Balance

While Hailey found success through fasting, experts emphasize the importance of balanced nutrition. "At our practice, we teach 'food freedom,' where no foods are off-limits. Instead, we help clients focus on hitting protein and fiber goals to fill in dietary gaps," says Gibson. This approach helps balance blood sugar, control hunger hormones, and promote healthy estrogen levels.

Understanding Your Body's Signals

"Weight gain is just a symptom of something deeper happening in your body," Gibson emphasizes. This insight mirrors Hailey's experience of discovering how certain foods were causing inflammation in her body. Finding an approach that works for your individual needs and staying consistent with it is key to achieving lasting results. Unless you live under a rock, you are well aware that walking is one of the best workouts for losing weight and maintaining your overall health. However, getting the recommended steps to lose weight and burn fat can be difficult, especially if you have a job. Kelsey Rose is a fitness trainer and social media influencer with hundreds of thousands of followers. In a new post, she issues a “PSA” about walking, explaining that “the #1 tool for FAT LOSS for women is literally free!!” According to Kelsey, if you have a “sedentary” job where you only get in 2,500 steps a day, adding a 30-minute walk before and after work will help you burn an additional 260 calories a day, which could help you lose 10 to 15 pounds in 6 months if paired with an 80/20 diet. “10 other hot tips for hitting those daily steps when working a 9-5,” she writes.

1. Turn Your Morning Routine into Movement

Per Kelsey, the first thing you should do is incorporate walking into your morning routine. “Instead of scrolling or lingering over coffee, use 10-15 minutes in the morning to pace around your home, stretch, or go for a quick walk. I wake up in the morning and go outside first thing!” she writes.

2. Take Active Commutes

Turn your commute into a workout, Kelsey encourages. “If possible, walk or bike to work. If you drive, park farther away or get off public transport a stop early to squeeze in extra steps,” she says.

3. Walk During Meetings

Try and get your steps in while you work by multitasking, Kelsey suggests. “Turn phone calls or virtual meetings into walking meetings. Pop in your headphones and take your call while pacing or walking outside,” she says.

4. Use the Stairs

Turn your office stairwell into a StairMaster, suggests the trainer. “Ditch the elevator! Take the stairs whenever you can to sneak in extra movement,” she writes.

5. Set Hourly Step Goals

Set hourly goals instead of a daily goal to get your body moving. “Set a timer to remind yourself to get up every hour. Walk around the office or do a quick lap at home if you’re working remotely,” says Kelsey.

6. Take Your Lunch Break Outside

Use your lunch break as an opportunity to get fresh air plus exercise. “Go for a brisk walk after eating. It’s a great way to recharge while adding steps to your day,” she says.

7. Use a Smaller Water Bottle

While most experts recommend using large water bottles, a smaller one may help you stay more active. “A smaller bottle means more trips to refill it. Plus, staying hydrated keeps your energy up!” she writes.

8. Walk During Breaks

If you take breaks throughout the work day, use them as an opportunity to take mini walks. “Instead of scrolling on your phone, take a 5-10 minute stroll during your morning or afternoon breaks,” Kelsey writes.

9. Make Errands Active

Multitasking during errands can help you get even more activity in. “Walk to grab coffee, pick up lunch, or drop off documents. Even small tasks can help you rack up steps,” suggests Kelsey.

Are you frustrated that the same weight loss tactics you used in her thirties are failing to work in your forties? It may be time to change your approach. Molly Corcoran is a weight loss warrior and coach who lost a total of 20 pounds after she turned 40. Now, she helps “35+ busy moms optimize their metabolism, build muscle, lose belly fat & find confidence again in peri/menopause,” she writes in her Instagram bio. In a new post, she reveals three core habits at the center of her weight loss. “I stopped eating clean, ditched the orange theory classes over 40,” she writes, revealing her secret.

High-Intensity Workouts Were Impacting Her Hormones

According to Molly, high-intensity cardio workouts that worked for her when she was younger were not helping her lose weight. “The truth is ladies, the constant cardio workouts Like orange theory did a number to my hormones in peri/menopause,” she writes.

Eating “Clean” Was Also Working Against Her

Another thing that stopped working? “Paired that with trying to eat ‘clean’ so I called it for most of my life. There is no such thing as clean eating and if you’re still trying to eat clean in your 40s+ that’s exactly why you can’t lose the weight,” she continued.

She Made Three Changes

“When it all changed for me was when I left the intense cardio/weight classes and finally got control of my eating habits. Here are the 3 things I focused on that drive results,” she says.

She Started Tracking Protein and Calories

“I started tracking my protein and calories in @myfitness pal to educate myself on portions and got good at consistently hitting 140-150g protein daily. Also, eating carbs at every meal and getting a calorie deficit goal that was manageable so I stay consistent,” she said.

She Swapped Group Fitness for Progressive Overload Strength Training

“I left group x classes for good and started to shift my focus to progressive overload strength training. 3-4 strength days a week tracking how much I lifted, set, and allowed rest between sets to push in my lifts,” she writes. “Wanna change your body, leave the random workouts with cardio mixed in because that’s not strength training.”

She Started Walking

And third, she started moving more in general. “I started to monitor my daily movement outside of my workouts, focused on hitting 10k steps, and still do to this day 5 years later,” she writes.

She Got Serious About Nutrition

She also worked on her nutrition. “Bonus: I got serious about educating myself on adding more to my plate by adding more fruits and veggies to my plate, pairing that with healthy fat, and protein was how I lost the most weight.”

You Need to “Unlearn Everything You Thought Would Work"

“If you finally want to see results in your 40s on up, you need to unlearn everything you thought would work. Have a plan for both nutrition and exercise. I can assure you that the results will come when you get serious about what you put in your mouth!” she says. “Microdosing” is a catchy term that is progressively being used by influencers and mainstream media. The overall concept is that lowering a dose of something – ranging from mushrooms to pharmaceutical drugs – somehow makes it healthier and more acceptable. Recently, people have even been discussing microdosing GLP-1 drugs, including Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. However, according to one doctor, this isn’t a good idea. Dr. Dan Burton (@theofficialdrdan) is a “pharmacist by training and an expert in obesity management and medicine.” In a new YouTube video, he discusses the trend and reveals exactly why you should avoid it.

There Are Lots of Mixed Messages About Weight Loss Drugs

He starts off by explaining that there are a lot of mixed messages surrounding weight loss drugs. “A number of influencers and alternative clinicians first came out and said, Ozempic and Wegovy are dangerous. Then they started marketing various supplements of their own that naturally increased GLP-1 and are actually better than Ozempic and Wegovy. And now some of them have pivoted and are starting to say that, ‘Oh, you know what? You should actually only microdose Ozempic and Wegovy because that means it's, it's safer for you.’” He notes that the “opinions and marketing tactics” have “changed over time as we've got more and more wallets involved.”

The Drugs Mimic the GLP-1 Hormone Naturally Produced by the Body

He continues to explain how the drugs work. “Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy and so on are medications that mimic the GLP-1 hormone that is naturally produced by our body. GLP-1 naturally helps to regulate our blood sugars as well as our appetite and satiety feelings,” he said. While they have been “revolutionary not only for obesity management but also diabetes management”, there is a “subset of individuals on the internet that will come out ringing the alarm bells to say otherwise.”

Some People Want to Say the Drugs Are “Dangerous” and “Unnatural” and Are Marketing Their Own Alternatives

Some of them have “quickly labeled these medications as being dangerous, unnatural, and started marketing and pushing their own natural safer supplements,” he says. “But that really didn't last too long because these medications, Ozempic and Wegovy have been shown to be so effective that the supplements just don't even touch them in terms of the results and benefits that could be had. In fact, some of the supplements don't do anything at all.”

And Now, Some Are Recommending Microdosing

“Now some of them are pivoting and moving away from this,” he said. Enter microdosing, the concept of using just a little bit of the weight loss drug. “So what exactly is being sold? What is this microdosing of Ozempic actually mean?” he asks. He reveals that the usual starting dose of these drugs is 0.25 milligrams once a week. “What these alternative clinicians and such are saying is to take a dose that's much, much lower than that, but it's still the exact same medication just at a lower dose. It's not at a microdose, just a lower dose than what we usually use.”

While It Sounds “Safer and Fluffy” There Is No Science Backing It

The smaller dose is “being branded in a different way to make it sound that it's safer and fluffy and everyone's gonna be happy. So it's not a healthier alternative, it's it's just a dosage adjustment. And there's nothing scientifically special about a micro dose. There is no data insights or anything like that that demonstrates the efficacy or better acceptability in that sort of thing of smaller doses,” he says.

Everybody Needs a Different Dose

WARSAW, POLAND-10 JAN, 2025: Ozempic is an anti-diabetic medication used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and an anti-obesity medication used for long-term weight management.Shutterstock

He explains that because everybody’s body is different, it’s important to work with your own clinician to determine the proper dose. “Some people are going to get a great response at a very low dose, and it could be less than 0.25 milligrams or whatever the usual starting dose is,” he says. “Some people are gonna need a much higher dose to get a response and get the efficacy that we're trying to get out of the medication. And spoiler alert, that's because everybody is different.”

You Want It to Be Effective Without Side Effects

“Ultimately, these medications have gotten so powerful that we want to figure out what's going to work for you so that we get the balance of the benefit of the medication, but it's not causing you to have horrible, terrible side effects that you can't tolerate and are ruining your life. And unfortunately for some people, they just can't tolerate the medication at all.”

He Says That Microdosing Ozempic Is Just “Marketing Fluff”

“So microdosing as a concept sounds really fancy and such like that, but it's actually just marketing fluff. And really we should be using these medications with your healthcare team and various other resources that help you with lifestyle changes in management to find the dosage, the plan, and the thing that works for you,” he continues, adding that it’s “dicey” when “influencers and alternative clinicians who don't have any expertise with the actual medications or how to properly monitor individuals that are on these medications” start promoting their specific microdosing protocol or coaching program.

Consult with Your Doctor

In conclusion, if you have been prescribed a weight loss drug, “you can skip the microdosing consultation with some alternative clinician. You just need to continue working with your healthcare team and provider in order to find the dose and such that works for you as well,” he says.

“And yes, as a caveat, we may use lower doses or adjust things as someone gets to their maintenance weight,” he adds. “It might end up being a very low dose of one of these medications. But again, it should be done by clinicians that have the expertise and knowledge to properly monitor and dose adjust things for you.” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss20 Incredible Ozempic Success Stories of All Time.
