Tammy Slaton Lost 500 Pounds and These 3 Daily Habits Are Key
Tammy Slaton, star of the TLC series 1,000-Lb. Sisters, weighed 1,000 pounds. She recently lost over 500 pounds and has totally turned her life around. Slaton endured bariatric surgery and skin removal surgery, according to PEOPLE. Her dramatic weight-loss transformation drastically improved her health. She no longer requires a walker, wheelchair, or oxygen.
After putting herself through quite a lot to lose so much weight, it's important to stay motivated and keep the excess pounds at bay. Here are three daily habits that help Tammy Slaton stay on the right track.
She Had Skin Removal Surgery

Slaton had bariatric surgery in July 2022, then skin removal surgery in January 2025. The procedure was eight hours and involved doctors removing "over 15 pounds" of skin from Slaton's arms, lower stomach, and chin, according to PEOPLE.
She Was "Terrified" the Night Before Her Surgery

"I was really nervous for the skin removal surgery because I was really just kind of afraid of how I'm gonna feel looking at myself without the belly there," Slaton told PEOPLE. "The night before my surgery, I was, like, seriously freaking terrified. I was even more nervous about having skin removal surgery than I was for the [sleeve gastrectomy] surgery because they're actually cutting the whole belly!"
After the Procedure, She Was "Overwhelmed With Excitement"

"After six years and losing over 500 pounds, I was finally approved for surgery," Slaton told PEOPLE. "I was just overwhelmed with excitement. I worked really hard for this, and now it's here. I'm pretty sure it was noticeable on my face how immediately shocked and then overwhelmed with joy I was."
Now, let's dive into the healthy habits that are key for Slaton.
She Works Out

Slaton's workout routine includes variety. When speaking of some of her favorite workouts, Slaton told Us Weekly, "I like chair exercises, lifting weights, running the bike and walking."
She Shifted Her Mindset

A major part of Slaton's weight-loss success was due to prioritizing her mental well-being.
"It's not a diet, they say it's a lifestyle change. It really is. I had a lot of demons — inner demons that I had to fight. And I'm still fighting," Slaton shared on Instagram.
She Stays Positive

Slaton delivers so much positivity on her Instagram page. In one post, she wrote, "Welcome to All the New Faces! I'm so glad you've chosen to follow my page! Here, you'll find motivation, inspiration, and the tips that have helped me grow into the woman I know I'm meant to be."
She also shared, "Whether [you've lost] 500 lbs. like I [did], or you've almost lost all your weight, whether you deal with depression, or you don't know what to do tomorrow, just know, you are safe here."
She Acknowledges the Importance of Receiving Mental Health Support

Slaton revealed that she "wouldn't have gotten so big" if she had received the right mental health support.
"The mental aspect of it does play a lot. Being depressed and having a food addiction, eating my feelings, I was taking it out on the food. There's so many things that can go wrong. Life is scary," Slaton said (via PEOPLE).
