Coach Lost 56 Pounds With These 5 Supplements and 6 High-Protein Meals

One weight loss warrior reveals some of her go-to's for weight loss.

Mia_Preps_miapreps1

Are you trying to lose weight but need a little help? Mia Preps is an online coach who helps women lose weight in a sustainable way – just like she did. In a new post, she discusses a few supplements that were incredibly helpful in her journey. “I know when you are starting out on your fitness journey, knowing what to buy can be really overwhelming! But I like to keep it simple,” she says. She then goes on to reveal the supplements she would “buy over and over again” if she wanted to lose 56 pounds while building muscle.

Whey Protein

Her first suggestion is a protein powder. “I would suggest getting a whey protein,” she says in her post, explaining that you have two options. “You can get one that’s vanilla or unflavoured, then add ingredients in to mix it up. Or choose a flavor that you love. This way, you can have it in shakes, oats, yogurt and not get bored of it.”

Clear Whey

Another supplement must-have? Clear whey (ISOclear), which “is perfect for when you don’t want a creamy shake,” she says. “It’s basically juice that has 25g of protein in it for minimal calories! Perfect to sip on throughout the day.”

Flavor Powder

Next on her list? “Flavor powders are such a staple for me,” she writes. “I mix them into my coffee, yogurt, oats.” She adds that they are sugar-free, “which means I don’t have to worry about adding extra calories into my drinks or food. But the flavors are amazing.”

Protein Bars

She is also a fan of protein bars, “a must” for her. “As someone with a sweet tooth, having something that tastes as good as a chocolate bar with 14g of protein in it is a game changer!” she says.

Energy Drinks

Cairo, Egypt, October 1 2023: Crushed dented Red Bull energy drink, a brand of energy drinks created and owned by the Austrian company Red Bull GmbH, Its slogan, (Red Bull Gives You Wings), isolatedShutterstock

Energy drinks are another item on her list. “These aren’t something I have every day but when I’m cutting, they help to curb some of the cravings and give me a boost. The ESN ones are zero sugar and contain electrolytes!” she says.

Creatine

She is also a fan of creatine supplements. “Taking Creatine every day has been proven to support muscle growth,” she says. Research has found that pairing creatine with strength training is a good combination.

She Doesn’t Starve Herself

“Gone are the days where I believed I had to STARVE myself and be SKINNY. These days, I know we have to FUEL our bodies to get STRONG,” she writes. “I make a point to prioritize protein and lately I’ve been keeping a close eye on my fiber intake as well. My fiber on this day was 29g. (A good general recommendation is to shoot for about 25g) I hear from a lot of you that having more meal ideas is important so I hope this helps!”

Other Habits Helped Her Lose Weight

In another post, she reveals a few of the other habits that helped her get into the best shape of her life. “My Midlife Sisters!! The plan has changed! We’re not chasing skinny anymore…we’re going for STRENGTH now. Here’s the plan: First, we’re BELIEVING it’s possible for us to become fitter than ever in midlife. (It is!!) This all starts with belief,” she says.

Strength Trainings

Another habit that helped her get into great shape was strength training. “We’re switching from prioritizing cardio to lifting weights,” she says in the post. She recommends two to three times a week – or more – to get the best results.

And, Changing Her Mindset

Nutrition was also key. “We’re going to eat more protein…a lot more! Our target is about 1g protein per pound of your ideal bodyweight per day. We’re understanding the right amounts and combinations of foods to get us to our physique goals. Tracking macros is the way!” she says. However, she also make mental shifts. “We’re not just focusing on physical changes…that’s where we’ve failed in the past. We’re going for lifelong changes through changing our mindsets, having positive outlooks and creating habits.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Coach Lost 35 Pounds in 4 Months With These 6 Changes
Instagram.com/@conquering_cortisol_control

Do you want to lose weight fast while healing your gut? Amanda Borchardt is a cortisol expert and coach who lost 35 pounds when she finally “cracked the code” to cortisol and adopted certain habits that helped her keep her hormones under control. In a new social media post, she reveals five habits that enabled her to lose weight fast and transform her look. “How to become unrecognizable in the next 6 months,” she writes across the video. “I started with these habits and a cortisol balancing, gut healing supplement that helped me lose 35 pounds in 4 months and gained back all my lost energy from high cortisol!” she added.

Hydrate

Her first habit has to do with hydration. “Drink your body weight in ounces,” she writes. How much water should you drink? According to the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, men should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids daily and women about 11.5 cups (2.7 liters). The Mayo Clinic explains that hydration helps eliminate waste through urination, perspiration, and bowel movements, keeps your temperature regular, lubricates and cushions joints, and helps protect sensitive tissues.

Walk and Lift Weights

Her second habit is two different workouts. “10,000 Steps per day & lifting,” she says. A 2018 study published in Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes. As for strength training, Mayo Clinic explains that it can help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. It may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills

Amp Up Your Protein Intake

Also, amp up your protein intake. “Increase your protein intake to (30 to 40g per meal),” she suggests. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW), but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

No Processed Food or Sugar

When it comes to diet, it’s not just about how many calories you eat, but what types of food, she says. “Cut out processed food/sugar,” she writes. Examples include anything made with white flour or sugar, packaged snacks, candy, or fast food.

Walk Barefoot Outside

Her fifth tip is unconventional. “Walk outside barefoot & daily get sunlight,” she writes. Vitamin D helps cells in your gut absorb bone-healthy nutrients calcium and phosphorus.

Consume Gut-Healing Herbs

Her last tip is to “add in natural herbs that not only heal your gut but help balance your cortisol,” she writes. “When I added it in the correct supplements, my weight loss journey skyrocketed after years of not being able to lose anything!” And if you enjoyed this article, don't miss40 Health Symptoms That Can Be More Serious Than You Think.

We strive to only recommend products that adhere to our philosophy of eating better while still enjoying what you eat.

Many people believe that to lose weight, you need to stop snacking; however, this isn’t the case. Instead, you may have to shift your approach to snacking, opting for food that fuels your body instead of seeking a quick fix. Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, also known as The Diet Diva, is Body Network’s Resident Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She is a Board-Certified Sports Dietitian and co-author of Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies. We asked her for recommendations on the best snacks for women over 50 to burn fat, and here are five she swears by.

Greek Yogurt with Berries

Her first snack for women over 50 to lose weight? Greek yogurt with berries. Always stick to plain Greek yogurt, as sweetened versions are higher in sugar and calories. “High in protein to support lean muscle and metabolism, plus calcium for bone health. Plus, berries are packed with antioxidants and fiber,” Collingwood says.

Hard-Boiled Egg Salad Made with Avocado

It’s always great to make a batch of hard-boiled eggs. While they can be eaten whole, you can also use some to create a healthy version of egg salad. “Eggs give you protein and essential nutrients like choline. Avocados add healthy fats that promote satiety and support hormone balance,” explains Collingwood. “Eat on whole grain crackers or with raw veggies.”

Cottage Cheese with Flaxseeds and Grapes

Delicious fresh cottage cheese in bowl on table, closeup5. Greek Yogurt/Cottage CheeseShutterstock

A great sweet-meets-savory snack that will help fill you up and fuel you for the rest of the day? Cottage cheese with flaxseeds and grapes. “Cottage cheese is a slow-digesting protein. Flaxseeds bring omega-3s and fiber; grapes are full of water and some fiber to keep you full,” explains Collingwood.

An easy snack to help burn fat? “A small handful” of nuts, such as almonds, pistachios, or walnuts. “Nuts are nutrient-dense and full of good fats. They keep you full and help stabilize blood sugar levels,” says Collingwood.

If you are cooking dinner, make some extra roasted veggies to snack on. “Low in calories, high in fiber, and loaded with vitamins. Ana, who uses the TikTok handle @thecertifiedhypegirl, is a weight loss influencer and coach who lost 80 pounds. Her videos reveal the things that worked for her in terms of weight loss and what didn’t. In one of her viral videos, she revealed her best secrets that allowed her to lose weight while enjoying the foods that she loves and living her best life. We also asked The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, to weigh in on her tactics.

Drink a Lot of Water

“The first thing I want you to do is drink a s**t ton of water,” she suggests. “Now, I'm not just talking a glass, I'm talking a lot of water, like so much water that you're peeing all day long.” She explains that you should weigh yourself, “see how much you weigh” and “drink half of that in ounces of water. A lot of water.” Collingwood agrees that staying hydrated is good for overall health and can assist in weight loss. “Sometimes hunger is disguised as dehydration,” she says. Another perk of H20? “Water is also good for digestion.”

Eat a Lot…Of Veggies

She also says that “eating a lot,” will help you lose weight. “You need to eat a lot of foods of what you love that are essentially really low in calories. Get out that recipe book. Get onto Google. Do whatever you need to do to find recipes of vegetables that you love. The more vegetables, the more water, the more weight loss.” Collingwood agrees that a full plate of food is very satisfying both physical and psychologically. “Vegetables are the lowest calorie foods and they also contain water and fiber, both of which are filling,” she says. “I think the fiber in the vegetables is more important than the water content. Fiber is undigestible plant matter. You eat it and it gives you volume in your stomach to keep you full and your body stays satiated while it tries to digest it.”

You Can Cheat on Occasion

Cheating is also part of her approach to weight loss. “That's not saying you can't enjoy your occasional pizza or your occasional beer,” she added. Collingwood agrees that balancing your meals is a good idea. “I don’t call it ‘cheating’ but rather balancing the lower calorie foods with some high calorie/empty calorie foods,” she says. “When you are having pizza, beer, alcohol, dessert, etc. it is also a matter of portion control. You can undo 6 days of good in one just meal or day.”

Write Down Everything You Eat

Ana also suggests writing everything down. “You need to track what is going into your body so that your mind can be aware of what your body is consuming,” she says. “It's not enough to say, ‘Oh, well, I'll remember what I had.’ No, you won't. You got so much to remember during a day. You ain't going to remember everything that you ate, so just get a piece of paper, get a pen, and write it down.” Collingwood thinks that keeping track of what you are eating, and assigning calorie values, is a great idea. “Writing down what you eat (and how much!) is excellent accountability,” she says. “You can also keep track of your mood, energy levels, sleep, activity, and more and see how it might relate to your food choices.”

Weigh Yourself Daily

“The last piece of the puzzle is you're going to want to weigh yourself every single morning,” says Ana. “You want to see what happened yesterday. You want to see if it worked or if it didn't, and make tweaks as the days go on.” While weight fluctuates a couple of pounds day to day, Collingwood does agree with weighing regularly – at least 1 to 2 times per week. “What you did yesterday is not likely to show up on the scale the next day already, but over a few days and weeks you will see the results of your habits,” she says.

She Suggests Trying It For a Week

“I want you to try that for at least a week and come let me know how you did. And if there's only one thing you can take away from watching this video, if you only remember one thing, it's that more water equals more weight loss. Trust me, I'm not lying,” Ana concludes. Collingwood takes it a step further. “I always encourage people to practice new habits for several weeks before expecting to see major results,” she says.

“I started my morning with my breakfast cocktail of oxygen and creatine. I just added the products to my showcase. So go check them out. I have my cocktail with Greek yogurt with strawberries and blueberries and a drizzle of granola,” she says. The total calories equal 157 and 14 g protein.

“1800-1900 calories seems like a good amount for her, but I don’t know her exact age, height, weight, or exercise level,” says Collingwood. “147 grams of protein is probably more than she needs, but it is not dangerously high.”

“I see a little bit of fruit on the yogurt and a tiny bit of spinach in eggs and peppers in tuna but overall not much veggie intake (green smoothie was green powder and not real whole veggies) which is proven with only 16 grams of fiber for her overall day,” Collingwood continues. “I would recommend increasing veggies to aim for 25 grams of fiber each day.” She also likes how often she is eating with the meals and snacks in between. “I do worry about the OxyShred. I couldn’t find on their website anywhere exactly how much caffeine is in it and having it later in the day could definitely impact sleep since caffeine has a 5 hour half-life,” she points out.
