Kaylyn Lewis is a social media influencer who lost a lot of weight and regularly shares videos about how she did it. In one viral TikTok video, she reveals that a certain drink helped her achieve her weight loss goals fast. “I have lost over 16 pounds in only three weeks, and I'll show you what I've been doing in my daily routine,” she says in the clip.

Kaylyn Claims That Daily Apple Cider Vinegar Shots Are Responsible for Her Weight Loss

I normally don’t like to look at my weight on the scale, but now I am happy that I did! ☺️💚 #bloat #bloating #bloated #burnfat #glowyskin #skinfromwithin #gut #health #healthiswealth #MyDolceMoment #viral #fyp #fy #tryit #applecidervinegar #aloe #aloevera #cayenne #tumeric #lemon #ginger #himalayan #himalayansalt #benefits

Kaylyn reveals that “apple cider vinegar shots every day,” were a huge part of her success. “That has helped me lose weight so fast,” she says.

She Says ACV Shots Are Also Good for Gut and Skin Health

Weight loss isn’t the only benefit of ACV shots, according to Kaylyn. “Not to mention that this recipe is great for not only your gut and intestinal health, but also your skin health as well,” she says in the TikTok.

Here’s How to Make Her ACV Shot

Kaylyn goes on to share her two week recipe. “I'm putting a lot more than I normally do for my daily dose or for my week dose,” she explains. She starts with one cup of ACV. “I normally add one cup of aloe vera juice, but I'm going to do one cup of purified water for this batch because I'm almost out of my aloe vera juice,” she continues. “Then you're going to add four tablespoons of lemon juice. Then you're going to add four tablespoons of ginger juice, and then you're going to add two teaspoons of turmeric and cayenne pepper. And last but not least, you're going to sprinkle some pink Himalayan salt and some black pepper,” she says. “Himalayan salt is great. It has 88 of 102 minerals that our body needs and a lot of us lack different minerals. So we're going to just put a decent amount in there. And the black pepper also has great benefits as well. And it will activate the turmeric that's in here.” Then, she mixes it up and takes a shot.

Green Matcha Helps Neutralize the Spices

“If this is too strong for you, you can feel free to dilute it with more water or aloe vera juice, whichever one,” she says, adding that green matcha helps neutralize the spices. “If you take this shot and you like green tea matcha, drink some of this with some milk in it and it really helps. That was by far the easiest shot intake I've had yet. So definitely recommend a hundred percent,” she concludes.

While many weight loss warriors claim ACV shots aid in weight loss, there is very limited research supporting it. One study published in the Journal of Functional Foods which involved 39 adults found that those who consumed a tablespoon of ACV at lunch and dinner and cut 250 calories per day lost 8.8 lbs in 12 weeks – 3.8 pounds more than the other group who followed the same diet but didn’t take the daily shots. Another study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry divided a group of 144 adults with obesity into two, half who drank a placebo and the other half, one to two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily for 12 weeks. The group who drank two tablespoons lost close to 4 lbs at the end of the time period, while those who drank one tablespoon lost 2.5 lbs, and the placebo group gained weight.

💪🔥Body Booster: If you don’t like the taste of ACV, consider taking ACV gummies instead, the vinegar in supplement form.

Karla (@improvingwkarla) is a TikTok and Instagram influencer who has amassed a huge following by sharing the diet and weight loss tips that helped her lose 15 pounds of fat in just three months. In a viral video, she claims that simply by changing the way she drank water enabled her to lose a lot of weight. “If you don't know how to start your weight loss journey, I'm going to teach you a habit, “ she says in the clip.

Drink 64 Ounces of Water

Karla suggests drinking 64 ounces of water every day. “For me, it just means I need two of these,” she says, holding up her water bottles.

But You Don’t Have to Chug It

“We're not going to chug our water so that you can use the bathroom a trillion times a day, and here I'm just putting filtered water. We're actually going to be intentional with the weight loss journey, and we want to be intentional with what we're putting in our body. So here's how to actually drink water intentionally so that you can help your body function as effectively as it can, as it's losing all the weight,” she continues.

Add a Pinch of Salt

“You're going to put a pinch of salt,” she instructs. “This shouldn't be salty at all. This is actually going to add all the electrolytes back in your water. These are essential building blocks for our livelihood and making you prettier.”

You Can Also Add Lemon or Lime

Fresh,Lemons,In,A,Wooden,Container,box,citrus,fruitShutterstock

“If you want to get fancy, I usually add lemon, but today I only have lime. I still get the same experience, so I am going to chop them up,” she explains.

This Water Is Part of Her “Healthy Habits” Journey

Karla maintains that “this is just one of the ways” that she shows up for herself. “Ever since I started my healthy habits journey, my life has just changed for the better. Doing this little routine throughout the day, or as soon as I wake up, is how I take care of my health and happiness, and it just sets you up for the day.”

How Salt Aids in Hydration

Cropped photo of attractive fitness woman sitting in gym and holding bottle of water.Shutterstock

Adding salt (or electrolytes) to your water is a great way to improve hydration – if you sweat a lot. When your body loses water you are also losing other nutrients, including sodium, which is needed to maintain proper fluid balance. If you don’t have enough salt in your diet, you can drink endless amounts of water without even hydrating yourself.

Should You Put Salt in Your Water

However, you don’t want to consume too much salt. And, most people who aren’t extremely active get enough sodium from diet alone. The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests less than 1,500 mg of sodium per day. To put it in perspective, one teaspoon of salt contains 2,300 mg.

💪🔥Body Booster: If you are exercising and excessively sweat, adding salt to your water can aid in hydration.

Do you want to lose 30 pounds in two weeks? While it might seem impossible, one YouTuber claims it isn’t. Steve Cha of Rockstar Eater, a YouTube channel focusing on his love of food, shared a recent video about how rapidly he lost weight to the tune of a pound every two days. He claims it all boils down to following three simple steps.

He Gained 10 to 12 Pounds After Starting His YouTube Channel

Steve from Rockstar Eater explains that he gained “about 10 to 12 pounds” after starting his YouTube channel from “eating a lot of food” and that “it did take some toll” on his body. He topped the scales at 170, admitting that his blood pressure and cholesterol both went up.

He Gave Himself 30 Days to Lose 15 Pounds

Man tying jogging shoesShutterstock

“So I decided that I'm going to take some steps in order to try to take care of my health for the next few weeks. So in this video, I'm gonna be documenting my journey on losing basically 10 to 15 pounds,” he says, giving himself a time frame of 30 days.

His Plan Starts with Exercise

Man walking on sunlit trail in autumn forest enjoying peaceful walk in natureShutterstock

Steve’s plan was to start with exercise. “What I'm gonna do is basically every day do a lot of walking, cardio, jogging in order to sweat, burn some calories,” he says.

It Also Involves Changing His Diet

“And I'm also gonna, of course, alter my diet. That's the most important thing because it's no use for me to go out and do all of this exercising but then come home and snack on all this junk food,” he says. “Of course, I'm not gonna go the drastic route of starving myself, you know, like what some people do. That's actually not healthy at all.”

Protein with Salads or Veggies

Salmon,Served,With,Mix,Salad,Veggies,VegetablesShutterstock

What will he be eating for the next few weeks while he’s trying to lose weight? “Definitely low-fat foods,” he says. He might make a big salad and some salmon but only have a third of it, then “probably the other third for dinner. And then for dinner, I can change it up by eating, for example, fish, some cucumber and some baby broccoli, which is really good. I highly recommend this.” He will also eat an apple.

No Fried Food

French fries in hot fat in a deep fryerShutterstock

“So something like this is what I would be eating every day with just some variations, but definitely staying away from all the fried stuff, all the beef, you know, high cholesterol stuff, definitely no ice cream,” he adds.

10,000 Steps Per Day

Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Feb 20, 2022. A Person with an Apple Watch Series 7 with a pedometer app on the screen and with a daily ten thousand steps.Shutterstock

Steve’s goal is to try to hit about 10,000 steps a day. “On a busy day, I'd probably be walking for about one hour, kind of like a walk-jog. But then, if I have one of those days where it's not that busy, who knows, I might even go for half a day, like three to four hours of walking. But remember, drink plenty of water when you're out here, especially during the summertime,” he says.

Week One He Lost 3 Pounds

“So it's been about a week now, and it looks like I've been able to lose about three pounds in the course of six to seven days. So far off to a good start,” Steve says. “I mean, I'm already feeling it. My body feels a little lighter, and I can get into my pants without feeling so very tight.”

Week Two He Lost Two-and-Half-Pounds

This week I was able to drop about two to two and a half pounds, and I do feel better. Everything feels good all around,” Steve says. If “you're losing weight over time, it gets more difficult and difficult to drop the same amount of weight every single week.”

He Did Cheat

Steve admits that he “did have some cheat days here and there, but for the most part, still sticking to vegetables, fruits, and cereal, oats, you know, all that healthy stuff, and I don't overeat. That's the key. And you gotta also do a lot of exercise.”

30 Day Mark: 15 Pounds

The man who measures a waist with a tape measureShutterstock

“Moment of truth after 30 days of hard work. Let's see what the final result is.

As many of you guys probably know, that was not an easy task to all of a sudden go onto such a strict diet exercising plan. So yes, it looks like I lost about 14 to 15 pounds in the span of 30 days, which is not easy to do, but it is doable though.”

Step 1: Diet

Fruit,Market,Fresh,Fruits,Vegetables,market,farmers,farm,Shutterstock

He then details each step he followed. “Number one, I changed my diet plan,” he reiterates, “eating stuff with less sugar, less sodium, less carbs in it, sticking mainly to fruits and vegetables and oats and wheat. I mean, once in a while, I had my cheat day here and there to eat something heavier, but that's pretty much what I've been sticking to.”

Step 2: Hydrating

Glasses,Of,Water,On,A,Wooden,Table.,Selective,Focus.,ShallowShutterstock

The second step? Hydration. “ I've been drinking a lot of water, like a lot of water,” he continues. “No more of the sodas and the fruit juices, mostly water during a lot of these days.”

Step 3: Exercising

His final step? Exercise, including “a lot of cardio, jogging, some stretches here and there,” he says.

It’s Not Easy, But Gets Easier

Steve encourages others to stick to a diet. “It's not easy, I'll tell you that, especially in the first few days. It's gonna be very difficult, but then you kind of get used to it over time,” he says.

His Blood Pressure Decreased

“But overall, I'm definitely feeling it. It's flatter all around my stomach area and my chest and I feel better health-wise. And I was even able to go to the local grocery store to measure my blood pressure. It actually went down by 15, I think I was at 1 35 before in terms of blood pressure. And then I think it went down to about like one 20 or one 17, which is really good.”

So Did His Body Fat

Happy man jumping for joy on the peak of the mountain, cliff at sunset. Success, winner, happinessShutterstock

His “body fat level has gone down a little bit as well, and I'm assuming that's also cholesterol,” he notes. “So overall, I'm feeling very healthy. So if you guys want to lose some weight and you want to lose it fast, maybe within 30 days, just letting you know that it is possible.”

The NIH Recommends Losing 1 to 2 Pounds Per Week

Lose 10 PoundsShutterstock

Is Steve’s weight loss realistic? According to the National Institutes of Health, no. “Weight loss should be about 1 to 2 pounds per week for a period of 6 months,” they say. That would be a maximum loss of 8 pounds in 30 days.

Body Network’s Resident RDN, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian and co-author of the Flat Belly Cookbook for Dummies, agrees that starving yourself thin is not a good idea. She notes that rapid weight loss usually leads to weight regain. “Starving and fasting can produce fast weight loss, but it also stresses the body and causes the metabolism to shut down, which in turn can cause rebound weight gain,” she says.

However, sustainable weight loss is possible with the right mindset and approach. "Anything hard takes some discipline, and losing weight is one of the hardest lifestyle habits to modify," says Collingwood. "I coach my clients to think about their motivations for eating to make the changes in their lifestyle that will require them to lose the weight they say they want to lose. Are you trying to lose weight with a healthy diet but can’t seem to hit your goals? You could be drinking your calories, says one weight loss warrior. Gabriella Rolocut (@gabbierolocut) is a social media influencer who shares about everything from fashion to weight loss. In fact, she managed to lose 75 pounds in a healthy and sustainable way, sharing tips with her followers. “I'm gonna share my biggest weight loss tip on how I was able to go from this to this, losing 75 pounds,” she says at the start of a viral TikTok clip. She has since gone on to lose over 80 pounds.

You Need to Understand How You Are Consuming Your Calories

@gabbierolocut

Gabriella suggests taking a deep look at sneaky calories. “My biggest tip, and I can't stress this enough, is understanding how you're consuming your calories,” she says.

Coffee Drinks Have Lots of Hidden Calories

“For example, we all love Starbucks, we all love Dunkin'. We love our little Pumpkin Spice latte. Our pumpkin spice drinks wanna be very seasonal. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Those drinks have so many calories, and I don't know if anybody's ever looked it up. Sometimes they don't post the calories up on the board next to the drinks, so I'm gonna show you just how many calories you're consuming,” she says.

One Dunkin’ Drink Has 930 Calories

Upland, California, United States - 02-19-2019: A view of a store front sign for Dunkin' Donuts.

She starts with a pumpkin spice latte. “I'm gonna use the Pumpkin Swirl frozen coffee from Dunkin',” she says. “There could be 930 calories in this drink. That's 63% of my daily calories. If I were to drink this in the morning, I'd only have 541 more calories to get me through the rest of the day. There are 185 grams of sugar in this. 46 teaspoons of sugar is equal to 14 glazed donuts. Didn't you much rather eat your calories than drink them in a drink?”

There Are Lots of Alternatives That Don’t Have As Many Calories

@gabbierolocut

like why…? #fyp #wideribcage #girly #foryou #makemefamous #relatable

“There are so many different alternatives that you can get from Starbucks, Dunkin', or anywhere that has significantly fewer calories than this one. That you can still have your pumpkin spice while losing weight was the biggest thing for me,” she said.

But Drinking These Kinds of Drinks Prevented Her From Losing Weight

@gabbierolocut

“I didn't realize how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis because I would go out to Dunkin', to Starbucks, and I would get drinks like this, not knowing that's why I wasn't losing weight because I was consuming a drink that has 930 calories and then eating more,” she says.

Calculate Your Maintenance Calories

Gray pencil, calculator and opened account bookShutterstock

She recommends “trying to calculate your resting metabolic rate, so how many calories your body's burning at its resting state, and then finding your maintenance calories, so how many calories you should be consuming on a daily basis, just to function as a human being.”

Then, Calculate Your Deficit Calories

Then, figure out how many calories you need to cut to lose weight. “Calculate your calorie deficit calories, which is the calories that you're gonna wanna be consuming if you want to lose weight,” she says.

This Helped Her Lose Weight

“That was one of my biggest things, eliminating high-calorie drinks and replacing them with healthier alternatives. I love my coffee. I look forward to it in the morning. It's the first thing I think about when I wake up. If you're looking to lose weight. I would highly suggest breaking down your calories and figuring out how you consume your calories throughout the day so that you're able to stay in a calorie deficit and lose weight,” she says.

The Only Calories Are From Milk

“I asked for light ice, which means they put in more milk. There are more calories from milk. But my only concern here is that I know that none of the calories I'm drinking are coming from a sweetener solely because there is no flavor in it. The only calories that come out of this drink are from milk. Coffee has no calories. Stevia has no calories. The milk is the only thing,” she says. Katie Dunlop, a fitness influencer and certified personal trainer, transformed her body and her life by shedding 45 pounds and getting rid of stubborn stomach fat. In a recent YouTube video, Katie shared the key dietary changes that helped her reach her goals. She revealed that her weight loss success wasn’t just about exercise; it involved being more mindful of her food choices and cutting out certain items that were sneaking extra calories and sugar into her daily routine.

Through consistency, dedication, and small, sustainable changes, Katie not only achieved her weight loss goals but also became an inspiration to thousands of others. By cutting out these six specific foods, which she once thought were healthy or harmless, Katie finally saw the results she wanted. Here's a look at the six foods she eliminated and how these small shifts made a big difference.

I Ditched Sugary Coffee Creamers

"I was a huge international delight girl, and this is not just to hate on this brand; it's just that it was my brand. I did international delight, French vanilla coffee creamer in my coffee every day," she says in the video. "So that was an excess of 20 to 25 grams of sugar first thing in the morning before 7:00 AM. I'm like, let's just get a little cup of sugar in here, and 24 grams of sugar is the daily recommended amount of added sugar."

I Cut Out Fiber and Protein Bars

"So I used to eat fiber bars or protein bars every single day. I would use them as meal replacements, thinking that they were healthy, but that wasn't the case," she says in the video.

"The problem with most of these bars is they have so many unnecessary added ingredients. So ideally, I try to keep my bars to 10 grams of protein or more, six grams of sugar or less, and it's hard to find any bars that have that, that also don't have just a bunch of chemicals in the ingredient list or fake sugars and stuff."

I Stopped My Nightly Frozen Yogurt Habit

"In college, we had a yogurt land down the street from us, and this is when frozen yogurt was it. And so we went a couple of times, and then we just kept going and kept going. We ended up going almost every single night we could walk to it," she says in the video.

"Well, in a small, like a cup serving of most of those frozen yogurts, they have 25 grams of sugar. And then on top of it, I felt like it was a gateway drug. I don't know how to describe it. Then you're like, oh, a little gram cracker, a little granola, that's healthy. Oh, a little coconut spread. You just start adding and adding, and all of a sudden, you have 500 extra calories a day that I didn't need."

I Gave Up the Special K Diet

"Does anyone remember the Special K diet? Anyone? Am I dating myself? Okay, so you know the Special K cereal, the brand cereal, they've removed all of this from their website. I went digging, I could find nothing. It was a real thing though," she says in the video.

"It was basically the idea that you were to swap two meals a day with Special K cereal, and they claim that you could lose six pounds and a pant size in two weeks."

I Stopped Snacking on Veggie Chips

"I was duped into thinking that veggie chips were so much healthier than potato chips or the hint of lime toss. I was obsessed with it. They were veggies, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. It took me so long to realize that they were not at all healthier," she says in the video.

"The whole process that they have to go through in order to make them into chips basically just takes most of the nutrients out of them. And you are left with just a vegetable-colored shaped potato chip."

I Stopped Eating After 9 PM

"I had to stop eating after 9:00 PM, and let's just say there's not a magical time. So don't think, oh my gosh, 9:00 PM said I stopped eating at seven. This is not a problem for me. It may still be 9:00 PM, which was my time," she says in the video.

"The reason why I had to give myself a time at night to stop eating was because I would just keep going. Those cravings would hit me mentally or physically, and I didn't really know how to control them. The bottom line was I wasn't making healthy choices after 9:00 PM."

The Power of Small Changes

"When I did that, those hundreds of excess calories were cut from my diet when I cut out the creamers with all the sugars and fake stuff. When I stopped eating all these fiber bars and cereals and all these little things that I thought were healthy, I actually started getting results," she says in the video.

"Yes, I was moving my body, but I wasn't doing anything crazy. You guys know I started 10 minutes a day and I moved up to, I do 30 to 45 minutes a day now. But it's those little tiny things that add up."

Do you want to lose almost one pound weekly for 8 weeks? It’s doable, without having to make significant changes, according to one fitness pro. Lauren Simpson is a fitness trainer and influencer with over 1.8 million Instagram followers. In a new social media post, she reveals exactly how she is achieving her goal of losing 7 pounds in the next 8 weeks. “Here’s exactly what I’ll be doing,” she writes.

Get Into a Calorie Deficit

The first topic to tackle is nutrition. She plans on consuming 1,650 calories and 132g protein per day. “I definitely embraced the foods over the festive season, so I'm looking forward to tidying my diet up now. 80% whole foods/ 20% soul foods. Tracking my intake so I keep accountable & have more data to then be able to make changes,” she writes. “I’m excited to be entering my first structured calorie deficit phase since having a baby!”

Strength Train

Next, she will be doing strength training workouts. “Aiming for 3-5 days a week weights training. Mum life means being able to adjust & be okay that things aren’t going to be 100% to plan. May introduce cardio later…will see how my body responds,” she says.

Walk

And you will also find her walking. Her daily step goal is 6,000. However, many experts recommend 10,000 for weight loss. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure and fewer strokes.

She Lifts Heavy Weights

In an interview with Simply Shredded, Lauren revealed she is “passionate” about the gym. “That’s when I decided to dedicate more time to getting stronger and developing my overall physique and I made the switch from being a ‘cardio bunny’ to lifting heavy weights! During that time, I would go on social media to look at girls who competed in Fitness competitions,” she said.

She Does Minimal Cardio

“A workout routine focusing primarily on weight training with minimal to no cardio works best for me. My style of training is a cross between powerlifting and bodybuilding. I am an ectomorph body type and I find it quite hard to maintain muscle mass. Lifting heavy has really helped to stimulate my overall muscle growth, particularly with my lower body,” she added to the publication

She Counts Macros

Lauren elaborated on her diet to Simply Shredded. “I follow a blended approach between macros and clean eating,” says Lauren. “I know my exact macros and I have a clean meal plan to hit these macros. When planning my meals, I also keep things like nutrient timing in mind too especially around my workouts.”

Here Is What She Eats in a Day

Here is what Lauren eats in a day

  • Meal 1: 5 ounces Egg Whites, 3 ounces Oats and 1 tablespoon Honey
  • Meal 2: 1 scoop Protein and 1 cup Blueberries
  • Meal 3: 3 ½ ounces Barramundi and 9 ounces Sweet Potato
  • Meal 4: 2 ½ ounces Chicken Breast, 5 ounces Mixed Vegetables and 1 ½ ounces Walnuts
  • Meal 5: 3 ½ ounces Turkey Mince, 3 ½ ounces Pumpkin, ¼ cup Baby Spinach Leaves and 2 ounces Avocado
  • Meal 6: 1 scoop Protein and ¼ cup Almonds.

She Keeps No Sweets in the House

“Sushi and sweet potato fries are my current obsession! I often crave sweet things, so to handle those cravings, I simply do not keep any sweets in the house! (Laughs) I remove all temptations and I save the sweets for when I go out on a ‘cheat night,’” says Lauren. Are you experiencing unexplained fatigue, brittle nails, or slow-healing wounds? Your body might be waving red flags about protein deficiency. Dr. Jin W. Sung, a prominent health expert with nearly 500,000 YouTube subscribers, reveals seven critical signs that could indicate you're not getting enough protein. Understanding these signals could be the key to unlocking better health, stronger immunity, and improved overall wellness. Read on to discover if your body is trying to tell you something important.

The Hidden Language of Protein Deficiency: 7 Warning Signs

"Most people don't realize how many different ways their body signals protein deficiency," says Dr. Sung. These seven key signs can help you identify if you're getting enough protein in your diet. Pay attention if you experience any of these symptoms, especially in combination.

Sign #1: Struggling to Build or Maintain Muscle

"Muscle loss or inability to gain muscle despite working out is a major red flag," warns Dr. Sung. If you're hitting the gym regularly but not seeing results, or noticing muscle weakness despite regular activity, your protein intake might be insufficient. For optimal muscle health, Dr. Sung recommends 1.2 to 1.4 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, with athletes needing up to 2 grams per kilogram.

Sign #2: Brittle Hair and Weak Nails

Notice your hair breaking easily or nails becoming increasingly brittle? Dr. Sung explains that these changes often signal protein deficiency, as hair and nails are primarily made of protein. Regular monitoring of your protein intake is crucial for maintaining strong, healthy hair and nails.

Sign #3: Slow-Healing Wounds

"When you get a cut and it doesn't heal well or in the expected time frame, that's a clear sign," Dr. Sung notes. Protein plays a crucial role in tissue repair and wound healing. If small cuts or bruises take longer than usual to heal, your body might need more protein to support its repair processes.

Sign #4: Weakened Immune System

"These people will be more prone to infection or become currently sick," Dr. Sung explains about protein-deficient individuals. If you're catching every cold that comes around or infections seem to linger, your immune system might be struggling due to inadequate protein intake.

Sign #5: Sleep Issues and Mood Changes

Experiencing anxiety, depression, or insomnia? According to Dr. Sung, these could be unexpected signs of protein deficiency. Studies show that protein is essential for producing neurotransmitters that regulate mood and sleep patterns.

Sign #6: Bone Health Concerns

"People don't realize it's not just calcium and minerals in the bone. There's protein amino acids too," Dr. Sung emphasizes. If you're concerned about bone density or have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, increasing your protein intake might be crucial for maintaining bone health.

Sign #7: Constant Hunger and Cravings

While not directly quoted by Dr. Sung, research shows that inadequate protein intake can lead to increased hunger and cravings. Dr. Sung's recommended protein intake of 1.2 to 1.4 grams per kilogram of body weight can help maintain satiety and reduce unnecessary snacking.

Understanding Your Protein Needs

Dr. Sung breaks down the numbers clearly: "A 150-pound person needs at least 81.6 to 95.2 grams of protein per day for optimal health." For those with health challenges, he recommends increasing intake to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight, while athletes might need up to 2 grams per kilogram.

How to Check for Protein Deficiency

"Simple tests like CBC with CHE can show you if you have protein deficiencies," explains Dr. Sung. Key markers include BUN (should be 10-16), globulin (2.4-2.8), and hemoglobin levels. If you're experiencing any of the seven signs, consider asking your healthcare provider about these tests.

Solutions for Better Protein Absorption

Dr. Sung emphasizes that it's not just about eating more protein – it's about proper absorption too. "If you have hypochlorhydria or low stomach acid issues, you definitely want to increase hydrochloric acid along with some digestive enzymes to break down your protein appropriately," he advises. Consider protein-rich diets like ketogenic, paleo, or carefully planned vegetarian diets, depending on your specific needs and restrictions. He Recommends the 40-30-20 Method, First Starting Your Day with 40 Grams Protein

In another post, he touts the benefits of the 40-30-20 Method. “Start your day with 40g of protein. A breakfast smoothie with protein powder, berries, and almond milk or overnight oats with Greek yogurt and protein powder are great options,” he writes. According to clinical trials, consuming more protein than the recommended dietary allowance not only reduces body weight (BW) but also enhances body composition by decreasing fat mass while preserving fat-free mass (FFM) in both low-calorie and standard-calorie diets.

Next, Walk for 30 Minutes

“Walk for 30 minutes daily. Split it into two 15-minute sessions if needed. Walking boosts metabolism, reduces stress, and aids fat loss,” he says. A 2018 study published in the journal Obesity found a link between walking 10,000 steps a day and weight loss and weight management. Other studies published by the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) in JAMA Neurology and in JAMA Internal Medicine also linked walking 10,000 steps a day to less dementia and less cardiovascular disease overall, with less heart disease, less heart failure, and fewer strokes.

Finally, Lift Weights for 20 Minutes

“Dedicate 20 minutes to weightlifting 3-4 days a week,” he adds. According to the Mayo Clinic, strength and weight training help reduce body fat, preserve and increase lean muscle mass, and burn calories more efficiently. Strength training may also help you:

  • Develop strong bones
  • Manage your weight
  • Enhance your quality of life
  • Manage chronic conditions
  • Sharpen your thinking skills.
