What Prompted Clarkson To Try GLP-1 Medication

When speaking with Whoopi Goldberg during an episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Clarkson revealed she decided to try GLP-1 medication because her "blood work got so bad."

She added, "My doctor chased me for like two years, and I was like, 'No I'm afraid of it, I already have thyroid problems. Everyone thinks it's Ozempic—it's not. It's something else. But it's something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously my body doesn't do it right."

She Revamped Her Lifestyle

In 2024, the celeb revealed on her talk show that she was prediabetic. Two years after learning this news, Clarkson completely revamped her lifestyle.

"I wasn't shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight. … They were like, 'You're prediabetic. You're right on the borderline.' And I was like, 'But I'm not there yet,'" Clarkson said.

She Eats "A Healthy Mix"

Listening to her doctor proved to be imperative in Clarkson's wellness journey. As for her diet, she consumes a "healthy mix" and plenty of protein—an essential nutrient that promotes satiety.

"I eat a healthy mix. I dropped weight because I've been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn't. And 90 percent of the time I'm really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I'm a Texas girl, so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world," Clarkson told PEOPLE.

She Does Ingredient Swaps

In 2018, Clarkson said she changed up certain ingredients in her meals to make them healthier, according to Women's Health.

"It's the same stuff you eat—I just use different ingredients. Even like fried chicken, I use cassava flour, tapioca, or almond flour, and you use non-hormone chicken," she shared.

She Followed The Plant Paradox

The Plant Paradox by Dr. Steven Gundry helped Clarkson lose weight (via Women's Health). The methodology is all about following a lectin-free diet and cutting out certain foods like whole grains, beans, dairy, legumes, and certain vegetables.

"I literally read this book, and I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I'm not on medicine anymore because of this book. It's basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic…Literally, I haven't worked out at all," Clarkson told Extra.
