Do you want to boost your metabolism but aren't sure what to eat? You might have heard the term "superfood." While not recognized by the FDA, the term generally describes nutrient-dense foods that offer maximum nutritional benefits. Jamie Maitland, Certified Holistic Nutritionist, Elite Fitness Trainer, and Author of The 21 Day Reset Cookbook, reveals to Body Network that there is one you should be adding to your diet ASAP.

"Maca root powder is my nutrient-rich, metabolism-boosting—superfood of choice. This underrated root vegetable is known for its health benefits such as improved energy, hormone balance, and stamina and has been shown to enhance metabolic function," she tells Body Network.

Did you know that maca root is considered an adaptogen and a relative of the radish? "One of my favorite ways to enjoy this powerful adaptogen is simply by putting it in my morning coffee. It gives a bit of a nutty flavor and, in my personal opinion, is absolutely delicious," she says.

"Salad dressings are also an easy way to get this potent superfood into your diet. Here's an easy, delicious recipe you can incorporate into your meal routine," she says.

Maca Root is also a great addition to smoothies or protein shakes. "You can find an amazing cold brew coffee protein shake in The 21 Day Reset Cookbook," she says.

There are also products that already contain maca in them.
