From Struggling to Success: Louise's Story
"Throughout my whole life, I've always struggled with my weight," shares Louise, who noticed being bigger than other children as early as age six. At her heaviest, she weighed 269 pounds. "I always felt like the odd one out of a group of friends and with other girls," she recalls in her post. Her turning point came during a shopping trip: "I bought this outfit, the buttons kept popping open where my belly kept popping through it. That was the moment I thought, I'm not doing this anymore, I deserve to feel good about myself."
Breaking the Emotional Eating Cycle
Before her transformation, Louise's relationship with food was complicated. "When I was overweight, my relationship with food wasn't the best. I used food as a comfort and when I felt sad, I would eat. When I was happy, I would eat. When I was bored, I would eat," she explains. "Every time I would eat to make myself feel better. I would end up feeling worse after and then because I felt worse, I would eat again. I felt like it was a vicious cycle."
The Power of Tracking
Louise's journey began with understanding her food choices. "I started tracking calories and learning about foods and looking at nutrition labels and seeing what was better for me," she says. This education changed her perspective: "It taught me that a chocolate bar was not going to fill me up and it was like three, 400 calories. Whereas I could have a big bowl of oatmeal that will keep me full till lunchtime."
Morning Routine: Starting the Day Right
While Louise now sometimes skips breakfast, she's flexible with her morning routine. "I haven't actually been having breakfast for a few weeks now," she explains. When she does eat breakfast, she focuses on protein: "Today, I'm making protein oats. We have lots of fruits. I love my protein in the morning." This is a far cry from her past habits of "either a cup of tea with biscuits" or "four slices of toast with chocolate spread or peanut butter."
Smart Pre-Lunch Workout Strategy
Exercise is a key part of Louise's routine. "I've fallen back into my thing of training, focusing more on lower body," she shares. After her morning gym session focusing on back and biceps, plus 20 minutes of stair climbing, she opts for a quick protein hit. "These chicken breast fillets are really good protein snacks to have," she says, reaching for a 40-calorie portion that packs 8.4 grams of protein.
Power Through Lunch: The Wrap Strategy
Louise's lunch combines satisfaction with smart portions. "I'm loving wraps recently," she shares. Her creation includes two wraps (180 calories each) filled with breaded chicken strips, light mayonnaise, sriracha sauce, and crunchy lettuce. The total lunch comes to 754 calories, which she considers reasonable since she skipped breakfast.
Afternoon Energy: Strategic Snacking
Between meals, Louise maintains her protein intake with two more chicken breast fillets. She pairs this with sugar-free beverages, noting, "No added sugar tastes just as good and you're not drinking all the calories." This strategy helps her stay satisfied while managing her daily calorie goal.

Dinner Done Right: Balanced and Basic
For dinner, Louise keeps it simple with chicken chunks seasoned with Nando's sauce, accompanied by vegetables. "Nothing fancy as always. Keep it basic over here," she says. The dinner totals 747 calories, bringing her daily intake to just under 1,900 calories.
The Journey to Fitness
Louise's exercise journey started simply. "I literally just went to the gym, and I went on the treadmill. I did that for 20 minutes on an incline. I got a Fitbit to help track my steps," she recalls. Eight months into her journey, after losing 85 pounds, she decided to challenge herself further: "I wanted to start building muscle, so I started weightlifting. It's been the combination of weightlifting and just moving more that has helped me lose weight."
Steps and Movement Matter
Beyond structured exercise, Louise emphasizes daily movement. "I need to still get a bit of cleaning to do, but I've only got 5,000 steps so far," she shares. "I'm going to have to walk around the flat, get some hoovering done and mop because I need some more steps."

Celebrating Every Stage
Now weighing 145 pounds, Louise has lost a total of 124 pounds and is training for a bikini competition. "I'm excited. I'm nervous, but I'm excited at the same time," she shares. "Two years ago, the old me would never have dreamed that I would be doing this. I didn't even want to look at myself in the mirror, let alone stand on a stage in a bikini in front of strangers."
Planning for Success
Looking ahead, Louise emphasizes the importance of meal prep and trying new protein sources. "I'm going to meal prep rice, veg, and alternate between tuna steaks and salmon fillets," she explains. "I just always have chicken breasts, so I thought if I switch it up a bit, have a bit of fish, it just changes things up a bit."
Start Now, Not January
Louise's approach proves that weight loss doesn't require complicated meal plans or expensive ingredients. "We've literally got only eight weeks left until 2025," she reminds us. "If you start now you're going to get an eight week headstart over everyone else that's starting January first."

Advice for Others Starting Out
Louise emphasizes the importance of gradual change. "My advice to anyone who is going through their own weight loss transformation is not to be too hard on yourself. Start small. Don't try to change everything all at once because when you do that, it can be very overwhelming," she advises. "Just change one thing at a time, even if that is going for a 30-minute walk a day. As long as you are making gradual, small changes, just know that you are going to get to that goal. Just keep going. You can't fail if you'd never give up."
