Woman Lost 50 Pounds on the 5050 Diet and Never Felt Hungry

Here's how she lost it and keep it off.

Liz is a weight loss warrior who lost 48 pounds naturally by following Dr. John McDougall's meal plan, The Starch Solution. She regularly shares videos on her YouTube account discussing her weight loss and revealing the healthy habits that enabled her to drop weight fast on the whole food, plant-based diet. "Let's jump into what my day looks like around food and activity," she says in the clip.

She Starts the Day Off with Coffee

Liz gets her day started with a jolt of caffeine. "I like to start my mornings off pretty slow, having a cup of coffee. It's eight ounces with about a fourth cup of soy milk, and my machine froths my soy milk," she says in the post.

She Also Journals

Then, she makes time for a little self-care. "I like to get up right before the sunrise and watch it," she says. Then, she spends time setting intentions. "I journal, get ready for my day," she says.

She Walks 3 Miles

She exercises right after. "I love going for my morning walk. That is a non-negotiable that I always do every single morning. I at least get my three miles in with my animals," she says.

She Does Stuff Around the House

Next up, she does stuff around the house. "Today, I actually had quite a bit going on. I always get back from my walk, let the animals out, do my chores, and then I end up doing some house cleaning," she says.

She Bakes Sourdough Bread

"I also started to prepare some bread. I have some locals who enjoy my homemade sourdough bread, so I get a few orders a month, and so I needed to get into the kitchen and start working on some dough. So today I focused on the preparation of the dough, and so I have to do mini stretch and folds throughout the day, but it was important to take all my measurements for the dough and get it going in this beautiful bowl," she says.

First Meal

Her first meal? Hash browns. "I love these hash browns. They are organic, with no oil. I put them in the air fryer for about 20 minutes at 450 degrees and toss them halfway through. I sometimes add some ketchup on it if I'm thinking about it, but when I do cook them, I put a little bit of salt and nutritional yeast on them. So good. And in this case, I just steamed some carrots and some green beans, and this was a complete 50-50 meal," she says.

Second Meal

Her second meal "was so good, and it's actually been a standard of mine for the last few days, and I'm going to be eating it over and over again," she says. She explains that she takes lettuce, cucumbers, and carrots, cuts them to size, and tosses them with some coconut aminos and Dijon mustard. "And then I steamed some amazing potatoes in the Instant Pot for 16 minutes and did a natural release, added those to the top of the salad, diced them up a little bit and added some nutritional yeast and salt, and about two tablespoons of hummus or so. However much you want. This meal is amazing, and you should definitely try it out if you haven't before," she says.

What Is the 5050 Diet

What is the 5050 diet, anyway? "This approach emphasizes whole, natural starches like potatoes and rice, paired with non-starchy vegetables and fruits—eliminating heavily processed foods and oils," Liza explains on her website.

She even sells 5050 bowls on her website, which are equally divided up, "specifically for the Starch Solution diet," she says. They are "an efficient tool to eat your starches and veggies!"
