Do you want to eat your way to weight loss? According to Dr. Steven Gundry, MD, medical director at The International Heart and Lung Institute Center for Restorative Medicine and the New York Times best-seller The Plant Paradox and The Plant Paradox Cookbook, losing weight isn’t just about eating less, but about eating the right kind of superfoods. In one of his viral YouTube videos, he reveals the “top three foods for weight loss.”

Dr. Gundry Struggled to Love 70 Pounds, But These 3 Foods Helped

“Still struggling to lose weight, I get it. I was 70 pounds overweight for years, and no amount of exercise or healthy eating helped until I discovered that weight loss comes down to what you eat and what you don't eat,” Dr. Gundry reveals. “So today I'm sharing my top three foods you should be eating to help you shed the pounds and live your happiest, healthiest life.”

1. Prebiotic Rich Foods

“Number one, and I can't say this enough: Prebiotic rich foods,” Gundry reveals. “Now there's always some confusion about a probiotic, a prebiotic, and now a post-biotic.”

Probiotics Eat Prebiotics

“So real quick, probiotics are friendly bacteria, and probiotics have to eat something, and the foods that they have to eat are called prebiotics,” he says.

Polyphenols Are Great Prebiotics

“Now, most of us associate prebiotics with fiber, but a lot of prebiotics really aren't fibers. For instance, in my new book, unlocking the Keto Code, I introduced you to the fact that polyphenols, which are plant compounds that give plants their color, are actually prebiotics for the bacteria in our gut. And with each passing year, evidence is accumulating that these polyphenols may, in fact, be the most important part of prebiotics that we've neglected over fiber per se,” he says.

Gut Bacteria Then Makes Postbiotics

“Now, don't get me wrong, fiber that is edible by our gut bacteria is equally important because gut bacteria use fiber, use prebiotic fiber, and use prebiotics to make chemicals called postbiotics. And this is where it gets really confusing. Postbiotics simplistically are the byproducts of bacteria, probiotics, eating prebiotics, and these postbiotics are signaling compounds,” he continues.

A Calorie In Does Not Equal a Calorie Out, He Says

Calories Nutrition Food Exercise ConceptShutterstock

“Signaling compounds tell our mitochondria what to do, tell our genes what to do, tell our cells what to do. The exciting thing about these signaling molecules in terms of weight loss is they actually promote weight loss by having your mitochondria literally waste calories to do a caloric bypass on the food you eat. And that's actually exciting news because it means that a calorie in equals a calorie out is not true,” he says.

Prebiotics Will Help You Lose Weight

Female leg is stepping on white scales at homeShutterstock

“Many of the calories that you eat, which are prebiotics, whether they're fiber, whether they're polyphenols, will actually make you lose weight more than the amount of food that you are eating, which is really, really exciting,” he says.

He Says to Use More Spices

“The more fiber-rich foods you get in your diet, the more polyphenols you get in your diet by eating brightly dark colored vegetables by using spices. Spices are dense in polyphenols, and so anytime you can add fiber and polyphenols, you are going to have a weight loss benefit. You can use spices in everything,” he says.

Make Smoothies

“One of the easy ways to get these compounds into your diet is to make a smoothie. It's really easy to get fiber in smoothies, and it's tasty. Now, there are a lot of fiber supplements out there, but beware, a number of fiber supplements like Metamucil, for instance, are loaded with sugar or if they're low calorie or no sugar added, they use sucralose, which is Splenda or any of the other artificial sweeteners, which believe it or not, kill off your friendly bacteria,” he says.

Or Get Inulin Powder

“It's much easier to add fiber to your diet. One of the easiest fibers to add to your diet is inulin. And inulin is present as a powder. It has a slightly sweet taste. You can put it in your smoothies, or you can add it to your vegetables. There are inulin-rich vegetables, asparagus, Jerusalem artichokes, sometimes called sunchokes, and the chicory family, like radicchio and Belgian endive,” he says. “So the more of these sorts of vegetables you get in your diet, the easier it is to do this.”

2. Avocados

The second best food to add to your diet is avocados. “I can't say this enough. Do not be afraid of fat. Contrary to popular belief, eating an avocado a day does not make you fat. In fact, avocados do exactly the opposite,” Dr. Gundry says.

Avocados Help You Absorb Nutrients in Food

“Avocados help you absorb the nutrients in food. In fact, there's a very famous study of having people eat salads with and without avocado, and it was found that the addition of the avocado made people absorb the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals in that salad much better than if the avocado wasn't there in the first place,” he says.

They Are Also a Great Source of Monounsaturated Fat

“Avocados have great monounsaturated fat. It's called oleic acid. It's the same fat in olive oil. And avocados are rich in prebiotic fiber. And so these compounds actually help you lose weight,” he says.

Eat One a Day

How many should you eat a day? “Well, there is a human study that shows the addition of one avocado a day actually improved weight loss over not having the avocado a day. So what the heck? Have an avocado a day, have some guacamole,” he says.

“What can you substitute if you're sensitive to avocado? Well, we have a few people who do react to avocados. It's unusual, but it does happen. In that case, don't have an avocado. Instead, use other sources of fiber rather than an avocado,” he says.

3. MCT Rich Foods

“The number three thing that you should add to your diet to help you lose weight is MCT-rich foods,” he says. “Now, most people have heard of MCT oil, medium chain triglycerides. It's becoming easy to find Costco, even as MCT oil.”

Coconut Oil Does Not Have the Same Benefits

“Coconut oil does not have the same benefits as MCT oil,” he says. “Studies that I talk about in unlocking the Keto code Show that people who are asked to have MCT oil as part of their diet versus people who did not have MCT oil as part of their diet lost three to five kilograms of weight in six weeks just by adding MCT oil to their diet. And we're not talking about a lot. Probably three tablespoons a day will do it for most people.”

Goat and Sheep Products Also Have MCT Oil

“Now, the other great news is that MCT oil is present in goat and sheep products. So goat yogurt, sheep yogurt, goat kefir, sheep kefir, goat cheese, sheep cheese. 30% of the fats in these products are medium chain triglycerides,” he says.

If You Eat the Right Fats and Avoid Refined Carbs, You Will Lose Weight

Tired of diets that leave you hungry and miserable? You're not alone. The secret to sustainable weight loss isn't about starving yourself – it's about choosing the right foods that keep you satisfied while helping your body burn fat more efficiently.

Dr. Anthony Balduzzi, founder of The Fit Father Project and The Fit Mother Project, has helped over 30,000 families across 100 countries transform their health through smart food choices. With degrees from the University of Pennsylvania in Nutrition & Neuroscience and a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine, he's discovered that certain foods can actually help you lose weight while keeping you full. Let's count down his top 10 foods that can revolutionize your weight loss journey, starting with good and building up to the absolute best.

Raw Nuts and Seeds: Your Craving-Crushing Snack

"When you're 3:00 PM and you're starting to get hangry, nuts can be the savior there," Dr. Balduzzi shares. He recommends storing raw nuts in the freezer and explains they're "loaded with protein, loaded with healthy fats, loaded with fiber." This combination keeps you full and satisfied between meals.

Green-Tip Bananas: The Gut-Health Game Changer

"When you catch a banana when it's got a green tip, it is rich in resistant starch," Dr. Balduzzi explains. This special fiber feeds your gut bacteria, improving weight loss and keeping you satisfied longer. His tip: Keep bananas separated to maintain their green tips longer.

S-Fish: The Omega-3 Fat Burner

Wild salmon, sardines, and certain shellfish are excellent choices. "These healthy fats improve heart and brain health while supporting weight loss," Dr. Balduzzi says. He specifically recommends lower-mercury options rich in omega-3s for sustainable weight loss.

Avocado: The Blood Sugar Balancer

Eggs: The Breakfast of Champions

"If you're having a couple eggs for breakfast, I'd say anywhere from one to three, it can actually help your heart health because eggs are nutrient powerhouses," Dr. Balduzzi states. The combination of protein and nutrients helps prevent mid-morning hunger.

Organic Salad Greens: The Foundation for Lasting Fullness

Make these your go-to base for satisfying meals. Dr. Balduzzi prefers organic baby lettuces over spinach, noting, "You open this up, take your hand like a crane, stick it in, pull out a glob, drop it on your plate." He recommends topping with hemp seeds, olive oil, and protein for a filling meal that supports weight loss.

Chia Seeds: The Ultimate Appetite Controller

"When that gel gets into your stomach, it keeps you full longer. So these things are like a calorie hack," Dr. Balduzzi explains about chia seeds. Loaded with omega-3s, fiber, and protein, they're his top pick for natural appetite control and sustainable weight loss.

Remember, sustainable weight loss isn't about restrictive dieting – it's about choosing foods that work with your body, not against it. These ten foods provide the perfect foundation for a healthy, sustainable weight loss journey. Start incorporating them into your meals today, and experience the difference of losing weight without feeling hungry.

Grass-Fed Beef: The Satisfaction Solution

"Grass-fed meat is much lower in calories. You eat grass-fed meat for the year, you're going to save over 17,000 calories just because it's lower in fat," Dr. Balduzzi explains. It also contains CLA, which helps with weight loss, keeping you satisfied for hours.

Beans and Lentils: The Hunger-Fighting Fiber Champions

These plant-based proteins are weight loss champions. "Beans have an amazing kind of soluble fiber. It's one of the most reliable foods possible for lowering your cholesterol, helping your gut bacteria," Dr. Balduzzi explains in his post. He recommends pressure-cooked beans to reduce lectins and suggests incorporating them into chilies and traditional dishes.

In addition to offering an online fitness program with tailored workouts and diet plans focused on weight loss, he also shares a lot of videos on TikTok revealing his diet and fitness secrets. In one viral video, he reveals a simple diet plan that will help you lose weight fast. The Body Network also asked The Diet Diva, Tara Collingwood, MS, RDN, CSSD, LD/N, ACSM-CPT, a Board Certified Sports Dietitian, to weigh in on his diet.

Stick to Just Three Meals a Day

@betteryoubettersociety

What To Eat Daily For Fat Loss Breakfast: 1 Cup of egg whites with 2-3 regular eggs. Lunch: 6-10oz of chicken breast with 1.5 cups of mixed veggies. Dinner: 6-10oz of chicken breast, 1 cup of cooked rice & 8oz of broccoli. Snack: Fruit (eat it in moderation) Cheat Day Suggestion: Eat a strict breakfast and lunch. In the video, Sam recommends a few larger meals over lots of tiny ones. “I only want you to eat three meals a day,” he says.

RDN Says: Collingwood is “fine” with a three meal per day eating plan, “but I do think a snack or two can work for most people to prevent them from getting ravenously hungry between meals,” she says. “Snacking can be another good way to get nutrition from fruit, yogurt, nuts, or other nutritious foods.”

Meal One: Eggs with Egg Whites

Fresh chicken eggsShutterstock

For the first meal, “one cup of egg whites with three regular eggs,” he says. In the accompanying photo, he shows a plate of scrambled eggs.

RDN Says: “I love eggs and egg whites, but that is a lot of protein and it is not balanced with any other foods,” Collingwood points out. “Three egg yolks (whole eggs) is a lot of saturated fat and cholesterol on a daily basis.” She recommends following the American Heart Association guidelines of one whole egg (yolk) per day on average. “If you want a three egg omelet one day then have something else for a few days to average about seven whole eggs per week,” she suggests. “Egg whites are pretty much just fat free protein, so those I don’t really limit. However, I do encourage a balance of nutrients at meals.” She suggests eating less of the eggs, but adding in some veggies to the scramble and a piece or two of whole grain toast for some nutritious carbs and fiber. “Or you could add some potatoes in with the eggs for carbs,” she says.

Meal Two: Chicken and Veggies

Marinated grilled healthy chicken breasts cooked on a summer BBQ and served with fresh herbs and lemon juice on a wooden board, close up viewShutterstock

The second meal he recommends is “seven ounces of chicken breast with a cup and a half of mixed vegetables.” He shows his chicken breast with frozen mixed veggies, which appear to be steamed.

RDN Says: Again, there aren’t any carbs at all and a lot of protein, says Collingwood. “Chicken breast is a wonderfully nutritious, low calorie food, but it isn’t necessary to eat seven ounces in one sitting. I would prefer four to five ounces and maybe add some quinoa for some high quality carbs. Love the mixed veggies!”

Meal Three: Chicken with Rice and Broccoli

Healthy Homemade Chicken Breast and Rice with BroccoliShutterstock

And for dinner, “eight ounces of chicken breasts, one cup of rice cooked, eight ounces of broccoli,” he says.

RDN Says: Drop it down to five to six ounces of chicken and you’ve got a nice balanced meal, says Collingwood. “Choose brown rice or a different whole grain like the quinoa, barley, or whole grain pasta to provide some variety instead of white rice all the time,” she adds.

Snack: Fruits

Fresh,Fruits,Nutrition,health,food.Shutterstock

In addition to the three meals, his plan does allow for some in-between treats. “For your snack you can eat fruit,” he says. “You can kind of eat as much fruit as you want, just don't overdo it.”

RDN Says: Collingwood agrees that fruit is excellent, “especially if you are getting berries with seeds or other fruits with skin like apple, pear, peach, etc.,” she says. “I am not sure what ‘don’t overdo it’ means, but I hesitate to say as much as you want because some people may take that too far. I recommend two to four servings of fruit per day.”

It Will “Make You Lose Body Fat Pretty Quickly”

Samuel_Emmanuel_Dickerson_Jr3samuelemmanueldickersonjr/Instagram

“A diet like that will make you lose body fat pretty quickly,” Sam says. “So now you follow that strict diet until you get to your goal. And then once you get to your goal, you can swap out, let's say the dinner for the food your mom makes, or you can swap out your dinner for eating out at a restaurant. Just don't overdo it.”

What the Dietitian Thinks

tara_collingwooddietdivatara/Instagram

Collingwood’s final thoughts? “If you follow too strict of a diet you will likely lose a good proportion of muscle in the total weight lost,” she says. “If you want to lose mostly fat, slow down the weight loss and make it a sustainable lifestyle instead of a ‘diet’ you go on and off. You can definitely include restaurant food and other favorites as long as you watch total portions.”

💪🔥Body Booster: While you might lose weight fast on a strict diet, it will be harder to keep the weight off than if you lose weight via a less aggressive method that is less of a diet and more of a lifestyle shift.

Is losing weight fast unhealthy? Not according to endocrinologist Ken Fujioka, MD, who says speedy weight loss is nothing to worry about. “We used to think it was bad and it turns out it doesn't matter—just lose the weight,” he says. Shedding even a few pounds is beneficial for health, experts say. “Even losing a modest amount – just 5-10 percent of your total body weight – can result in almost immediate health benefits and reduce your risk for a wide variety of health conditions and diseases,” says University Hospitals. “In fact, almost every aspect of your health improves when you lose weight.” Here are Dr. Fujioka’s top tips for losing weight fast, and keeping it off.

Restrict Calories

Dr. Fujioka’s first tip for speedy weight loss is to restrict calories. Weight loss comes down to burning off more calories than you’re taking in. “No matter what type of diet you follow, to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you take in each day,” says MedLine Plus. “For most people who are overweight, cutting about 500 calories a day is a good place to start. If you can eat 500 fewer calories every day, you should lose about a pound (450 g) a week.”

Exercise

Dr. Fujioka says exercise is beneficial if speedy weight loss is the goal. “Being active is vital to losing weight and keeping it off,” says the Mayo Clinic. “When active, the body uses more energy in the form of calories. And burning more calories than you take in leads to weight loss.”

intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting, health care asian young woman dietary, having stomach ache, temptation hungry of breakfast food in morning on table at home, looking at watch on her wrist but not yet time to eatShutterstock

Dr. Fujioka recommends intermittent fasting—at least 16 hours a day of fasting, and allowing an eight hour window for eating. “When your body doesn’t have the glucose it needs for energy, it taps into your body’s fat for energy,” according to Family Doctor. “When this happens, the fatty acids in your body are absorbed into your blood. They produce a chemical called ketones. Your body then uses the ketones as its energy source. This is called a metabolic switch. Your body is switching from glucose to ketones. When your body uses ketones instead of fat, you may lose weight. But, behind the scenes, the ketones also may be having a positive effect on your body’s organs and cells.”

Use Protein Shakes/Bars

Dr. Fujioka recommends using protein bars and shakes for smaller meals, and eating one normal meal a day. “If you find yourself yo-yo dieting, or losing and then regaining weight, getting more protein into your diet may reduce the amount of weight you regain in the future,” Frances Largeman-Roth, RDN tells TODAY. “So, it's fair to say that protein shakes may help with weight loss by increasing your protein shake.”

Use a Scale

Dr. Fujioka says people who weigh themselves every day are more likely to lose weight and keep it off than people who don’t. "Our philosophy here is that no one size fits all," dietitian, nutritionist and wellness coach Meridan Zerner tells the American Heart Association. "The majority of research would say weigh daily. But if there's any negative fallout from weighing every day in terms of outlook, self-esteem or your positive momentum, I would say we can check in once or twice a week."

Get Enough Sleep

Dr. Fujioka stresses how important sleep is for weight loss and overall health, something echoed by many other medical professionals. “It’s also important to note that getting 7-8 hours of good, quality sleep each night can help reduce weight,” says Babak Moini, MD, internal medicine specialist at University Hospitals. “Too little sleep, coupled with stress, causes the body to release cortisol – a potent steroid that raises your blood pressure and blood sugar and causes weight gain.”

Eat Whole Foods

Salmon,Served,With,Mix,Salad,Veggies,VegetablesShutterstock

Dr. Fujioka recommends eating foods in their whole form rather than juicing or taking a pill. “Whole plant foods contain the extracts in addition to other vital nutrients that are lost with juicing,” according to Kendall Reagan Nutrition Center. “Plant foods contain different varieties of phytonutrients and antioxidants that protect our bodies against inflammation and disease. For these reasons, it is recommended to include a variety of whole plant foods in meals and snacks to expose your body to a wide spectrum of health-promoting nutrients.”

Avoid Processed Foods

Avoid ultra-processed foods, Dr. Fujioka stresses. “According to research, a high intake of processed and fast foods has been linked to overeating,” Rebecca Crumb-Johnson, MA, RD, CDCES, tells Northlakes Community Clinic. “Whole food doesn’t contain the sugars. salt and flavorings added to processed foods which can lead to eating more food than is needed.”

Eat Your Vegetables

Dr. Fujioka recommends eating a variety of vegetables. “Almost all vegetables really are quite good,” he says. “Beans, peas, corn. They’re fine! But also jicama, celery, tomatoes. All that stuff is good to eat.”

Eat Lean Proteins

Dr. Fujioka emphasizes the importance of lean proteins for weight loss and health. “Protein is the building block for your organs, bones, muscles and hair,” family medicine physician Dr. Sharon Browning tells Atrium Health. “When you have a strong foundation with protein, you have a healthy foundation for your body and life.” And if you enjoyed this article, take advantage of these 15 Quick Ways to Lose Body Fat Percentage in a Week.

Are you trying to lose weight, but everything you read about weight loss just seems too complicated? According to one doctor, getting in shape and burning fat doesn’t have to be hard or involve taking any drastic measures, including going on crash diets or exercising until you drop. Brandon Fadner, MD, is a bariatric expert and gastric bypass surgeon from St. Luke’s Health in Texas. In a viral YouTube video, he breaks down weight loss into a few simple and easy tips.

These 4 Tips Will Help You Lose Weight the “Health” and “Sustainable” Way

Dr. Fadner explains that weight loss all comes down to a few “simple things that patients can do every day.” The following tips help “support healthy, sustainable weight loss,” he adds. “I tell all my patients this because I get this question a lot, whether it's a New Year's resolution or not. And that's start with these simple things.”

1. Stick to Minimally Processed Food

The first tip has to do with your diet. “Whatever you put in your body, make sure that it's as minimally as processed as possible,” he says. “A simple way to conceptualize this is to avoid the centers of grocery stores. That tends to be where the boxed-up processed products are that are going to last longer in a bag or a box.”

Shop the Outside Aisles at the Grocery Store

An easy way to do this? “If you stick to the periphery of the grocery store, that's where you're going to find your fresh fruits and vegetables. That's where if you choose to eat meat, you're gonna find your fresh poultry. You're gonna find your fresh beef, your fresh fish, and things like that,” he says.

2. Don’t Drink Your Calories

,Woman,Drinking,Ice,Cola,In,The,Glass.food,And,Beverage,soft drink,coke,pepsiShutterstock

“The second thing I tell people, and this is easy to apply, is to not drink your calories. So what does that mean? Things like cokes, soft drinks, and a lot of even sports drinks are full of sugar that you, quite frankly, just don't need. And our pancreas doesn't really like it when we get calories in bulk liquid form,” he says.

Instead Drink Water, Unsweetened Ice Tea and Black Coffee

“Ideally, what you drink every day is gonna be water, unsweetened iced tea, and black coffee. Of course, allowing for living a little bit here and there. It's simply saying that the majority of what I drink is gonna be not calorie-dense. It's gonna be water, black coffee, unsweetened iced tea.”

3. Balance Your Plate

“Next thing I tell my patients to balance out their plate in the following way. The vast majority of what you put in your body should be plants and vegetables. If you want to eat meat, that is wonderful. There are ways to go about it,” he says.

Eat More Fruits and Veggies Than Meat

Fruit,Market,Fresh,Fruits,Vegetables,market,farmers,farm,Shutterstock

“For whatever reason, our typical American diet here, we've kind of got it flipped. We put our meat and our main course as the biggest portion on our plate when actually the healthiest thing, the best thing for us and a way to begin to lose weight and sustain that weight is to bulk up on fresh fiber and the fresh nutrients that come out of leafy greens and fruits as well.”

4. Devote 30 Minutes Per Day to Movement

“Finally, find 30 minutes a day to be physically active. Turn it into a mental health exercise as well. It's your time for a time out from the stresses of your job, from the demands of family and other things that tend to pull us away from our self-care activities during our daily lives,” he recommends. “I think that most people when they really put themselves to this task, they can find that they've got 30 extra minutes to go just walk around the block. We're not talking about doing CrossFit, not yet, but get out there, walk around the block, take a time out for yourself, come back and you'd be surprised at how simply moving for 30 minutes a day is gonna begin to actually bury your results.”

And, “Kick It Up From There”

Beautiful fit woman in good shape jogging alone on city bridge.Shutterstock

“Of course, kick it up from there, right? That 30-minute activity may start with a walk around the block. Turn into a jog around the block that turns into you completing your first 5K. But take it in stride, take it in steps, and these are some of the really easy ways to start achieving some of your weight loss goals,” he concludes. Looking to manage your weight but can't get your hands on Ozempic or Wegovy? You're not alone. With waitlists growing and prices soaring, many are searching for alternatives. Celebrity Chef Zigga, a Certified Nutritionist, recently shared some game-changing information on FOX 29 - many everyday foods naturally contain or stimulate GLP-1, the same hormone that makes these medications effective. "Right now only Wegovy is approved for chronic weight management. Ozempic is supposed to be used by type 2 diabetics only," explains Chef Zigga, who then revealed that "GLP-1 is in a lot of food." Read on to discover which kitchen staples might help you feel fuller longer without needing a prescription.

1. Omega-3 Rich Salmon

Salmon stands out as a top natural source of GLP-1-stimulating nutrients. "GLP-1 is basically food that have a lot of fatty acids, so omega-3s," Chef Zigga explains while presenting a salmon dish during the segment. This fatty fish provides high-quality protein along with those essential omega-3s that can help regulate appetite and slow digestion. Chef Zigga specifically highlights salmon when discussing foods with "more fats, more omega-3s" that support the body's natural GLP-1 production.

2. Creamy Avocados

Avocados earn their place on this list thanks to their healthy fat content that supports natural GLP-1 production. Chef Zigga specifically mentions avocados when discussing foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, noting, "If you're looking for something with more fats, more omega-3s, then you have salmon, then you have stuff like avocado." These versatile fruits provide the satisfying fats that help trigger hormones that regulate appetite and digestion, similar to how Ozempic works in the body.

3. Surprising Brussels Sprouts

Don't underestimate these little green powerhouses! "Brussels sprouts actually have more omega-3s than avocado does," Chef Zigga reveals during the segment, highlighting their impressive nutritional profile. These cruciferous vegetables not only contain unexpected levels of omega-3s but are also packed with fiber that helps slow digestion and prolong feelings of fullness. Chef Zigga specifically included brussels sprouts under the salmon in their demonstration, creating a GLP-1 boosting power plate.

White fish varieties deserve space on your plate when looking for natural GLP-1 supporters. These lighter fish options provide lean protein that helps trigger satiety signals while offering healthy fats that support hormone production. They're versatile enough to prepare in countless ways, making them an easy addition to your meal rotation.

7. Lean Chicken

Small but mighty, this seed trio packs a powerful GLP-1-supporting punch. Chef Zigga showcases what they call "Trilogy" - a combination of flaxseeds, hemp, and chia seeds. "Flaxseeds for every tablespoon is 1.6 grams of omega fatty acids, but then it's very high in fiber. Hemp is for every tablespoon is a thousand milligrams of exactly a fiber also, and then as well as the chia seeds," they explain. These tiny powerhouses deliver concentrated doses of the same omega-3s and fiber that help GLP-1 medications work.

These Foods Will “Help You Stay Fuller Longer”

While medications like Wegovy and Ozempic have proven effective for weight management, Chef Zigga demonstrates that many everyday foods naturally contain or stimulate the same GLP-1 hormones that make these drugs work. As they explain, these foods "help you stay fuller longer" and "activate your GLP-1 secretions" - the same mechanisms behind prescription weight loss medications. By incorporating omega-3 rich fish, lean proteins, fiber-filled vegetables, and strategic seeds into your diet, you may be able to naturally boost your body's GLP-1 production. As always, consult with your healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet or stopping any prescribed medications. Have you been struggling to lose weight most of your life? Even though it may seem impossible, especially if you have over 100 pounds to lose, seeking inspiration from other people’s stories and learning what worked for them can be the push you need. Lindsey Subrinsky, owner of Shot Bar MedSpa in Chicago, Illinois, struggled with her weight for most of her life – until she made some life-changing choices that helped her lose 140 pounds and keep it off. She recently told her story to Body Network, and it’s very inspiring.

Her Mom Took Her to Weight Watchers When She Was 10

Lindsey’s mother took her to her first Weight Watchers meeting in 1993 when she was just 10 years old. “It was a group just for kids, and the rooms were always full of parents who feared their child would be fat. That was my first forced experience by my mom to lose weight,” she recalls. “I knew I was successful at losing the 10 pounds I was asked to lose when my mom gave me the approval of two thighs that no longer touched. I had no idea how this was going to shape my life, and neither did my mom who believed she was doing the right thing after struggling with her weight in her youth.”

The next few years would be brutal. “In the 7th grade, I was forced once again to try a liquid diet program by an MD who thought that was healthy,” she says. For days on end, she would only drink protein shakes while her little brother ate mac and cheese and Doritos. “One year, I got two clementines for my birthday with candles in the middle instead of cake. I know now, as an adult, that my mom believed she was doing the right thing for me. It's taken a lot of therapy and self-healing to forgive, but I know she was well-intentioned.

She Hit Bottom at 272 Pounds

Fast forward to the year 2018. “I had lost an immense amount of pounds over the years and would gain them right back, 50 off, 75 on. Fad diets, starvation diets, phentermine diets, you name it, I tried it. What is the feeling beyond hopeless? Whatever that word is could have described how I felt when I stepped on the scale to see 272 pounds one morning after the inability to roll over in bed one evening without losing my breath. That morning was the last time I’d ever see that number,” she says.

She took a science-based approach to weight loss. “I am a medical professional who believes in science and data to influence decisions. I took my knowledge and decided to make some changes that launched me to a 100lb weight loss in less than 10 months. I needed graphs and to notate linear changes.”

She Also Used a Smart Scale, Food Tracking Apps, and Activity Tracker

“I bought a smart scale, downloaded a food tracking app (that I still use to this day and request my weight loss patients do the same), got an Apple Watch to track health data, and a food scale,” she tells us. “It became a mission of knowledge. I began to weigh all of my food and stay within a certain macronutrient range that I learned how to calculate. I liked weighing everything because I believe knowledge is power. It took the guess and check out of the equation.”

She Followed a Low-Carb Diet Then Keto-Style

She started with a primarily lower-carb diet and transitioned to a keto-style diet later on “so I had room for change as the pounds began to fall off,” she says. “This journey was all about changing my relationship with food, and learning to say no to myself. It became a game and I was going to win this time.”

Jump to 2024. “I have kept off a 140-lb weight loss since 2019,” she says, revealing that she lost her last 15 lbs with a GLP-1 in 2022. “My habits have remained the same.

She Weighs Herself Daily

“I know some weight loss ‘experts’ will balk at what I am about to say, but I weigh myself daily. It keeps me self-aware, and I believe that knowing these numbers dictates my behavior. I have rules about what the numbers mean throughout the week and around my cycle, and I have learned that one bad night of eating will not completely derail my success. It’s just the opposite.”

She Also Takes a Day Off Every Few Weeks

This leads to another piece of advice she has for anyone trying to lose and/or maintain. “Take a day off every couple of weeks,” she suggests. “Your body is a machine that gets used to whatever you do every day. Have a day that, if you are craving something, enjoy it without feeling guilty. We are humans who also have to ‘live.” Occasionally, one ice cream cone and a couple of pieces of pizza are okay.”

She gets asked a lot about her fitness routine. “Truth is, I did not exercise for a single moment during 2018-2019,” she confesses. “I bought a Peloton early in 2020, right before the pandemic, and started a fitness routine then. My reasoning for that was I was always a perfectionist who crashed and burned and tried to do too much and change too much at one time.”

“This part of my story was about learning to say no to myself. It is still something that I work on every single day, as food was my reward and emotional outlet. Not using food for comfort has become easier, but it is still often my first instinct. I have just trained my mental muscle to know that I am stronger than my thoughts and I hate food remorse.
